dude you lost me the stechs... lol And thanks for being ready and able to jump in and help. thanks to everyone, love the help the rotary community provides each other. |
So the other weekend I go ahead and start putting the set up in and ran into a major problem, The HKS manifold sits so low that the turbo would not fit... not even close... it was hitting the LIM and the frame... and sat too low for my liking in the engine bay.
http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/a...627_201334.jpg After a a stress filled night of wondering what I will do I started a WTB thread to look for a manifold that might fit... only one I knew fit was a T88 manifold thanks to SpeedNYC since he ran this turbo a while back. but no luck with anything local and affordable. luckily mobeoner has a collection of crap laying around so I picked one off the floor that we had and the fitment is a 100% better... http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/a...702_122247.jpg Still need to shave the compressor housing a little bit so there is more than a mm of space from the frame, but it fits in! http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/a...702_163321.jpg http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/a...702_163305.jpg |
those sides with the oem front lip just doesn't flow thought about changing one or the other?

if you need a hand im game:icon_tup: (if im free and my car is done lol) Sure a lower car looks better, and a lower c.g. would help handling. But overall, will lowering the car have a negative effect on handling? Would it be slower on a road course or autocross. I don't want a bouncy 'slammed' ride like some low riders. I still want the best handling I can muster. Thanks. JyRO |

tell me about it... I have some body parts at home, just haven't put them on... I wanna do a whole kit and rims and all... but I would shoot my self if I do all that and my motor blows or wont run right with the new set up... car needs to survive at least 4 passes at the track before I consider any more body, I don't even care about the scratches and stuff on there. need it to run right!

While being frustrated with all the issues on putting in the turbo I figured I would do something that has to go smoothly... So I decided to put on my custom plates that came in... Even had issues with that with the screws going on lol. but it got on.
http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/a...702_165133.jpg |
So after finally getting the turbo on the problems as always continue. small issue is the downpipe is not 100% aligning up with exhaust... then again, right now my exhaust is just laying on the braces under the car... and only i think one bracket is holding it up. so small issue... but easily fixed if I need to cut and extend.
http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/a...702_163109.jpg Larger issue is the fact that the waste gate does not fit now! which sucks balls... The downpipe is so close to flange there is no way it is fitting on there now. Trying to think of my options... 1- is to try to raise the turbo using a T4 Flange so the DP sits higher. but I don't think it will still clear. 2- make a v-band bend for the wastegate. like a 45degree bend extension to get it to clear the pipe. (will be pricey to make with v-bands and clamps) 3- chop the DP at the top and extend it like 2 inches. so the pipe goes closer to the wall then the manifold/flange! (thinking this might be the cheapest route) http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/a...702_163100.jpg http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/a...702_163052.jpg |
Damn dude! That sucks. At least the license plate fits up right! :D

I guess I need to figure out where to put the bung for the wideband... I can make a extension pipe to match up to the midpipe with that on it so I can kill two birds with one stone!
|
It's all good gee, we can fab all that stuff, we gotta keep muibubbles on stand by I heard he can fabricate his ass off :)
Give him a welder and he can build the empire state building. LoL |
^^^ LMFAO from who? my welds are UGLY. thats why i usually grind them off ahahah im pretty good at brackets but thats all ahaha but i mostly work with 20gauge so its super easy to burn though and a PITA... when i weld thicker metals im okay... ;)
|
been on vacation for a week in Florida! can't wait to get back at the car! too bad it won't be till the weekend most likely! just need to hope that when I chop up the down pipe it will clear the wastegate!
|
Went by the garage to pick up some stuff, getting my mind set back on the car... Car is just waiting to get wrapped up. but I do love the turbo sitting in there once I open the hood! lol

Things are taking longer than expected and I can only work on it on the weekends, and that's if my weekends are free (and they haven't been) Let alone the time it will take to get a appointment to tune! |
what NEEDS to be done? ive skipped a lot of stuff i wanted to do in order to actually get to drive the car.. its gonna be more work down the road but ill have seat time to satisfy my thirst for sometime.......
just cant pop my engine bay! lol..... |

just cant pop my engine bay! lol..... Then I need to get all the fittings and lines to hook up the turbo! Then I need to install the whole fuel system, from the injectors to the new lines to the tank as well as rewiring and installing the new fuel pump! Then I need to install the Wideband and the new boost controller! Oh and I also forgot, since I have everything off I need to properly place my radiator in there and not have it just sitting there on the old brackets because the blades are hitting my oil lines so I tied those back to clear for now... and I need to weld on the new wastegate... I think after that I can put the UIM back on and get it started. lol. so yeah I got a little bit to go, and I bet I am forgetting something here. one day I will be done. haha |
haha u dont NEED to wire the boost controller or wideband just run off wastegate spring for now lol that saves u like a full day. yeah well thats all i got lol thats a hefty list lol

Not much progress again this weekend! picked up a new cosmetic goodie for the car! but while trying to see if I can extend the DP out to clear the WG I realized that its a bit too much... I went and ordered some 44mm flanges and a band and will be making a 90degree adapter for the waste-gate! hope it works out as planned.
Also tried to see if I would be able to align the DP with the mid-pipe without cutting but I might have to. was not lucky enough to just bolt up... BUT... I think a part of it is because the exhaust is just hanging there. and might be a little twisted. I had to zip-tie the exhaust back up, the old zip-tie must have fallen off :-/ http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/a...729_200650.jpg |
 @ zipties
why not just get a new hangers from mazda? |
^ Because it looks like the hanger broke off of the muffler. You can see the rubber mount is still there with the hanger in it.

The old exhaust that was on there the guy must have cut the hanger off the exhaust. actually looks like he welded the hanger to the bracket and then just off the bracket! so untill I can get it off and cut it out and redue a bracket I just need it up so I can align my exhaust properly. John |
So I had some plans on working on the car this weekend and that was a bust! Thursday I head to court to handle my speeding ticket from the rx7 which puts a damper in the weekend. then I get home from work on friday early and get ready to go to my garage and this is what I see on my DD, some ass hole broke in to my car! =(
http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/a...805_160248.jpg http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/a...805_160255.jpg http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/a...805_160551.jpg http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/a...805_201655.jpg So most of my free weekend was spent worrying about this crap! back the car next week I guess =( |
^ That sucks... Did they get anything valuable?

John but no, they took that. the took all my change in the ashtray and the spare $20 I had hidden in my glove box. and other than that nothing that was important to me! I mean they made a mess and broke the center counsel but left everything else! maybe they were looking for a gps or something. still, sucks though:icon_tdow :( |
That sucks, I hate people that bust a $300 window to steal $30 worth of stuff
