GTRNZ / GT2 RX7 race car build

Hey Team, yes i'm very green here, but I'd like to share what I've got going at the moment.
Bit of a background..

Over here in NZ, we have a class called GTRNZ where it's split up into three classes. GT run by themselves in the slower bracket,
and GT2/GT1 run in the same class but are in different time brackets.
We're aiming for GT2, as GT1 cars are ex V8 Supercars, GT3 cars, and TraNZam cars.
Also we want to run endurance races here as well. We have a north and south island series and they run after the GTRNZ sprint series.
These are 1, 3, 6 and one 12 hour races.

We've experience running 650hp V8 BMWs in sprint and endurance racing, E30s and 36s in Targa rally,
Couple of McLaren CanAm cars and F5000s.

Our aim for the car is to be around 500hp(or more) and weight in less than 1000kg.

We picked the car up from Japan, to help someone bringing in a special car fill a container,
It was full of the usual stuff, bolt in cage, Tein Susp, EDFC, broken triangles etc.

So we started parting that out to keep our shop clean and to plan on how were going to attack the car.

I've only got shitty phone photos at the moment, because no real need to use a real camera just yet on the boring parts..

I'll keep you guys posted as we're a bit past this stage as of tonight, and the next few weeks will be more interesting.

Thanks.

Hey mate, Andy Duffins is amazing, have been following that and he's been really great about the little questions I ask.
No, sold the engine already =)

We've had the car for a few months and we're at the stage now where we can start designing subframes and arms.

Yep that's him! :)
Indeed its an interesting piece of engineering all right
Sean gave me much advise with my build

Dude are you doing 20b Na aswell? please say so!
seans turbo was built down here in Nelson . by Craig at nz turbochargers. I was told he's running less boost then he's capable of so his tyres last the day lol rather then a single race.
Damn this build is full steam ahead already. Big brake kit already lol

I've just seen your thread! Very clean and simple build. It's great!

I havnt seen it run with the turbo set up, but NA it was great.
With the BMWs we look after, they're obviously not on the same weekend, and apart from doing our race meetings, we don't get along to much else.
I think he's going to 280 wide all round now?
How much power is he making?

Not doing a 20b sorry!

Hey team, been a bit slow the past couple of weeks.
My father and I have been quite busy.
Work shop is a mess as you can see.

Few updates from the last couple of weeks though.

Attachment 615929
Finalizing jig and setting car up.

Attachment 615930

Jig on Castors. Can easily been changed by lifting up with hoist or jack, sliding out legs then onto the floor.
It's very simple and very strong.
Perfect for what we need.

Attachment 615931

After we decided what our ride height would be, we needed to check tyre deflection to compensate for that into the height the car sits off the jig.
So we measured from the floor to the bottom of wheel.
Then bolted it to the ute, weighted it and measured again.
At 28psi (which would be our hot pressure, the tyre dropped 10mm for the 280 wide rear and about 13mm for the 245 front.
This helps with setting our car up with about 10mm of rake.

Attachment 615932

After spending about 30mins centering the car on the jig, we had had enough and wanted a look with a guard and wheel on.
The guards are only about 20mm wider than stock, but are higher so we can go lower.

Attachment 615933

We'll be cutting shortly.
It'll be as much space frame as we can get out of WTAC rules.
As our measurements are, from floor to roof will be 1130mm.
