CALI Grown E85 Street Car: Project BLACKADDE
So, I started this project last August thinking that I was going to leave the car at the body shop to install the RE-Amemiya ADGT widebody, and then I decided I wanted to do just a few small upgrades.
It began with wanting to port the motor to go single, run E85, completely redoing the suspension, new interior, really putting a brand new car together. I even got some nice valve stem caps. I'm hoping by posting this thread I'll get some more motivation to finish the project. I'm trying to take her to Seven Stock XII this year, but unfortunately with a full time college students budget it doesn't look like it's going to happen. So, I'm currently in the process of looking for sponsors to bring my baby to life. Ben "Karack" @ Rotary Evolution in Northern California is engine builder/tuner, and will be updating us with pictures of the engine build. We'll also be doing a battery relocation to the rear passenger bin & wire tuck of the engine harness/fuse boxes. Anyway, hope everyone enjoys the build thread. Can't wait to see the finished project! Good luck! |
Nice! What color are you going with? And lemme get some of those bushings ;)
|
What were the winning numbers? I want to double check my numbers... :bigthumb:
|
Looking good can't wait to see it done!

Deciding between Triple Black, midnight purple ii, or opal black. The last 2 are from GTR's. |
Very purple :D!
The build looks GREAT, you'll love that exhaust setup and clutch :icon_tup: Mucho Beaucoup bucks spent, you may have more cashola into your build then I do  If you need any parts powder coated a nice purple, let me know and I'll set you up with my guy in Texas :) Also, I'll PM you later about some engine internal info. |
so your not in PA?! i wanna see this beast!
|
Sounds like a great build, especially for a college student! It sounds like you are into modding and might ge tired of driving a purple car, so I would suggest going with a more subtle OEM purple. Midnight Pearl from the 95-96 NSX is a beautiful color that transforms based on light between blue/purple/black. I can only think of one or two purple FDs and I don't think anyone has utilized this color yet (correct me if I'm wrong). Check it out...

I'm not trying to crap up your thread, so let me know if you want me to take the pictures down. Either way, can't wait to see the finished product! |
niiice... ben built my shit, he does a helluva job. maybe ill stop by n check it out some time, looks like its goin to be a good turn out.
when do you plan on taking it? |
Opal Black man, so you and I can be nissan pearl buddies!
Your build list is looking awesome. Can't wait to see some progress pictures :) |
very nice stuff!!!
|
You wanted wheels?
What kind do you want? |
can't wait for more updates
|
Thanks everyone, I can't wait to finish it as well.

What kind do you want? Not sure yet on the wheels. I'd like SSR SP1, Work Meister S1 3pc, ..... We'll see what the budget has to say about that. |
I'm afraid the Opal black only came on the Spec-V GTR in Japan. You won't get it here in the states.
http://www.madwhips.com/upload/image...33-800-600.jpg mmmm :) I'm curious of more people's impressions of the AtomicRex kit, once you get that going - definitely post up a review please! I'm on the fence about it. |
I'll let you know Carol. I'm hoping Gordon's assessment of "Better than any of my BMWs or any Porsche I have owned or even my Ferrari." is dead on. I'm really looking for that go-kart feel.
Gordon, thanks for the praise. I know I'm going a little over board with the new interior stuff, but if I'm making everything else brand new; why not go all out?!?! haha |
looks like all of the parts are coming together nicely, looking forward to more updates.
|
WOW. lots of money invested cant wait to see it finished
whats your time frame |

Ben, should be posting pics up soon of the tear down on the engine. I also talked with Laura @ Rotary Aviation and I should have my apex seals by monday.

It always starts off that way, unfortunately it never ends up being that way. I remember back in the day when I just wanted to do wheels and a drop. Well, $30,000+ later I still don't have a drop and I am on my 5th set of wheels. Mmmmm the joys of car modifications.
And just to show some eye candy. 99 spec turn lamps courtesy of Ari. http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p...l/DSCF4942.jpg http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p...l/DSCF4944.jpg |

Ohhh niceeee |
Those 99 spec tails set you back just a little bit......dealing with Chris and Ari is great b/c they have everything in stock :)
|
Just got my Apex Seals in, and ordered a few other things from Ray that should be here in 2 days. =D
Ben said he'd be tearing the motor down this week, so hopefully we'll see some progress on the motor in a few days as well. 7 stock is so soon. :bj: http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p...l/DSCF5030.jpg |

