The fury of a thousand suns FD

Simply put - Documenting the progression of my build. A fun, well balanced toy. Track capable while still able to drive to and from work. I am no stranger to the race track or building race cars.

I picked this car up late September as a running, driving car. It was in rough shape, but I was looking for a chassis that needed work as long as the price reflected it. I prefer building / rebuilding a car and going through all aspects of it.

The car will be ever-evolving, as any build is, but I plan to do it in "stages". The first stage will be initial clean up, restoration and setting up a good foundation for the future build. I want to get the car back on the road in a healthy, well mannered state before dumping anymore money into it.

The car came modified with quite a few bit of parts:

Garret GT35R .70 Compressor / 1.06 Turbine
Tial External wastegate dump to atmosphere
3" Downpipe / Exhaust
HKS Super Dragger Exhaust
PWR Radiator
Greddy FMIC
Greddy intake elbow
Greddy Pullies
Apexi BOV
Apexi PowerFC
APexi AVC-R boost controller
No-name short shifter
No-name torque damper
Racing beat front sway bar
Eibach Prokit / Tokico Illuminas
Cusco front strut bar
99 Spec tail lights

The car also came with the AC and P/S already removed. The steering rack has the lines looped. Once the car is on the road I'll decide which route I will go, as to whether I'll do a full manual or put P/S back in.

1993 Rx-7 base model w/ 133,000 miles. Black with tan interior.

Driving it home, so it begins...

Car was downright filthy. The previous owner had been letting the car sit for quite some time. I pressure washed the undercarriage, engine bay and exterior the best I could to give myself a decent base to work with.

Well, here we go....

Got her stripped down pretty good, tons of cleaning to do. My lovely GF doing her part.

Plenty more to come!!

Pulled out the nasty tan leather seats, I had some suede R1 seats from my other project that my GF cleaned up for me. I'll eventually get rid of the tan carpet, but for now I just want to get the car running right. I'll eventually put fixed back buckets in it as well, just need something temporary.

I will also be swapping over black interior from my other car as well.

Cleaned up R1 seats, the driver side has a tear in it but overall they turned out really nice!

Got the engine stripped down far enough to see what I'm working with.

I'll be redoing the entire fuel system, all the vacuum lines, coolant lines, oil feed, OMP lines, fixing any damaged connectors and intercooler couplers. Along with anything else I feel fit for replacement.

A care package showed up!

Continuing the tear down

After even more cleaning, I installed the braided OMP lines and a new turbo oil feed line. Cleaned out the nozzles as well prior to re-installing. Much better.

The ABS had to go. I cannot stand ABS, especially in older cars. I only see advantages to removing the ABS. I used the Alex Rodriguez kit (which thus far I would recommend, excellent customer support) with the adjustable proportioning valve, should be able to fine tune the bias pretty easily now.

So nice to have that giant hunk of **** gone... Still need to continue removing all the ABS wiring and the module.

Worked on cleaning up the wiring while I was at it and removing what I didn't need.

Too bad the paint in the engine bay is pretty beat up
