So it was time to get the front together. Being that I had all the arms off, I decided to do something I don't see a lot of people doing...I replaced all of the ball joint dust covers. I figure after 20yrs new ones are due (and some new grease).

I also took off my front hub dust cover shields because I hear all the cool kids are doing it.

Big thanks to Ray @ Malloy for all the fresh OEM parts!

Front suspension about 50% on.

Something I've noticed from my parts tumbler...the fine walnut shells have a bad habit of leaving a little bit of residue stuck in the threads of some of the larger bolts. Granted, because I'm a bit OCD, I've been using a tap and die on all of the nuts and bolts to clean out the threads regardless before they go back on the car but felt I should mention this for the sake of others.

Started to install my block off plates. I've realized I absolutely hate gasket crap and in the future will cleanly weld everything shut...actually going to do that on my spare LIM, etc. just to have it done.

Officially set my oil pan brace and added my baller magnetic oil pan plug + oil pickup tube...even added a new oil pan pickup tube gasket from Ray!

Installed swaybar mounts, Improved Racing endlinks and last set of Powerflex bushings and realized that my front swaybar was 100% bent from the accident impact. Good thing I have another on the way!

Hubs go on Saturday along with front wheels and I can push it around the parking lot...yea!

@Manny - Some company in North Carolina...super nice, super professional...all they do is make these magnetic plugs...and the damn thing is strong. It was actually a bitch to get it in bc of the strength of the magnet.

@Mark - Can you pull the front sway bars off one of your FDs and bring it this week? I'll have you a replacement within a week (or give you yours back) and yes...if you provide, I will use.

@Manny - The company is: drainplugmagnets.com

@Dale - Yea I'm getting kinda worried...not going to lie. If my girlfriend had a damn garage at her condo this would have been done in 6 weeks easy. I should have done this at my place in Tampa except my mechanic buddy is super helpful at times.

Put on my fenders and front bumper. Still need to put on my side skirts to complete my "I'm a ******* hipster" body kit...I'm bringing back pre-1999 FD body kits because it's ironic, duh.

Hell yea. Backstory:

Last year at DGRR, I found it interesting that people genuinely got hurt over the car show. My idea was to make this the anti-car show car for DGRR this year and go completely 1999 style body kit.

As this is now becoming my beater FD (in anticipation of buying another nice one in the near future) looks really aren't important to me. Car has been off the road for 4 months and engine is going in this weekend.

Looks are about the LEAST important thing to me with these cars and I suspect that after I go single turbo, AI and other fun items then I will give serious consideration to the "look". I suspect that will be next year unless I find deals on parts that interest me.

I understand this may be sacrilege to some and while I love my car...when it comes down to it...it's a car. I really don't give a crap if people judge me based on what it looks like in the near future, I'm good. =)

Edit: I'm thinking about slapping an LED in place of the turns.

Well at least you've thought it out. Here is a little inspiration, I saw this outside of my office last week.

It actually didn't look that bad from far away.

I've never cared for the side skirts or the rear add-ons that were part of that kit. One of Ruler Marks' 4 FDs has the full kit. I actually put the Racing Beat/Knightsports Sideskirts on. Someone went full F&F with the one outside your office!

Agreed!

Bought the Veilside C1 kit for my first RX7 10 years ago, went with a Knightsport front bumper though after it arrived as it was a bit more aggressive then I was going for.

Cool idea in any case, love the retro theme!

More stuff!

Some Neo Gear Oil. After quite a bit of reading, I decided this is what I wanted to try.

I had Aerocatch pins on my last hood and they worked great but I decided to go with something a bit smaller that involved less cutting this time around.

Got the final bits in for my Oil Cooler setup which I'm looking forward to trying out!

Uh...also new NGK's all the way around!

^ Nice! Make sure you use the "HD" version (not "RHD") in the tranny and the RHD in the diff. The NEO guys told me the RHD will goop up the tranny as the RHD oil has sulphur in it and it will eventually cake the inside of the case. The RHD is what you use for the diff and it works great but you have to change it every 1,500 or so miles.

I use the HD in the tranny and the RHD in the diff and will get it test to out this weekend at VIR.
