wow, 20B, *envy* =::::: (crying and drooling at the same time).

I have a question for those who knows. 13B motor average gets about 40- 60k miles if you take good care of it + race, how long does 20B motors last??? does it require rebuilt as often as 13B, or ever???

The Pettet flares look retarded so unrefined and childish IMP. I would have to find another way to hold tracktion. I guess if your cars that fast it help a little. Get a dyno when its done.

Not to be too stealth about this, but the car is currently in CA having some interesting things done to it. Will have some wrap up news and lots of pics in the next 60 days. I haven't posted in a while because I've been waiting for a finalization to the project.

As for the Pettit flares, I posted some pics of mine many pages ago in this thread. I've received many, many positive comments about them, including the 20 or so cars that stopped and watched while my car was loaded on the transport to CA.

Lean in the direction of "trick stuff". Hint: I totally destroyed the second turbo trying to get it to hold 12 lbs. of boost. The turbo shaft sheared in half.

Decided to correct this problem (lack of boost hold with the twins) once and for all.

He should go single, why spend all that money on a high HP motor swap and stick with the shitty stock twin turbos with all the crappy hoses.. He should of went single from the start.. Doesnt make sense to do the 20b swap for only 400hp.. Dave your FD looks sweet with the flares. What rear and axels are you going to install?

With an aftermarket turbo that won't happen . . .but you'll start tearing apart the transmission countershaft instead

Decided to correct this problem (lack of boost hold with the twins) once and for all.
Have you decided on a turbo? I am going with the larger of the 2 GT42R compressors and a 1.15 Q trim turbine on mine.

reagarding shearing the 2nd turbo while trying to hold 12psi.... im assuming you're talking about the stock secondary (ht-10). im also assuming that pettit set it up non sequential correct?? i can never figure out how pettit has been using these stock turbos without breaking the secondary (and what happened to you supoports my theory). mazda used an unbalanced turbo design for a reason.... before the transition all 3 turbos feed the large primary (ht-15), after transition one of the rotors is directed toward the secondary ht-10 (which is the size of my big toe) and the other two continue to feed the primary. what pettit does is rip out the seq control flappers to increase flow and simplify the turbos. many people do this easily on FD with their twins but those twins are balanced (the same size). with the 20b twins, by ripping out the flapper doors you defeat the way mazda proportioned the exhaust flow. result? well apparantly you kill the tiny secondary by over working it..... if thats not the case then the efficiency of the turbos are ruined by not directing enough exhaust to either one. i cant see how pettit continues to use these for their 20b applications in non-seq mode. if they kept them as sequential it would be a different story. -heath

Not really Heath. The turbos can survive non seq operation if you hold boost at the turbos efficiency level and don't exceed 1 bar. Attilia the fun has been running non seq with his 20b Fc for years. He has well over 50k miles on his set-up. Maybe Pettit got ahold of a bad secondary when he rebuit the twins?

Wow, the thread is back from the dead! I'm still waiting on posting until I have the car back from CA and the final results are in. Keep your fingers crossed.

Your theory regarding the ability of the secondary turbo to hold boost seems to be dead on when compared to my experience. I ended up going thru two sets of turbos (with one being brand new OEM, not rebuilt) with the same results. Neither would hold more that 10ish lbs. of boost. I did call several other tuners looking for advice and most said they believed the turbos would hold 15 PSI. Just didn't happen for me.

To answer the question regarding the turbo, yes I've made my selections. The car is in CA and all of the parts should be there by now so I'm about 3-4 weeks from completion. I think you guys will be impressed. Of course I've thought this before with the 20B conversion only to end up doing more work

Nothing I want to post yet. I'd rather wait until the "project" is completed and I have real results. Did hear from my CA contact today and things are again moving forward. I guess everything takes time.

As for the DVD, I sent it to jsplit (I think) several months ago. Guess he didn't post it and I didn't keep a copy of it.

Yeah, I thought to myself, why not send it as far away as possible? That's the thing to do!

Anyway, anxiously awaiting on that good phone call saying it's done. Waiting...waiting...waiting....
