I completely agree. Getting those old ***** and all their accessories off and out of there is like 90% of the work of the single turbo swap.

I feel like that's bulk of the work, removing all the misc. stuff.

The long awaited single turbo harness by LMS-EFI. Thanks Chris!

Hopefully some major update soon!

Minor update:

Picked some tools awhile back (just taller jack stands, craftsman tool box extension, and some pry bars)

3/17 - decided to be productive and removed the double throttle from the UIM

I didn’t have any issue about stripping the screws, but unfortunately I ended up snapping the screws. I had to whip out my trusty deemed to drill out the screw.

Looks like the TB to UIM gasket was the original paper one. Get a new metal one from Mazda and you won't have to fool with it ever again. Make sure to get all the old gasket material off!

Also you may have the paper ISC gasket too, that's worth getting the newer metal one.

As soon as I removed the TB from the UIM, the tb gasket came apart in a few pieces. No lie those paper gasket are a PITA to clean off. I do have paper gasket for the ISC, AWS and the AWS tube, more fun times for me lol.

Get a Dremel and one of these -

That thing will erase paper gaskets like magic. Scrape off the big chunks then get the little bits with the Dremel flap wheel.

There was typo on my picture post, I didn't mean to say deel, I meant to say dremel. Definitely going to pick a flap wheel this weekend, no more manually using a scraper and gasket remover to get stubborn sticky paper gasket off.

Minor Update:

I realized the FFE mount was set too low and it is not clearing the wastegate from the subframe. Long story short, I had to pull the motor slightly higher to adjust the mounts.

After the adjustment:

Time to install the wastegate springs:

Bolt the wastegate to the manifold

In the end I had to rotate the wastegate and remove the heater core line.

Luckily Turblown makes heater core relocation line.

Got more new parts: Revo Tune thermostat housing, RE-Amemiya Dolphin Tail exhaust, and Pineapple racing idler pulley

Another thing I found while rising the motor up was...

For the longest time, I thought I had a mazda reman... I guess I was wrong, still relatively low mileage pineapple racing motor. I do believe it may have mild street port.

New thermostat installed and new revo tune thermostat housing

Yup, RE-Amemiya midpipe that matches to the 90mm dolphin tail. 80mm taper on the downpipe side then opens up to a 90mm.

The exhaust is pretty straight thru.

I like the progression of this build. The single turbo really simplifies the boost issues and of course makes more power. I own a stock twin car as well as a single turbo car and had an LS3 swap previously. I found I missed the low end after getting spoiled by the LS3 and it’s low end torque and the twins low end and responsiveness.

I ended up switching my single turbo car car to an EFR 8374 but have yet to drive it under boost. I am looking forward to regaining the low end. It makes for anmuch more enjoyable street car when you don’t have to wring it’s neck to get the power out of it. At least that’s my preference with street driving. It’s also why I abandoned Japanese bikes years ago and went to a Ducati L twin that has all that massive midrange torque. It’s fun on the street without bringing u wanted attention to yourself.

Good of luck with the build. These cars are forever projects if you haven’t realized it by now.
Mira hard drawing a line in the sand where to stop modifying. There are just endless possibilities and money pits if you get caught up in it.

Thanks, it’s been more than year, I’m just working on it slowly and when I have time on the weekend. I did suffer a few set back from few mental lapse on my part and hitting my head against the jack stand last weekend. So I’m definitely taking this build slowly.

On the the other news, I mounted sbg large dual oil cooler just to find out that it would not clear the re-Amemiya style bumper.

Sbg 25row oil cooler mounted
