I spent a wonderful month in Japan, but because of the strict luggage regulations, I wasn't able to bring back either a complete exhaust system or the body kit I wanted. So I'm putting that off for a little while
However, there was already progress made:
After driving for more than 10 minutes the interior got hot, like extremely hot. The heat came from the gearbox and from the ventilation system - the first one was missing the insulation, the second was due to a missing weather strip. The insulation was easily bought off the shelf from a local RX-7 workshop but the weatherstrip was NLA - so i built one myself using some clips from a set i bought on amazon and got myself a universal sealing strip (14mm i believe). Made a small hole in the seal, put the rear of the clip in, heat resistant glue, done. Works great - finally comfortable driving.
Also the rear differential oil got changed yesterday - disclaimer for anyone doing this: it contains sulfur and if you get a drop of that onto your clothing or skin it will smell horrible for a long time. So if you want to keep your wives happy - be wary of that
New battery - and i **** you not - not a single electrical issue since then. The old battery showed normal voltage but apparently, once it got hooked onto the car and started it, the voltage died. The new battery was really a lifesaver and fixed stuff i thought was way more serious...
And i got myself a kind of "lift". Since i am obviously not allowed get a 2-Post lift or anything fixed in the parking lot, i needed something that can be moved, can't burn and doesn't need electricity. This small ramps get the car up by 45 cm / 17 inch and thus i have roughly 55 cm / 22 inch of space under the car.
HOWEVER: No progress without issues -since yesterday i have low oil pressure readings when warm idling. I made a separate thread for that since i didn't find anything exactly like it before on here: 1992-rx-7-fd-low-oil-pressure-warm-idle-1173594
self-made weather strip
finally working under the car
