Gordon Monsen's NA 20b

I have never really liked the Mazda emblems on the FD and have toyed around with some alternative designs. Below are designs for an emblem to go on the hood and rear that I'm having made by Nader Sharif at built2apex. He's making 2 variations out of aluminum. Shane Drake did the CAD work. May end up not using them, but wanted to see what they would look like in the flesh. Would love to hear any thoughts or comments, as these are not the same as the last ones I tried that had a rotor shaped surround. (Didn't work.)

Not sure that the 7 is recognizable unless one knows it is a 7. Tried to visualize without having a bias and Lexus came to mind. Perhaps also having a relief between the horiz and vertical legs making the 7 stand proud. Glad to see you posting again. You know marketing department would spend months debating, lol.

Thanks for the comment, Steve. The "7", plus the area of the circle from 6 O'Clock to 9 O'Clock is raised in order for the 7 to stand out. Obviously not as successfully as I'd hoped. I couldn't figure out a way to have just the "7" be raised, because of the left hand end of the "7" where it hits the 9 O'Clock on the circle. Maybe I'll end up with just a "7" and no circle.

Then with just a 7 if you get bored rotate 180 for an L and confuse everyone who asks what car is that, an upside down 7. Ok just being a wise as..s This just shows that getting subtle details to work is to appreciated for the effort.

Pop the 7.
Drop the "ring" portion down at the base of the 7 and the left tip of the 7. Now the 7 sits on the ring all around.
Glad you're back.

Thanks...

Try actually drawing that. The problem is with the "tip" or downward serif on the left where it hits 9 O'Clock. If that downward angling serif wasn't there, what you are saying would work, but I think that makes the "7" itself kind of bland.

I knew what you were saying and it looks nice. I'm an eccentric, I am pretty sure. Something bothers me about the way the left-hand-nine-O'clock looks. Maybe having it all flush might be okay, although as steve pointed out it can look like the lexus emblem. Of course an upside down L is going to look like a 7 and vice versa.

This car stuff is like art. You can't please everyone.
I just tried the "7" look for the fun of it.
I'm sure you'll land on one that fits you.

For those of you who know G, this will not be a surprise, as for the rest...
G has a unique style with a certain proclivity to pull inspiration wide range in influence. I think its time to show what we've been working on over the past few months.

Working out some bugs but you can def expect some standing-mile slips in the near future.

Thanks, Tom. Yeah. I wasn't sure how it would look, but I think it shifts attention from the spoiler lip to the nose and grill.

I'm just going to keep posting some photos. All of my posts were destroyed and I am not quite sure what I want to do. I have a few years of the earlier posts in Word, but not sure how to get them up.

You might be able to get some contrast by bead blasting the metal at selected areas, have seen this on metal work and it does dull/darken the area blasted.

Nope, disagree. That base lip does not suit the car at all.

Not hard to remain controversial in this crowd.

How did you make that so fast?

So are you liking how it turned out, or giving it time to grow on you before you decide?

Not exactly. Mostly the original, I'm afraid. I am having a second version made, but Nader is very busy and there's no rush.
