BUILD THREAD: 13B, Twin T04E - Ground up!
As some may know I have been deployed in Afghanistan for about a year now. Before I left for deployment I tore the FD down and sold almost everything on it. This was in preparation for an LSX swap… hold you’re boos.
After reading Howard Colemans thread/arguments on keeping the rotary (in great detail)(Also a little Ironic that I was able to purchase his turbo system) I made the decision to stay rotary and 13B at that. So over the course of the last year (while dodging bullets, RPG’s and IEDs) I have managed to purchase the following parts, and prepare myself for the largest build I have ever attempted. BODY/LIGHTING -Shine “FEED” Front Bumper, Sideskirts (PWCF), Front Fenders, Rear Over-Fenders, Bumper Protectors -RE A Replica GT3 Wing -Painted BB with Fresh Paint in Engine Bay -Ganador Super Mirrors -RE-A Type H11 Sleek Headlights -eBay 99spec OEM Style Turn signals ENGINE -Short Block – Fresh Rebuild, All OEM Seals, Street-Port -Bonzai Oil Pan Brace -Bonzai OMP Block Off Plate -Polished Rebuilt Alternator -Ceramic Coated Water Pump Housing -Ceramic Coated Thermostat Housing W/ AST Delete -Polished Water Pump -Low Mileage Coils w/ wires -Greddy Elbow Cut to 3” -New Engine Harness and Ignition Harness -Polished UIM and TB -Noltec Motor Mounts on Steel Arms -Ceramic Coated GZ LIM -Unorthodox Pulley Set -Twin T04E Turbo system by Howard Coleman FUEL SYSTEM -CJ Motorsports Fuel System (850CC, 1600CC) Aeromotive FPR ETC. -Twin Denso Fuel Pumps with standalone wiring - (-08) Feed Line -Aeromotive Fuel Filter -All AN Fittings -Stock Return Line -Full FJO 100% Methanol AI, Fuel Pump, Weldon FPR, 2 x 700CC Injectors, 5 Gallon JEGS Tank COOLING -Custom Vmount Intercooler -Koyo N-Flow Radiator -CWC Dual Mocal Oil Coolers EXHAUST -5Zigen Dolphin Tale Exhaust -Straight Midpipe -Twin 3inch Vband Downpipes DRIVETRAIN -ORC Twin Plate Clutch -Rebuilt USDM Transmission -RE-A Short Shifter -Kaaz LSD at 66% locking SUSPENSION/BRAKES/WHEELS -Unobtanium Bushing Set -Stance Coilovers -Poly Sway Bar Mounts -Cross Drilled/Slotted Rotors from Fritz -Hawk HPS+ Pads -Enkei RPF-01 Wheels 18X10.5 on all 4 -RP Strut Bar -6 point Chromalloy Roll Cage, Custom -RP Toe Link/Trailing Arms ELECTRONICS/TUNING -Apexi PowerFC + Commander -Dual Loggable EGT Sensors with FJO Box -FJO Wideband Analysis System -HKS Twin power ignition w/harness -DEFI Gauges in FlyRX7 Pod (Water Temp, Oil Temp, Boost) -DEFI Link Controller -GM 3Bar w/ Bonzai Harness -Blitz SBC-I Color Boost Controller -Greddy Auto Timer/Harness INTERIOR -Mazdaspeed Cluster (Reprogrammed by Ramy to indicate MPH) -Nardi 330MM Deep Corn Suede Wheel -Works Bell Short Hub -NRG V 2.0 Quick Release -Dash Panels wrapped in Carbon Cloth -Complete Tan to Black swap -FEED weighted Shift Knob -New Shifter Boot/E-brake Boot -JDM armrest to replace ashtray STILL TO COME -Nitto NT555R II Tires -FEED Turn Lens Covers -Shine Carbon Canards, Undertray, “FEED” Hood, and “Street” Diffuser -ABS Delete Kit -Stoptech BBK w/ 99 spec rear calipers -OS Giken Superlock LSD 1.5 Way -Seats (will likely be Recaro) -Atomic Rex Manual Steering Rack + Electronic Steering Column -T56 or TREMEC T5 Transmission Conversion The Build should begin promptly on my return, first week in June. The car is currently in Body/Paint having the nice Shine “FEED” style kit installed. I post this now (before I begin), hoping/requesting any feedback positive or negative that you may have. This will be the last month I can make revisions or add parts to an already complex build. If you see anything I may have missed please let me know, I have been as thorough as possible over the year data logging and ordering parts. Keep in mind the car will be driven once in a while on the street, but mostly as a track toy. -SIMON |
Just get home safe, enjoy your leave, spend time with friends and family and hope you don't get deployed again anytime soon. Take a shit-ton of pics during your build also! :)
By the way, impressive list of parts ya got there. I'd kill for a lot of those items. Mike |

