Obviously the 99 spec bumper opening is smaller than the sakebomb oil cooler but I think having ducts still improves overall cooling efficiency since it'll point the air directly over the coolers. I don't have any instrumented testing but the oil temp stays very consistent during hot laps.

I've been running that battery, the Odyssey PC680, for 22 years now. It is a great way to rebalance the front of the car. Mazda engineers gave the car a near perfect 50/50 weight distribution across the front tires with the average Japanese driver sitting on the right hand side. Putting a driver on the left side shifted excess weight to the left front tire. Eliminating 11kg sitting ahead of the left front tire corrects some of that imbalance.
Now for the battery, the good news in 22 years I have only had to replace the battery once. That one replacement was my fault as I dropped a wrench across the positive and negative terminals, the wench went flying across the garage and embedded itself in the garage wall. The battery was toast, and I left the hole in the wall as a reminder. The current battery has been in the car for 12 years. So, for the real issues. If your car sits for more than a week between use, this battery does not have enough reserve capacity to run the cars electronics, ie the alarm, for more than a week. I keep a charger capable of maintaining an AGM battery connected when the car isn't running. In addition there is plenty of juice to start the car most of the time unless you live in Frostbite Falls, Minnesota or Norway and you are trying to start the car after sitting in a parking lot in February. My one stranding was after the car sat over night in temperatures hovering around -15 °C.

Thanks, thats some grat info! I was not aware they are AGM units, but that means ill have to get a new charger if i swap battery. And also, the car sits longer than a week at times, and i dont have power available in the garage where i live.
BUt it will get me quite a few extra centimeters of available space for intercooling, without having to relocate the battery. Even with a SMIC i would see some gains in space.

I don't have any problems with the battery. The last time I started the car was 6 months ago and it fired up without any hesistation. Obviously, it's on a battery tender but I love the size/weight and brings back a little balance with the added weight of the vmount.

For many years my car was in a carport with no power. I bought a 5W 12v solar panel off of ebay and used this charger. I hung the solar panel on a pillar of the carport facing south and that was enough to keep the battery charged. I tried the $16 ebay all-in-one panel and it died after 3 months. Buying the panel separately seems to get you a better more weather proof panel. Although, I'm not sure if you get enough sunlight in Norway during the winter for this approach to work.

I moved the PC 680 to the trunk, on the passenger side... getting those batteries out of the engine bay heat helps a lot, as does a pigtail for a pug in trickle charger/maintainer.

Any updates on this awesome motor? Still on the 7670?
