Dont't worry about the build time - it's on average 5 to 10 years for most of us... lol

Thanks guys!! I am hoping that by the end this is a pretty special build, and should hopefully be up there with the best of them in the UK.
I think I am touching 6 years now so I following suit with the average at the minute

Not posted for a little while but got a few updates.
Got some of the carbon arch lining covers from the marketplace on here and these look great against the yellow of the engine bay. I will upload the photos later as I don't have them to hand at the moment.

Then I sent all the subframes and control arms off for powder coating and got them back. I went for satin black on the subframes and anti roll bars/sway bars and an anthracite on the suspension arms.

I did think they would be removing the final bushes but they didn't so that is a job for me in a few days, hopefully won't take me too long.

Today I started to fit bushes and replace the boots for the ball joints, clean and re-grease those at the same. Not too much left to do before these can start to get refitted to the car. Just waiting on some new rear wheel bearing and hubs and will reuse the fronts for now until I order new hubs for those.

Just a few more SuperPro bushes to fit, the Sakebomb Garage pillowballs and the hub assemblies and they will all be refitted. I may even start putting the subframes etc back on prior to everything being ready, but we will see.

Awesome build so far! Love all the detail plus the fact you're 'doing it right' by using genuine parts. This is really counterculture to American jdm car culture right now imo. Much respect from CA!

This car seems to be built for 'go' instead of 'show' like Johnny's hard parked 7. I can't wait to see it up and running and hopefully you plan to do some track exhibitions.

GL!

I don't think it was who your pop shot was aimed at Paul, but if so I wouldn't call Jonny Grunwald a hard parker - he's been nothing but helpful with me over the phone and email for others looking to get TCP Magic in the states, and his builds over the decades on quality and execution speak for themselves whether they're parked at SEMA or on a racetrack

Thanks for sharing the details Briggsy - eying my own suspension overhaul that I have seen in one-dimensional lists of parts to buy

Seeing your undertaking in three-dimensions really outlines how far I have to go

Keep up the great work

Other than magazines, my only experience with JG has been on the RX forums where at one time he claimed he couldn't afford to buy a trailer. Just had me scratching my head (ultimately thinking BS) because you somehow see his same 'projects' every year in the most successful automotive publications with at least another $50k+min spent on an all out 3-rotor this time, etc blah blah and I've never seen a single track time or notable achievement of any kind posted anywhere. As far as I can tell, it's not unlike Dahm and Mazzei where there's no clear propose other than lining there own pockets, generating clicks or to say that they 'did' or 'could.' To me it would've been like building the SaturnV and never launching. Previous generations strove to accomplish things greater than themselves and uplift a collective humanity, whereas today's generation does things for clout and their own self- preservation / perpetuation.

Vehicles are meant to serve a function / purpose and I know for some people it's the act of working on something which is the reward or participating in car show has social value but this whole wannabe time attack style thing doesn't jive. The mere fact that someone builds a car like that (free country, you do you) only to hard park it in wannabe videos or at sema completely contradicts what time attack is as defined by actual Japanese enthusiasts in Japan. And this isn't some half-hearted attempt at gate keeping, far from it actually, I just think there's needs to be a standard set for what "is" and what "isn't" and JG's TCP FD couldn't be further from true JDM culture. I'm not trying to be too harsh or critical but just call it like I see it.

couple selected excerpts from a recent dogfight (not that they're the definitive authority on authentic car culture as related to Japan):
… The builds here have a distinct character to them, which, at its core, is generated from a lack of ego. Japan rejects the individualism that is so prevalent in the west and instead allows their loudest achievements to often go undiscovered, woven humbly into the tapestry of the community. Personal accomplishment takes precedence over publicity. Time spent clout chasing and attention seeking is, by contrast, channeled into a pursuit of mastery and excellence that finds expression in unmatched dedication.

… Parts aren’t chosen because of how much social credit they’ll bring but for a genuine need for improvement or personal aesthetic. Above all, the cars are used for what they were built for.

ps- If I may be so bold as to say that car culture nepotism in LA is crazy strong. Connect some dots and consider it. Sorry to derail this thread.

Interesting take on doubling down Paul - not sure I understand where you are coming from

Maybe what is missing is context - I have seen your RX-8, but never your current third generation RX-7?

Care to share with the RX-7Club community pictures and specs of your own FD3S exemplifying how an FD3S should be done in 2024?

Looking forward to seeing it - who doesn't love an all things pure JDM Tsukuba inspired track FD?!

@Briggsy you wouldn't happen to still have the original RE-A hood that came on the car, would you?
