the "backyard engineering" project
I'm all about originality, every car ive ever had my hands on ive restored to stock, and perfection, but my hat is off to you sir, this car is awesome, i just got my fd and this thread alone is my motivation to keep it. I might be copying your two tone also, sorry. But it looks awesome. Amazing work.
Hi everyone, sorry for the lack of updates. I had to break the car for parts as my parents were moving away and i needed to put a roof over my head. However i am now a proud home owner (WITH LOTS OF SPACE TO BUILD A GARAGE AND START AGAIN)
i will be back with another project when i can and thanks for the kind words

well i haven't been on here in a while, heres a little update to cover the last 4-5 years since i had to break this car to buy my first house. So stage 1 was buying a house, which i did in a little place called droitwich in the UK.

after owning a few MX5's (miata's to you guys) i finally got to a point where i could afford another FD, she was cheap and the paint was terrible amongst other problems but she ran ok so the deal was done

i got deep in to building her as a drift car and did a few drift days

even built a trailer to tow all my ****

then i got married

then i crashed

After thinking about what to do for a few weeks, toying with the idea of taking it off the road and just towing it to events or re shelling...................another shell was purchased!

With the shell being so clean it started out as just finishing what someone else had begun and make a very clean and fast road car. After really struggling to match the colour and me always getting carried away it very quickly spiralled out of control.

These next photos span around 3-4 months

this was 1 body shops best attempt

this was as close a match i could get after 3 attempts

then the unthinkable happened

rear rotor lost all compression, so a new engine was sourced and the real fun began, time to build something that i could be proud of. In the same way this thread started out as something i have had a hand in every stage, something i have done 99.9% of the work on and something when someone says "oh, where did you buy that" i can reply with.........
i made it.
Now living in the house we did this would have been very difficult to do on the drive having to constantly fight against the weather, so the time came to move

NEW GARAGE!! and not just any garage, this thing is 17 meters long.

so here is the final montage, the only thing i haven't done on this build is paint the bonnet (i painted the rest but there was a reaction on the bonnet i couldn't stop) and map the engine.
She is street ported single turbo with 368hp at the wheels at only .8BAR. for now this will have to do as the house needs a lot of work and that is enough for me to enjoy some track days before i can afford to spend money on a clutch and mapping for more boost!

So the next stage is to attend a track day at Silverstone on the 20th of feb and basically see what breaks first, if nothing breaks then what can we make better!
My big plan is to keep the car and just enjoy and develop it as i go, i am lucky enough to have somewhere to keep it now if things get rough and as i am sure most of you are aware life can always surprise you (babies)
I am trying my best to delay that as much as possible by buying the wife a new cat every time she mentions it but we have three now and i don't think i can handle any more.

Congrats on marriage! The car looks good, I like how it turned out, and the add ons for the oil cooler intakes. I like that garage too lol. And you can get several more cats before the money starts getting comparable to having a kid haha.
