Excellent build and write up....looks like Vosko is back on here as well. I thought he left FD's before I did.

HA - my thoughts exactly. Today might be the first time I've been on the forums since 2005?...

almost forgot about ole vosko. is that rat bastard richypoo still on here too?
hi old friends

I'm a build thread whore.. I'm constantly on Speedhunters and other blogs/forums looking for Ideas :icon_tup: Otherwise i'll be building another plain single turbo fd! I'd like to fabricate everything as much as possible and use money for that rather than expensive name brand parts that will cost me twice as much. I'll put money towards things that need but otherwise.. it'll be fabbed up!!

Well you might as well do it for strength then right? haha just wire wheel all the silicone.. honestly only took me about 30 min tops. Then stitch weld or whatever the seams.. Cant hurt right? :)

mannykiller 06-15-11 01:47 AM

Well.... today I got some more sand blasting done. decided to do all my calipers... they were just the biggest eye sores... Gonna pick up some caliper paint tomorrow and hit them with 3-4 coats. Most likely just going to go with Black. Can't go wrong with black..plus I don't think they make a custom color that could withstand the heat.

Thanks, ummm... honestly... it's just a little time consuming haha. I did some reading on this because I was wondering the exact same thing. Found some articles where people said it doesn't need to be fully welded as long as the spots are thorough. Then other's said it was a weight issue.. which I'm truly not worry about in the least. And the only thing that I really agreed with was the time it took. But I plan on covering up my tower.. much like the Panspeed & R-magic car to further reinforce the area's and clean up the visual aspect some.

P.s. Loving your build as well. About to tackle my harness job.. Not looking forward to it either...

hmm makes senses... im just becoming an aesthetics whore so i want those lines smooth... guess ill be welding for a while............. but i rather be welding than be you working on a harness:gwink::lol::lol:

Good luck with that... its SUCH a pita. i've lost soo much motivation just because id spent hours and it would still look like nothing was done.. what are you planning on doing? i got lucky as my wiring job worked although i had NO clue what i was doing just matching colored wires together hahaha:nod: feel free to pm me if you have any questions, i can try to help lol

ps loving the fender pull!

I guess the most tedious part is grinding off all the paint and silicon caulking crap. When you hit it with the wire wheel.. it heats up and spider webs...and it gets EVERYWHERE!! so id suggest setting up some type of barrier or it'll get all over that garage of yours haha.

ahh shiiiiii lol:lol:... I'm going to re-locate the fuse box and relays to my cabin as well.. I'm not looking forward to it in the least...

silverTRD 06-15-11 04:34 PM

as far as the caliper paint goes, it was terrible when i used it, it was so thin that when i sprayed it, it dripped no matter how thin of a coat i used.

what i ended up doing was getting testors model paint, the small jars. they are actually an enamel paint, thinned them very slightly and put it in the cheapie testors air brush kit, my red paint has lasted me years with no chipping etc. and another bonus is colors galore!

mannykiller 06-16-11 12:47 PM

^ hmmmm I was actually quite surprised at how thick the caliper paint went on.. and it seems pretty durable too. Let 3 coats dry over-night and doesnt scrape or dent when I push my nail into it. I'm sure it'll cure further over time. I'm prob gonna do 2 more coats. I'll eventually upgrade to the Racing brake kit but for now.. this'll do just fine. It was just a huge eye sore looking at my nice suspension and coilovers..hooked up to some filthy calipers etc. Anyways here's some pics of the paint.
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...615_172639.jpg
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...615_173720.jpg
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...615_173729.jpg

I also spent another 45 min on my Fender pull. It's taking a lot of time...and today I'm going to cut into the wheel well more in order to fit my mallet under there so i can work the metal more. It's frustrating because I know its not quite the way I want it to look.. and its taken me a lot of time. ( about 5 hours) and I still havn't even touched the other side. It doesn't look good in the pics at all.. and in real life.. it doesn't look good at all either because the paint is all ground off etc.. But after I weld up the inside again and sturdy up the well with an inside lip/body work.. it'll look really good.

I didn't have any luck with the caliper paint either but maybe you're using a different brand than mine. I had a painter friend of mine paint them and clear the hell out of them. My boy bought your meisters by the way, going for more poke?

KKMpunkrock2011 06-16-11 02:30 PM

for in-progress-with-no-paint I actually think it looks decent. What wheel/tire combo do you want to run when its all said and done?
(I didn't intend that to rhyme)

Ohhh nice.. nahh not more poke. Just more tire on the pavement.... The I think you just have to let the paint dry long enough before handling them..and not spray it on super thick all at once. Do some light coats..let dry and then re-coat. It's feeling pretty strong as of rightnow..but time will tell.

Ideally i'm looking for 10.5 in the rear and 9.5 in the front. But i'm not opposed to 11 in the rear and 10 up front either.

Thinking of running a 265/40/18 rear 255-45/35/18 up front.. I'm all open for suggestions though...:icon_tup:

Looking for a nice set of TE37's..just like fdmuri's..or another set of meisters..

