You wouldn't happen to have a picture of some modded ones would you?

vosko 04-13-11 10:45 PM

mine are on the car. i didn't take great pix when i got them. there is not much to see. they are just shorter ?

mannykiller 04-13-11 11:08 PM

hmm i'll google pic it..

mannykiller 04-15-11 12:45 PM

Lugs come in tomorrow thanks to Rishie at Autornd!! I love the way the extended studs look. It was a pain in the ass replacing the wheel bearings... but they were shot anyways so it ended up being worth it

the wheel studs look awesome, i love this.

muibubbles 04-16-11 07:47 PM

whattttt you shouldla posted a diy! those extended lugs look dopeee

ALPSTA 04-16-11 09:18 PM

Nice build.

Imo stick with the GTX35R. I placed my order for the same turbo as yours instead of an EFR. On paper BW EFR has all the bells and whistles but I didn't want to be the guinea pig and I also suspect the advantages are mostly on paper. Btw internal WG versions of BW are not suitable for rotary applications. I'd probably give it a shot if I had an EVO or a Civic though.

GT series for RX7 are true and tested. No fitment problems and performs just as expected. You already have the GTX35R so why spend more for minimal improvement in response and that's if there are any. Money is better spent elsewhere imo.

How long does it take to change wheels with those long studs?

just about the same time it takes to change wheels with short studs, The key is to have the right tools for the job.

mannykiller 04-18-11 06:18 PM

A little update. Got my lugs from Rishie at AutoRND on Saturday and was able to get the car on the ground. I raised the coil ride height about a half inch in the rear so I could get onto the trailer. But Check it out...

extended studs all the way around:nod:
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...416_154647.jpg
And finally on the ground... Feels good to have the car touch the ground after damn near 6 months.
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...417_102557.jpg
And all trailered up...

And finally in her new home..

mannykiller 04-18-11 06:24 PM

Now that the car is into my new gorage.... I'm pretty sure my next big investment is having my Block put together. I have my rotating assembly, and irons.. so as long as mr coleman approves my irons as being buildable, we should be ready to go. Also, i'll be tackling some well needed underbody cleaning. My rear subframe is filthy... I'm contemplating just dropping the whole thing out and going at it. We'll see if my buddy evan will help me haha.

Lastly... looking for a T2 LSD unit in good condition.. lemme know if anyone has one!! thx!!

GodSquadMandrake 04-18-11 07:22 PM

Can you use an impact with those lugs?

mannykiller 04-18-11 09:41 PM

Yes you can, I'm sure if you hammer on them the writing will start to fade...but thats just like any lug. I had the same lugs before this set and I used an impact on them myself several times. But then again... I building the car with intentions of beating the living hell out of it. I take care of my things...but I'm pretty hard on them as well..

Alex Rodriguez 04-18-11 11:28 PM

man those lugs are nice Aaron. What happened to your old ones?

mannykiller 04-18-11 11:51 PM

^ man... I sold them thinking I was going to get the Rays Formula lugs. But after looking into it a little more I realized that the formula lugs have an inside drive... which means you couldn't run extended studs.. SOAB. Id've kept them if I would have known hah.

GodSquadMandrake 04-19-11 12:38 AM

That's cool mannykiller. People were telling me that you couldn't use an impact on those so I was like "Huh?" when I saw those and your long studs. That would take forever to get those wheels off if you couldn't use an impact!

mannykiller 04-19-11 10:27 AM

yea, well even without an impact its honestly not that bad. maybe a couple extra minutes. Unless your some leman's 24hr team on a time cruch in the pitts...i don't think the extra couple min's will hurt.

Manners226 04-19-11 03:58 PM

Amazing ride man.

love the look of it :)

It's actually a custom kit I got off a member here. Has dual Earls coolers... I love the way it fits and its routed.. It's kind of just hanging un mounted in areas in the pics above but when it's all tidy it's really nice. I'd recommend dual oil coolers for anyone who regularly tracks their car, or lives in a dry hot area, or any substantial power modifications ie single turbo's etc.:icon_tup:

mannykiller 04-20-11 12:50 PM

So before I tackled the suspension... I actually spend a lot of time cleaning up the engine bay. I moved a couple relays, organized the passenger side harness and ran it a little more safely (up and out of the way of the wheel). I think it had been tampered with before i bought the car because looking at my service manual it shouldn't have been mounted the way it was. Even had some rub marks from the tire....that luckily didn't get bad enough do any real damage. Heres some pics of the process.