Ari hooks it up too. :icon_tup: I still have trouble pronouncing his name even after he tells me how to say it. (R-E) ??? or (Air-E) ? |
Oooo...I'm lovin' the build! Looks like it's coming along very nicely. What made you decide to run E85? I've heard mixed reviews so I'm just wondering...
|
It's readily available in my area. Sacramento has 51 stations right now. :icon_tup:
http://e85prices.com/california.html I'm redoing the whole car as well, and shooting for big numbers, so upgrading everything was going to happen anyway. Running E85 is only going to benefit rotary users compared to annoyance of changing our oil all the time due to contamination. What are some negative effects you've heard, Riz? |
Why don't you just get new HKS coilovers.. as they are not that hard to get here. I have some decent discounts on HKS Stuff too if you want me to check.
|
Miata_mx5, I was thinking of going with some new HKS, but I really don't like how high the spring rates are. I really prefer to find a setup that is 10kg/8kg, but if all fails I'll try out the HKS Hipermax III Sports. 12/10 just seems to stiff though. IDK..... I'm going to pm you here in a few days after my next paycheck... I might need you to get me some SSR's or Works if you can.
Bryan, found me a nice low mileage pair of Quantums, but I can get a brand new set of something else for the price of those used, and that just seems a little dumb for me to do. UPDATE: The car is officially torn down to the bare shell right now. My buddy Eric came over today and gave me a hand with removing the rear subframe which will be torn apart and taken to the powder coaters. Phil... I'm stealing your idea on this one. haha Also, I ordered new pillowball joints from Ray, so those will go in after powder coating too. It's all coming along nicely. MMMMMMM...GATROADE is so tasty http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p...l/IMG_2887.jpg I also got a nice shot of the carbon fiber under tray. :) http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p...l/IMG_2891.jpg Also notice the nicer pictures. I went out in bought a D90 SLR today for my trip to Thailand. This means nicer build photos too. :icon_tup: |
Hey, really sorry to thread jack, but where did you pickup those stock parts (mainly the door handles?)
Going to be a fun project, bump from a fellow Cali |
WOW. lots of money and time invested ,a car like that is my drean .
|
Sure, anytime man.
I can call more shots on SSRs since i used to work for them after all and you can bet you will get a good deal from me. |
Just received my pillowball joints from Ray Crowe. I also got my 3 piece aluminum sway bar in, which is going off to the anodizers to be customized.... guess what color? haha
If anyone needs these polyurethane swaybar mounts let me know. I won't be using them. $69 http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p...l/DSCF5082.jpg After I got the rear subframe off I took everything apart, boxed it up, and now it's going off to the powder coaters. When I get them back I'll be pressing in the new bushings and pillowballs joints. Brand new suspension ... I can't wait. Now to decide on some coilovers. http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p...l/DSCF5081.jpg |
Gitty up!
What are your intentions for the car and what kind of power do you intend to make? |
i gotta stop by Ben's and check this out! looks good

What are your intentions for the car and what kind of power do you intend to make? No real goals other than to have FUN building up a car. It's hella fun to tear a car apart, just to put it back together 10x better than what it was. I will be taking it to car shows, and trying to get some magazine coverage, but I did this JUST FOR FUN....going to hang out with buddies, bbq, drink, and chill at the shows is what its all about.

Moto Tek, look into the Zeal's that Gmonsen is running, if you PM him I'm sure he'll be happy to tell ya all about that ;)
Hardhitter, I have a few more sets of door handles trickling in from Japan, if you (or anyone else) is interested shoot me a PM :icon_tup: |
Your project looks expensive! Looking forward to seeing more progress pics :) Who makes that undertray?
-Dan |
I love that spec V and the NSX color. If I ever get a chance to all out repaint another FD, I think I'd definitely go with the spec V opal color.
|
+1 for Endless coilovers, that's what I am going to try to replace mine with.
|
nice meeting you man... get this done so we can go have a photoshoot with the rest of the locals

Small update. Apexi GT Spec Exhaust. Thanks to Dial8 for hooking it up. :icon_tup:
I can't wait untill she's running again. This exhaust should set some alarms off at school. I put in some sponsorship requests to a few select businesses. Hopefully, I'll be hearing from them soon. http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p...Snapshot-1.jpg http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p...Picture009.jpg |
I remember running the Apex GT before I went to a custom 4", the thing was loud as hell, but I loved the note on it. Good sounding exhaust imo, I'll keep an eye on your build.
|
aahhhhaaaaaa..... get this done so we can roll!!!!

UPDATE: The downfalls of building a car from the ground up. I had to pick up a new DD as the F250 was killing me on gas. I've already got the mod bug for the bimmer, trying to wait until I at least get the FD back on the road.
Black on black. http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p...l/SDC10051.jpg I got some fake wood. That's bawlin. haha http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p...edl/488009.jpg V6 FTL! http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p...edl/488007.jpg |