EPD 06-18-11 09:33 PM

Aaron, dont touch that quarter panel anymore. Call or text when your available and ill bring some stuff to try to straighten it out.

mannykiller 06-20-11 01:32 AM

Too late man... I actually got it to just about where I want it. Looks bad in that pic above cause it was half and half pushed in. But it's looking much much better now. Just need some support on the inside, to have the inner fender welded back in place. Then bodywork...

Got some stuff done though. Ordered my fuel filter, so now i'm trying to think of a good place to re-locate it to. And I finished painting my Brakes.

check it
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...619_150302.jpg
And made my crate for Howard.. Just need to figure out a good morning to head and drop the motor off at the terminal.
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...619_204935.jpg
And finally.. I sold my wheels.. Seeing them like this makes me want to keep them so badly.. But it's just time to move up to something more performance oriented. They were 18x8 up front and 18x9 in the rear. I'm looking at 9.5 in the front and 10.5 in the rears..or 10's up front and 11's in the rear. Need to put the power down to the pavement and give myself some cornering foot prints!!

This is a nasty build! awesome job and I wish I had a third of the confidence to build something like this.....

FDmuri 06-20-11 12:20 PM

do u already have something picked out for wheels?

mannykiller 06-20-11 12:52 PM

^ I have a couple Ideas... Some nice TE's like you.. or some J-lines.. Also not counting out a nother set of meisters..

YoshiFD3S 06-20-11 06:58 PM

I just picked up some 19X8.5 iForged Retro's this weekend.

If they were staggered, I'd put them on the FD in a heartbeat.

Very "luxury performance" styling. Excellent price from a Club Lexus forum member too.

Something to consider in your next rim decision.

;]

mannykiller 06-21-11 12:05 AM

looking at the following sizes. front 9.5/Rear 10.5 or Front 10/ Rear 11 for the most part... But I am open to other options..

mannykiller 06-21-11 03:19 AM

Today I spent packing up my meisters... which are no longer my meisters haha. Sold...in pursuit of something wider.

On to the updates...
Worked on my fender again today.. I think it looks a hell of a lot better...but I'm still not happy with it. It really bothers me that I had to cut out the inner lip that was rolled incorectly before.. at this point I really wish I wouldn't have. But I think it's going to look good once I smooth out the transitions. I won't be flaring it anymore, as I've reached my goal as far as the pull goes. What do you guys think? Better Worse? I've also been thinking about trying to locate some Metal pan-speed fenders that someone made a while ago here on the forum for a limited run.. That'd really clear this headache... I'm just not looking forward to doing this to the other side..

mannykiller 06-22-11 01:46 AM

Yea.. I think i'm gonna continue with the hammer for a lil more... I think I might buy a smaller mallet.. with a roundish flat face.

FDmuri 06-22-11 10:37 AM

Honestly.. i've put about 9-10 hours into it so far... But keep in mind that it's my first time doing a pull to this extent. And I'm a slight imperfectionist when it comes to how I want it to look. I live out in the Antelope Valley. About an hour and 25 min from Jaime's place/LAX. I could probly knock out one side in about 3-4 hours now that I know what it takes. But I couldn't guarantee perfect paint after this. I wire wheeled mine off because it was already hacked at the wheel lip when I started. My car had already been re-painted...but they didn't do a very good job... :icon_tdow

FDmuri 06-22-11 01:33 PM

ahhh bad ass, well if you think u could do something similar to my friend i would definitely pay(money, beer, black diamonds, turkish women..tight pantz)! i dont really care about paint cause id be getting the car repainted anyway lol.. sorry to jack your thread tho!. i love what you are doing and can't wait to see it in person with the new setup.

Hmmm this is a little risky haha.. I would love to.. but it will def need paint when I'm done with it... and You'll have to have someone weld in a filler piece on the inside of the fender as you have to cut out the inner well to reach the body. I'm not sure i'd feel right taking money from you after beating the living piss out of your fender haha

mannykiller 06-27-11 02:28 AM

Not much of an update.. but Pulled off my Brake Master Cylinder and wire wheeled rust off it.. yes.. RUST!! I hate rust.. Then wrapped it with some more hear barrier for kicks..

^ Thank you!!

I got My new Fuel Filter in today.. An Aeromotive High Flow with a trick ass Shut off Valve. Part Number: 12331 AN-10 100 micron. So along with it being an anti theft device as far as shuting my fuel line off.. I can flip the lever and change my fuel filter without getting petrol all over my arm. Now where to re-locate it to.. Needs to be somewhere easy to get to...Was thinking possibly on the body of the inside trunk area.. or maybe even a rear bin? ...We'll see. Check it out!

wutangben 06-28-11 12:20 PM

is there a reason why you put that heat reflective tape on the brake booster instead of the master cylinder itself?

cuz it looks awesome. He should do em both anyways.

I need a fuel cut-off switch. I didn't feel like paying for the aeromotive filter just to get the switch.
