My first FD!
Hello all! This is my first FD it is a 92 import brought in my Driver motorsports in VA! I have a thread in the introduction section but I wanted to start a build thread to keep up with all the changes and progress on the car!
photos below are from the day it was picked up from port. After arrival they did a full inspection, new plugs, fresh oil change, full detail, paint touch up on the driver door, and paint less dent removal on the car.
car came with re fixed headlights, bumper, hood, fender, spoiler, skirts, rear quarter flairs, re dolphin tail cat back, and rear bumper extensions.
Interior was stock besides a momo steering wheel and Mazda speed shirt ****.
engine was totally stock

After the PDR, full detail, and inspection she was ready to come home!
car was picked up and on its way to me! Delivery truck Broke down and delivery company started acting very suspicious, not allowing me to know location or where my car was and would not give me a delivery date or make further arrangements for delivery. Basically just holding my car in an unknown location. Finally after a lengthy conversation with the driver and some additional phone calls I was able to get an answer on where my car was being held and luckily I had a good friend just a couple hours away and he was able to pick the car up for me.
made it to his shop and car was finally safe in good hands.
the next weekend he was able to deliver it to me and I finally had my dream car home!

First photos after delivery and getting the car cleaned up. I absolutely love this thing. It is a blast to drive!
RE wheels are in rough shape, but I had a set of super advans getting refinished while I waisted for the car to come in and they finally arrived!
shortly after I had to fly down to TN to pick up my other car and attend a show in Chattanooga called Riverside. If any of y’all are in the surrounding areas and haven’t been I recommend going hands down the best show around.
was an absolute pleasure finally meeting Phil and seeing the car that started my love for the RX7 in person again after all these years. Was lucky enough they did night before set up and after getting my booth organized I was able to get a shot of his FD before people showed up the next morning.
finally made it home and both cars got to meet one another. The Y32 has been a project of mine for the last 5 years and is the main shop car for my business show casing a lot of our products we sell.

My first few parts I ordered came in! Started cleaning up the interior with new genuine leather shift boot and ebrake boot, new shift ****, and ebrake handle cover, as well as a different steering wheel.
after that I started on the upgrades and maintenance! First parts ordered were new inner/ outer tie rods, light weight pulleys from banzai racing with new belts, Koyo Nflow radiator, petite silicone radiator hoses, new check valves from banzai.
getting all these parts on I ran into my first issue! Stripped out bolt on the thermostat housing, it unfortunately snapped off in the coolant housing car enough where I couldn’t extract it easily. Luckily Ray Crowe came in clutch with a brand new complete oem assembly and a new idler pulley.
next up while all this was going on, I threw in a walbro 255, and scored some blitz (Msport intakes) super cheap on YAJ that needed new filters and cleaned up, so picked up some new vibrant filters. Also got a good deal on a ARC race spec SMIC that I stripped and polished.
grabbed a cooling panel from LRB to clean up the nose area, a couple hard intake pipes, and got some Dress up bolts

Picked up a few parts that unfortunately didn’t work. I was dumb and got a US spec down pipe not thinking about the steering shaft being there and got a ast delete swirl pot from Vinny fab that didn’t clear the factory hot pipe. and I grabbed interior hatch seal when I needed the window seal. 😂
intercooler transformation. I need to get a new sticker for the top.
I have quite a few parts still stacked up waiting to go on! I am loving this car more and more every day.
also what’s the point of owning a business if you don’t put your own car on your apparel

thank you! The re wheels will make their way back onto the car eventually. The faces are in pretty bad shape so just waiting on me to finish up other items on my list and then I will get them redone.

I remember seeing the auction for this one. Nice buy. any plans for color change or color matching the front bumper? Did you happen to notice any difference with heat soak or "butt dyno" with the intercooler? I'm going to be going SMIC and looking at the ARC, Kightsports and the Aussie one. I'm in Florida so during the summer I don't push the car during the day just because of the heat. The ARC is the only one I'm looking at that isn't dual pass so I was wonder how much more affective it is over the stock one.

between the intake and intercooler I could definitely tell a difference in response time. If I was starting back from square 1 I’d honestly probably just go Vmount. But My ideal SMIC set up would have been knightsport IC paired with the Autoexe intake.
I do have plans to do a full respray in the future. Paint is extremely rough on the car and I found two rust holes in the hatch under the spoiler. Ideally I’d like to go with Mazda soul crystal red

I've already got the AutoExe intake, just haven't installed it yet. Car is bone stock at the moment so I'm planning on Dynoing stock once I refresh the rats nest and fuel system, then dyno with the addition of the intake, then the intercooler and so on with mods so I can track the difference each makes. I'm keeping fairly stock so not much will be done. That soul crystal red looks great on FD's, makes them look more "mature" over the VR in my opinion.
I love the SCR. I wish it wasn’t such an expensive colour, but I’ll end up doing most of the prep work myself to save some $$$ in the long run. My buddy in Ohio runs a wrap company and he’s trying to convince me to do a full livery on it. Must say I’m tempted just for the fun of it. Good advitising for the business, but it really wouldn’t flow well with the period correct theme the car is now.

Got quite a bit done today!!
blown out JIC coils are off on the front and new Touge technicques are in.
Mevotech hub bearings are on, pulled the upper control arms off to put new oem ball joint boots on and repacked the ball joints with fresh grease and cleaned them up and painted them with some high temp aluminum paint.
Installed my new brakes! Ended up going with r1 concept pads and rotors front and rear, went ahead and painted the calipers while I was in there as well as the bearing caps (since my wheels don’t have center caps )
still need to do break lines front and rear, but found a seized bleeder on my LF caliper that I’ll need to deal with first. Other than lines front end is complete
rears still need to install coilovers, lower control arms / tension rods, and toe arms.

That is quite the period piece kit and you've really brought it to life. Super Advans will draw a lot of attention.
Post some pics to this thread as well.

(P.S. how much for a hoodie?)

thank you! Yeah I love the super advans on there. Between me and my brother we’ve had this set for probably 12 years and on a handful of different cars. I knew I needed them back once I got the FD.
hoodies are $55 shipped I also have the same design on shirts. Hoodies are independent trading co. Super comfortable and shirts I use basic gildan 5000

Got the rear almost finished up today! Coilover, lower control arms / tension rods, and toe arms!
unfortunately I had one of the rear eccentrics get damaged. So, looks like I’ll be needing to order a new one from Mazda since I can’t find a lockout kit.
cleaned up some bracing and splash shields and spent some time with a Brillo pad on the intake to clean it up.
mall that’s really left to install for a my SS brake lines and I’ll be back on the road!
