Kilo Racing 3 Rotor FD Conversion
#1776
Don't know yet. Maybe this weekend? I heard from Alex yesterday and they've taken car of the last issue I know of - the Jacobs Accuvolt unit turns on, even with the car in the accessory only (radio on) position. This causes the battery to drain very quickly. As Jacosbs has no solution to this, Gotham added a 12 farad digital capcitor between the Jacobs unit and the battery. I'd have to look up the storage capacity of a 12 farad unit, but this is pretty big and should allow me to turn on the radio without turning on the car for a pretty good amount of time without affecting the battery.
So to recap:
- Hood: new mesh painted/powder coated flat black and inserted in hood. [DONE]
- Radiator shroud/door sills painted exterior black. Door sills to have RX7 logo painted silver. [DONE]
- PLX gauges: background to match stock gauges (I think this is black with white letters and a red/amber needle). [DONE]
- Trace/fix ignition "clicking" noise. [DONE, bad wiring fixed]
- Fix flashing airbag warning light. Probably the sensor in the front bumper? [DONE, wiring originally used for airbags was bypassed; new wiring run to fix problem]
- Trace/fix radiator fan noise. Steve says he heard this during tuning. [DONE, Spal fans swapped out for higher flowing units]
- Install new sunroof seal. [DONE]
- Install new interior plastic parts (OEM fog light switch, door light switch, center console) [DONE]
The only item lesft is to have car professionally detailed, including engine bay area. Other than this, Alex needs to drive the car to ensure it's ready to go. I also need to remind him to fix/repaint the lower fron bumper lip he dinged up on his last runs Should be anytime right?

Update: Nutria Rat 1, RX7 0
I met Gotham Racing last week to pick up the car. My wife and I flew into New Orleans and the French Quarter, where we met Gotham Racing's Alex, Brain, and George and Asian Motorsport's (painter and hood modifier) AJ. The guys drove a convoy of three RX7s, including mine, to the Big Easy.
Before I explain the above, here a few shots of what the car looked like before it left Gotham:

Plz don't say the car has been in an accident, and is totaled. Cause of the topic im having a bad feeling. And it would be a total shame after such along and struggeling journey to get the car fixed.
I hope im wrong David, cause the car looks awsome now compeard to how it looked when i was at gotham last fall.

Update: Continued
So, what changed between leaving Gotham in Dallas and arriving in New Orleans? Ever hear of a Nutria Rat? They're basically a 20 - 30 lb. rat, beaver looking thing that lives in the swamps of LA. They're not indigenous to the US, but were imported many years ago and have now started to overrun the area. I hear they taste good though
So, about 30 miles outside of New Orleans, during the middle of the night, one of these bastards went scurrying in front of my car. Apparently RX7s have some pretty good aerodynamics and the rat got sucked under the car. Unfortunately it also appears my new vented hood works well, as the Nurtia rat was then sucked up - into my radiator, thus taking out the bottom 4 rows of the unit. Steam shot up and the car had to be towed into New Orleans. The guys spent the night on the side of the road trying to make this happen. New Orleans is not quite back up on its feet (I'll save my political rantings about the ignoring of this great and wild American City for another time) and it took several hours to arrange for a tow truck. One finally came and towed the car to The Radiator Shop, just outside of the French Quarter, where the guys then called me with the bad news. I couldn't believe it! I took a cab over to the shop and saw this:
My car up on a lift:
The front end apart (love bugs optional):
[imghttps://www.rx7club.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=248919&stc=1&d=1184854 734[/img]
And the radiator, with large chunks of it missing:
What's the luck and timing of something like this happening? Probably one in many thousands. We all just looked at each other and shook our heads. Gotham then spent several hours trying to figure out how to get a new radiator drop shipped/sent to New Orleans and then figuring out how they were going to fabricate the new radiator, brackets, and AC condensor (all aluminum parts) as well as straighten out the bent intercooler piping and the recharging the AC system. Ultimately they decided it would be better if they, not me and my wife, were to break down on the side of the highway (Brian mentioned something about my lack of mechanical skills)
so they had the old radiator cut and welded back together and reinstalled. They cut off the AC condensor to ensure better airflow and put the front end back together. After showering and resting up (should have seen the looks of the people when three dirty and tired guys showed up in RX7s at the entrance to the Ritz Carlton), we then grabbed some food in the French Quarter, took a little tour of Bourbon Street - always a good time - and they hopped back into the cars to drive back to Dallas.
So, where does that leave us? I came within 30 miles and one swamp rat from having my car. So, so painfully close. Gotham's busy fixing the car and then is going to ship (we decided we've had enough of trying to drive) the car directly to me. This should happen over the next week I would hope. The good news is the car ran flawlessly, even in the exceedingly humid and hot New Orleans weather. I also hear an overly ambitious 350Z owner got quite the suprise when it tried to race my car - apparently only 25% throttle was needed to spank the pesky little sucker.
Thanks to Alex, Brian, George, and AJ for their efforts last week. I really appreciate it. The saga continues but the ending is near!

Also, I was asked this by another forum member, yes, Gotham is paying for the repairs and to ship the car to me.

Whatever you do Rich, make sure it is a fully enclosed transport, with FULL REPLACEMENT COVERAGE. Those that deal with concours quality cars are the best.
I personally like PassPort, who transported three of my cars from California to Florida, when I was re-located.
