well, do it again but this time let it run again and then check it just to be sure.

yeah it was done cold. car was not running before we did the test. and it sat there for a week before yesterday. could it really be that low from just sitting there that long?

the car also has been sitting for a year and maybe only have about 200 miles on it since getting it running.

GoodfellaFD3S 07-05-12 09:58 AM

Ouch, those numbers were cold? A hot engine (which is the way it should be done) typically yields 5-10 psi lower.

I don't think those numbers are from sitting. Who built the engine and how old is it?

Honestly, I don't think I'd tune if those compression numbers are correct. Not much to gain (ie low power) and lots to lose.

Rich, yeah the numbers were cold as we couldn't get the car out of the garage to start it up.

Motor was street ported by Pettit racing (from what the guy I bought it from told me) The guy said he only used it about 3k. then it sat there for months. I got it, sat for another few months. put it in ran it with twins but with massive boost leaks. turbos started to leak bad. Ripped it apart for the single set up and has been sitting for about a year and since we got it fired up it probably put about 200 miles on it. street tuned it to like 2psi so I can get around. (never tested the compression before the other day though so for all I know the motor might have been squatted out from the start)

Well, I at this point, I do not have the money for a new motor or a rebuild, I am hoping I can tune it with this compression at least to some drivability. I am going to assume the risk is blowing the motor on the tune and breaking the turbo along with it! its either that or have a car sitting there that I can't drive. don't know. :(

GoodfellaFD3S 07-05-12 10:58 AM

Were the pulses even? What kind of compression tester? Did you have the throttle completely open while testing?

fiz-e 07-05-12 11:12 PM

Rich, not 100% sure, Jason was the one under the car but I am sure the tester was a basic tester. We will see what happens tomorrow! They will do a test there once we get there and see where we go from there.

moneymaker42141983 07-06-12 07:03 AM

Well I agree with goodfella man. It can be a lot to lose but, If it was me I would just let it run for hour or two. Then check the numbers again. Then do the test again. If the numbers are good after that, Let it cool down. Come out the the next day and do it again and see if they match.
The one thing I live by is never buy a used rotary engine. You never know if the guy is telling the truth or If he just doesn't know what he was doing with his car. I've heard all the excuses in the world man. Now if there is something wrong with it. Go and get your self a factory shop manual and buy the Pineapple racing rebuild DVD. Its not as hard as you would think. Do it all by the book and check everything twice and you will do a great job on it.

MOBEONER 07-07-12 08:45 AM

Car is fine, numbers when up and it's running strong!!

moneymaker42141983 07-07-12 11:06 AM

Good. After letting it run right. Some times the seals will stick a bit when the engine has sat for along time. Even more so if you haven't really broken it in yet. What are the numbers at now?

When we got to speed1 the compression came out to 93 in the rear and only about 75 in the front, but the pulses on the front was not even so the corner seal might not be 100% or it might still be a little stuck from the long sit...

Did not get to push the car to what I wanted, but happy its running and feels great! :icon_tup:

fiz-e 07-07-12 12:32 PM

considering I thought my motor was done, yesterdays dyno tune was great. did not want to push the car to much and ended up at 350hp at 12psi. not bad for pump gas with no meth or anything.

RENESISFD 07-07-12 12:41 PM

Glad to hear it is working out ok for you. Now to think; if you got off of your ass and installed the meth injection:scratch: what would it have put down?

That's not bad can't imagine how much you would get with meth. What you think you would be pushing?

fiz-e 07-07-12 09:59 PM

well the reason I did not install the meth was because I thought the motor was not good and would not hold anything and would not have been pushing any numbers that need it.

What it could have done. I don't know. I would imaging at least another 100hp if I was pushing full boost and meth. but one can hope! but I am happy for now! so can't complain!

Sorry i might have missed this .....what size injectors are you running currently with your setup?

hey man, running 1680's and 860's. with this tune and #'s I am only pushing the injectors at like 70% at most (but haven't really looked at it while driving yet as was trying to enjoy the car a little)

Yeah man, I had faith, but you know, people start telling you the motor is bad and dont bother you start to wonder. I am now finally after 3 years, enjoying the car a little. which is cool.

HA yeah well its faster than it was... and Um, if I recall correctly you put your car on the dyno that day too. wonder what numbers you pulled

fiz-e 07-14-12 01:39 AM

tuned the car last friday and only drove it once since then... ugh the joys of being busy at work... but got it out last sunday to a small audi meet. me, mobeoner and speedNYC

Hope I can start to enjoy the car more since I actually can now!

fiz-e 08-17-12 12:54 AM

getting ready for Rotor fest this sunday! Car has been in my friends shop to fix my oil leak I was having (for a long time now) turns out my motor mount bolt issue was larger than expected, hope to have it figured out by tomorrow so I can get it all closed up.

Just need to figure out what size those damn bolts are and get them a little bit longer... Which I know will be a bitch to find locally!

But I hope it can get resolved and Hope I can do a few passes at Rotor fest!

fiz-e 08-21-12 01:28 AM

had quite a few people in our caravan to rotor fest. left a little later then expected... but we rolled about 11 cars deep.

sure it, its a local friend of ours here Phil's... car looks and sounds great, and not a surprise he won best 3rd gen in the car show.

Thanks on the compliment, car does look good and ran OK, but could have done a lot better.