OMFG... What a bloody mess right?
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...d/SDC12527.jpg
Thats a little better for now.
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...d/SDC12547.jpg
and the relocation of some relays... think I might have posted this already but oh well..
From up on the wheel well close to the strut tower
to here.... tucked away in the front passenger side area closest to the headlight and fan relays. I Figured this would give me a little more room/cleanliness for my set-up and also still have room for my v-mount set up.

Thanks for the reply. I'm in the process of mounting the almost same exact kit in my FD. Engine bay is looking killer.:icon_tup:

Prrex... Nice man!! you should post some pics when your done!! i don't even mind if you post them in here just so I don't have to look around for em haha.

So I did a little bit of cleaning again today. Cleaned up a whole of wiring and organized some lines/wires as well. I forgot to take a picture of before...but i guess you'll have to take my word for it that it looks way better haha.
Also... I am contemplating wrapping the whole thing with heat reflective.. or just re-painting it nice black.. not sure if it would be an over-kill or not though... we'll see...
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...420_185958.jpg

mannykiller 04-27-11 12:28 AM

Alrighty... So today I finally bought a jack... its pretty damn nice.. and I luckily knew the girl that I asked to help me.. she just gained a lot.. A LOT of weight.. so I didn't recognize her at first. But I got it for 60 bucks.. lowest point is 2-3/4 Inches!!! 2 Ton capacity. Hell of a deal! But I pulled my rear diffusor off and decided to give it a good clean. Then I went over the under/top side with a dark Sealer but it ended up being flat... So i'll have to go get a gloss tomorrow. Either way It looks much much better than before.
before
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...426_183034.jpg
After
http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y...426_221252.jpg
Also, I spent a long time making both sides equally measured... went with this setting to pull out some of the camber and see if my wheels still fit... We'll see tomorrow morning when I put the car on the ground..but i'm almost positive they'll rub.

yes sir... why's that? I was thinking of putting it closer to the igniter, actually right next to it, on the fender wall.

Thanks everyone for the Comments!!:icon_tup:

mannykiller 04-28-11 10:05 PM

MR_Rick 04-29-11 06:47 AM

Is you car supported by bricks?

mannykiller 04-29-11 10:36 AM

I know someone was gonna say that. I have two jack-stands in the rear and the bricks are there to balance the car out a little. There's also a floor jack supporting the front of the car. It's actually really sturdy...believe me haha. I've used bricks my whole life really though with no problem.

MR_Rick 04-29-11 01:54 PM

Well the reason why I brought it up, is because I used to use bricks too till one of them cracked and crumble and the car fell on my buddy's leg braking it.

KaiFD3S 04-29-11 03:39 PM

Can't wait to see this done Aaron, I have been contemplating of tearing the car down and re-building..I guess if my motor blows that will give me a reason.

KKMpunkrock2011 04-29-11 04:38 PM

jack stands are cheap at harbor freight, I really see no reason to be using something brittle like bricks.

KenSpeC 04-30-11 10:38 PM

nice build manny!! Do you have the part number for the extended studs please?! Whats the knurl measurement on them?

mannykiller 04-30-11 10:57 PM

You guys are right... I'm just being dumb and lazy. I'll get some tomorrow morning...well after the Arsenal Man U game. LETS GO ARSENAL!!!

I don't think i'm going to paint the trans.. I hate when the paint starts toflake off and it looks all cheezy.. but check it!

Motor has about 21,000 miles on it but still running strong, cross my fingers...:icon_tup:

Just put the time in and you should get it done by sevenstock...

Excellent build and write up....I'm heavily debating the idea of getting back into an RX7. Been away from them for a while, but this was an enjoyable thread to read and kind of relive the old rotary days. I like my C6Z, but I cared more about my FD's....dunno. We'll see. Excellent build and write up....looks like Vosko is back on here as well. I thought he left FD's before I did.

Thank you!! And...Oh I dare you to get back into one.... It's all about what makes us happy am I right? I mean.. I had a couple other cars before my fd.. and I loved them.. but theres something about meeting your soul mate in the form of an automobile that can't be traded for anything. For me it's the fd :icon_tup:

Contact Rishie at Autornd. He'll set you up with the bushing kit I used. Also, you might want to replace the pillow balls as well. There are 6 of them.. and believe me.. they probly need to be replaced. Malloy mazda has them and there is a group buy in the group buy section for atomic rx7 pillow balls which are great quality as well but a little cheaper.. check it out brotha!!

Dude I am re glassing my diffuser. A piece of wood on the freeway had fun with it at 80mph.

mannykiller 05-02-11 12:54 AM

Also my buddy Danny pin-stripes a lot of motorcycle tanks and helmets... So I asked him if he could do my helmet. He asked me what I wanted on it and I said something kinda simple.. But I wanted the word "Drive" on the back.. I think it came out pretty bad ass..