sweet list. I've been working on my own suspension stuff, and one thing you might want to consider is replacing is the oem "ball type" bushing. I don't know if that bushing type is included in the unobtanium bushing set, but I know it's not included in a lot of aftermarket bushings (I couldn't find any aftermarket companies which even make them). It's just one thing to keep an eye out for because you are swapping out all the rest of the bushings anyways, no sense in reusing an old one!
|
Wow good for you man! I was wondering who got the turbos.
|
Ok so I've been back since last friday night! Havn't got very much done yet but here is a little teaser of some work I was able to accomplish today.

are you sure that's going to fit?
|
Fit what, the engine bay?
It's a used turbo kit from Howard Coleman. I'm sure it will fit just fine. |
Oh I forgot you bought his kit. Nevermind. it's getting late :)
|
Hmmm all those parts look familiar... I cant wait to see it all come together... I hope you get to enjoy that motor like I never did...
Chris |
hey Simon, good luck with your build bro! i remember battling with you for some of chris's parts. i'll be coming home for a short leave next month and hopefully will get to get some of my things installed. looks like a great list, can't wait to see your progress.
later, mark |
First off we all appreciate your service and sacrafice to our country. Thanks
sencond, what are the specs on those turbos and Could you take some more detailed pics of the manifold and turbo setup. Thanks |
Oh so you're the one that bought his custom kit. I would have done dual GT25's with internal gates but I can't question him as he knows way more then me and he also saved my from throwing in a supercharged LS3. I was already searching for a wrecked Cadillac. Thanks HC!
|
looks great! May have to meet up with ya next time I'm in the springs to visit my cousin who's a bigger rotor-head than I am.
Thanks for serving also man, appreciate it. |
Thanks for the comments everyone.
Having some big troubles getting CJ Rail kit and Injectors to fit correctly with the GZ LIM. So I am stuck there right now. |
troubles how? elaborate please.
|
The Secondary Rail Mounts/Bolts will not fit with the primary rail on with fittings attatched.
Also the Secondary Rail mounts seem to tall as the injectors are not large enough to fit snuggly into the manifold and the rail. I am not sure if somehow I was sent the V1 Rail system from CJ as it states that the V2 rail system was redesigned to accommodated aftermarket LIM's. I am waiting to talk to them on monday about it. |
Hey, whose engine stand adapter is that? That looks familiar LOL.
That thing looks damn good Simon. I didn't open a lot of the packages when they got to the house, not to get a good look at what you got anyway. Looks good! Can't wait to see it finished, and take it for a spin on the track myself LOL.

Josh Skoog, he's got an old first gen and two second gens last I knew, he's also got an s2000 and some other piles that he drives when he doesn't feel like putting miles on the others. One of the second gens has 250+k on the clock on the original motor too, I'll tell him to look you guys up.

Ok been doing some some sand blasting and bushings this week. The rotors are just temporary but I thought I would give them a once over on the blaster, results were amazing.

