i am excited re you going single. sometimes it is hard to turn the page but in your case the page was, sort of, turned for you. we all look forward to another chapter in your FD journey.

you have 3700 cc of gross fuel and 3145 cc net at 85% duty cycle. that is .83 of a gallon or 5.27 pounds per minute. at an AFR of 10.0 that is 52.7 pounds of air per minute or 395 rotary rwhp. your new turbo can make over 500.

i think it makes good sense to have fuel for your max air. significantly better atomization is an added bonus. an EFR8374 should have a minimum of 4800 gross injector deliverability.

your 255 fuel pump is good for 3091 cc per minute at 20 psi. if you have the "high pressure" 255 3215 is the number. this is before line loss and is measured at 13.5 V.

another chapter in the "It Never Ends" book.

Thanks! I'm going to get the motor built FIRST then see where I am fuel system wise. That's a LONG way down the road.

Again, I'm not looking to max out this turbo, I want response and I want something useable. I don't need 500hp that will just fry my tires.

Hoping to get some time to do some SANDING this weekend.

8374 kit is ORDERED! Lord knows when it will be here.

I also have a dyno appointment soon, going to try and dyno the car as-is before the primary turbo finally goes. Hope it doesn't get dramatic on the dyno

Also bought PAINT on Friday, will make a post later about that, need to get pics.

It's all going on in here! Nice updates. Looking forward to seeing paint pics!

I am in the same boat and bought an iwg 8474 kit from turbosource a few months back. The iwg systems are so nice and compact, should be a good reliable option.

Nice to see you go single, can't wait to see your finished set-up.

Money saved on BOV/EWG can buy ballin inconel turbo heatshields !!

I would like to share my fuel set-up that works good for twins and single and for 400whp.

Stock pri rail with stock 550's - excellent for drivability

CJ motorsports sec rail with built in FPD and ID2000 (flow 2200 apparently) - lots of maps out there

RX7.com RP Competition Fuel Pump

This was recommended to me by Daniel Kuo who's a reputable tuner out here.

We did the 350whp tune, then I ran it through FC tweak to tone it down. The injector transition is smooth and with the built in FPD I have not felt anything weird.

From what I hear and and have seen on my current project is the factory sec fuel diffusers can break off when too much fuel is thrown at them with punched out 850cc to 1300cc. Im sure age and type of driving can play into this.

The pri diffusers have lasted with the 550 punched out to 850, maybe because they are angled.

For the sec diffuser, we break off the lower section and leave the top part in as a spacer. 1300's or whatever larger sec injectors do fine without the diffuser in the stock LIM.

Looking forward to seeing what you end up deciding on.

I bought an 8374 from Full Race back in January.
I was told last week that the 74mm wheels are currently in production and will start shipping out in a few weeks.

Lets hope that holds up.

HELL YEAH! excited to see you get this going!

Heres my latest log from a 3rd gear pull starting at 2500rpms and reached 16.5psi by 3687rpms.
Im still working on dialiing the spool better but not bad for a single

Now I gotta get you to switch to THE HALTECH goodness
but one step at a time
Steve

You'll love this setup Dale. With a mild street port, PFS, fuel step-up, and standalone boost controller, I was seeing 15psi by 3k rpm, sometimes a couple hundred RPM sooner. I didn't miss the twins for one minute. My setup is obviously a little more aggressive now, but If I was a little further toward the street side of the street/track balance, I'd say it was the perfect combo before.

Thanks Peter!

LONG way to go before the engine/turbo part of this process kicks off. But considering it will probably take a bit for the turbo kit to get here I'm glad I have it ordered.

Was fully planning to do the first part of the paint job this weekend, but there's a lot of family stuff going on so I may not have time. And I'll be out of town for work all next week.

My idea is to paint the underside of the hood first. It needs to be painted but if there's some orange peel or trash or whatnot no big whoop. I think that will be a good first test. Then if that looks good, flip it over and spray the top of the hood. Hood is nice and straight so it's not gonna need body work or anything, should just be scuff and shoot.

Yeah me too!

Few bits and pieces -

- Turbo kit has been ordered, still waiting on it.
- It's been CRAZY hot this summer, especially August, and that has postponed things. I've been able to do 30-45 minutes of outside work first thing in the morning then it's just unbearable.
- I am heading to Nashville tomorrow to stay and work at my best friend's house, we are rebuilding the engine in his RX-8. It runs, just low-ish compression, got all the parts (hopefully!) in hand so there ya go.
- Also heading to Ireland for a week in November so that will slow things down as well.
- And I've been doing daily driver work that has eaten up available weekend time.

Lots of excuses, I just need to get motivated and GO. Most likely the paint stuff will start happening first then the motor/turbo stuff will get going when the turbo arrives. I will probably pull and go through the motor to freshen things up at that time which will be a fun project.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Dale

Yeah this summer was incredibly hot in the Panhandle of Florida. Luckily I was able to air condition my garage, so never again will I sweat while I work!

Long term I would like to put a mini split in my garage but I also have a not terribly big 1-car garage. I typically work out in the driveway just for more elbow room.

Excuses, excuses

Got to Nashville last night, going to pull the RX-8 engine tomorrow morning and get crack-a-lackin'!

Did you get your turbo yet? I’m tempted to go this same route.