Was a shame not to see your car out there, Sure you would have took home a prize.

fiz-e 08-21-12 10:52 PM

here are the videos from me racing the car at the track. This was my first time taking the car on the track as well as the first time being on the track. My goal was to drive the car there, run a good time, and drive the car home... Two out of three is not bad. lol

fiz-e 09-25-12 12:10 AM

getting ready for the carlisi meet this saturday. as always the car is not ready. got the wastegate at home to take it apart and tighten it up, sitting a little loose. Hoping that is part of my exhaust leak problem I am having after rotorfest. but I am sure something else is broke. lets see what else comes up before saturday.

yeah man, can't wait. always love the carlisi meet. was working on getting the car back together today so will be coming down in the FD (unlike jason and his slacking ass :icon_tdow )

GoodfellaFD3S 09-27-12 08:19 PM

Ah, Jason isn't bringing his whip? That's what he gets for ripping his car apart based on weird noises :D

He would if he could... My car was making a weird noise so I took it apart, but its back together (probably with the noise, lol) his is apart because he broke his rear end at rotorfest so its still getting rebuilt. but yeah thats what he gets. :icon_tdow

josh95mx 09-28-12 11:41 AM

had a great time this past weekend at the chris carlisi meet, always great to see everyone and to support a great cause, thank you to all the people who make it possible, I know it ain't easy.

Was not fun waking up at 5am to go finish the car up since it was still on jack stands to hit the road at 6:30 for a long 3 hour ride to the event. :(

Also, won A LOT of goodies in the raffle! :icon_tup:

decided to get the braces I got at the carlisi meet onto the car!
Attachment 693125

Differential brace went on on, hope this helps out when I get to the track and maybe try to launch the car.
Attachment 693126

Also put on the transmission brace on. I know this helps, but man does it increase the vibration of the car a lot! and it does not help that I have a transmission issue where it shakes and makes noise, (guessing its the throw out bearing or something since it stops when the clutch is engaged)
Attachment 693127

Then after not seeing my car since the carlisi meet, figured I give her a nice wash and get her ready for this darn hurricane here. figured if its gonna be bad I can have the car looking good and with reduced wheel hop when I need to gun it. lol :icon_tup:

GoodfellaFD3S 10-29-12 12:50 AM

Good to see those parts put to good use, D

Be careful with the t/o bearing noise.... I've seen a case where the owner ignored it for too long and the bearing came apart, leading to a much more expensive fix than just replacing the bearing.

Thanks man,

yeah glad to be able to use it and hopefully can hit the track in two weeks with the car for some fun.

Well, I am not 100% sure its the bearing... That is my guess... It makes a noise while driving and stops when clutch is pushed down, I though it had something to do with my slave cylinder at first. Had a problem with it at first since it broke and we fixed it. Might just need to be completely replaced. (sometimes the clutch wont engage if I F around to much. then I got to pump it and it starts working) rarely happens, but it does.

Hope this winter I can do a little clean up on the car and fix all those small things.

man been a while since I really did anything on the car... main reason for that is that I was moving... Now I am a long Island boy. and the perks of that. is I have my own garage and can do what ever the hell I want and do not need to pay rent for a space anymore.

Car sleeping happily in its new home
Attachment 687398

Garage is a big mess, just moved everything from the old location to the house but finally starting to build some shelving
Attachment 687399

and found a place to store all my carbon fiber parts and bumper that should have been on the car over a year ago
Attachment 687400

Took her out for a little bit got gas scared the neighbors put some premix fuel into the air.

that is all

damn, well I Decide to take the car out today to a big meet out in long island. did not get too far. about 2 blocks (if even) before I lost pressure in the clutch pedal and was not able to get the car in gear. =( had to walk back home leave the car in the street and then get some help to push it home.

now time to start pulling it apart to see what happened. I have been having large throwout bearing noises but I think the culprit might be slave cylinder, it poped out when installed and never thing it got back to 100%

here is the nice mess I leaked onto the floor:

vrx8 12-28-12 11:18 AM

Same happened to me and It was the clutch line. It blew up and had to call a tow truck. You can get stainless braided line fairly cheap that will be the first and last one you buy lol. I also replace all the clutch hydraulics while I was in there.

Yeah, I already have a stainless line, the day I got the car and brought it home it broke and had to change it out on the street. lol. but yeah now I need to take it apart and will change what needs to get done, funny thing is I had the car out the other day and was ripping it up all fine. i take it out to cruise and it breaks. ahhh the life of a rx7 owner. :(

fiz-e 12-31-12 11:40 AM

Trying to figure out what to do with the rx7! with the fact that the car is now down for the winter, I need to figure out what I want to do with the car.

I am not sure if I want make the car more of a track car or more of a nice looking street car. Problem is if I make it a nice street car I probably wont track it because I wont want to risk damaging the car. and if I focus more on the motor and performance then I wont have money to make the car look nice.

Would love to have a good looking car that I can track, but if I plan on getting feed fenders, not sure how practical it would be on the drag strip!

I already have a bit of parts to put on the car, but just am in a mental bind with the car because I don't know what is the best place to go with the car and not break the bank!

Thats what I was leaning to aswell, because I have a lot of the body parts already, i just have been having a itch to hit the track, but maybe thats for another time and another car!