Backyard is a result of what happens when a Portuguese Redneck, A Jamaican and a Asian guy all live in the same house. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...1/P7020059.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...1/P7020060.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...1/P7020061.jpg Should have the suspension etc. done by next week, and will start electrical, interior and engine. Then the car goes to paint! |

I really like how those calipers came out! I wish I'd had a sandblaster on hand when I did mine. I did blast my suspension arms and they obviously looked just like yours. Take my work for it though man, clearcoat them or paint them or something before you put them back on the car. I'm thinking about taking mine back off to blast them again and cover them with a coating of some kind because they pretty much attract dirt at this point.
And if you don't have a drill press, you can use sockets and a press like I did to change my bushings. I just took them to my shop on Pope AFB at about 4am one morning LOL. I'm loving those RE-A headlights too, even the incomplete way they are right now lol. And you sure did redneck it up on that back yard huh? You weren't joking LOL. Tell Z to stop watching World Cup and get to work on your car lol.

Tell Z to stop watching World Cup and get to work on your car lol. Mine?? YES!!!! LOL Yeah I was already talking to Z about clear coating all the suspension arms, I already bought a press and arms and the appropriate sockets. Kellen didn't tell you I already stole your tires and replaced them with my old ones.... hmmmm I do love the headlights, you should see it with the bumper and covers on, it lines up perfect |
I agree with you guys, blasting is fun as shit haha, just watching all the old dirt and scum come off and starting fresh. Yeah.
Good idea on coating the arms. I might have to do mine again and have him clear them haha. Also, when I was swapping my bushings I kinda bent one of the arms. I bent it back and then took it over to NDI shop (Non-Destructive Inspection) and they x-rayed it for me, I still have the x-ray LOL. No, she didn't tell me you stole my tires already. DRAT! Glad they're lining up for you, very seldom does that happen for me haha. I still want a set of those, I want the ones with the hole for air flow though, mmmmmmm. I'd take the ones you have too though haha. So classy looking. Actually, I'll trade you the tires for the headlights, it's just about an even swap actually LOL. |
Jealous that you bought Howards setup, I've always been a fan of it! Is Howard moving on to something new?
I like everything about your build list except the sleek lights, I'm a pop-up fan. Make sure you post lots of pics, can't wait to see it come together. |
Great build man and thanks for your service! Can't wait to see this done!

Where did you get the lights? I don't remember if you told me before. And I'm pretty upset that I didn't test those for you too like Zico and I did with the turbos. LOL

So some setbacks last night, it looks as if a tornado has come through the backyard and destroyed all my hard work, thats what happens when you abandon ship for the night and go to the casino.... |
I still have that fancy smancy carbon widebody kit :) since your makings everything so blingtastic!!! Can't wait to see this thing all together, I'm living through you right now.
Chris |

Damn, Howard has some serious shit going on. I've only read part of the first page but I love that manifold. Very different than anything I've ever seen before.

Any way got the rear-end back together today. Also took some photos of the stripped interior, and fuel pump cover. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...1/P7130085.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...1/P7130084.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...1/P7130083.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...1/P7130090.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...1/P7130088.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...1/P7130087.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...1/P7130086.jpg |
Sand blasted the piece behind the rotor too huh? LOL looks good. And Zico is right, that steering wheel is kickass. I might have to try to steal that when I get back. LOL Did you get the suspension stuff clear-coated? Also, what's up with the wiring there for the fuel pump?
I think you're gonna love those coilovers too. It feels like almost no roll around a corner. Did you ever ride in mine? |
wow man, awesome parts list, and looking really good, this is an inspiring build for sure.
cant wait to see how everything turns out, please post lotsa pics what are your power goals for the car? good luck, will be keeping a close eye on this thread:icon_tup: |

I am going to wait to clear coat the rear suspension stuff for when I decide to replace the diff, also I want to pull the rear sub frame at that time and power wash/sand blast everything else. I did ride in your car with the stances, I agree that I will like them, if I don't swap over to the Ohlins.
