94 All OEM Build

94 54,000 mile chassis
5speed
The plan
1.Convert to hardtop
2.Color change from MB to BB
3. 20K mile engine and drive train
4. All black interior with mint tan carpet/seats
5. 99 spec plateless front bumper or C-West
6. No rear wing/antenna/wiper

Here's pics of car as purchased

It could be me, but an all black interior with tan carpet/seats seems somewhat contradictory

Nice MB example tho

It's just me. This will be my personal FD and I have always preferred the '94 option of all black interior with tan carpet and tan seats....I prefer the contrast. I realize that most FD folks prefer all black but again this build is just for me.
Chassis went to the paint shop yesterday.

The black and tan looked good in 94+. It's classy. Liked it on my MB. Looking forward to progress.

I think if I were to attempt a full color change with a roof replacement I would be going for whatever color to Chaste White.
I've owned a black FD. Unless you keep it in a vacuum sealed environment... It's going to be a pain in the butt.

I certainly agree that CW is a great color but for "me" a BB slick top FD is the best looking sports car ever made.

I can attest that keeping a black FD clean isn't easy, but when they're clean----- man do they look good

While dash is out I fitted the LRB aluminum defrost vent plate. Fits just fine, well designed.

Progress at the paint shop.
Hard top conversion is completed and car prepped for primer.
The BB paint should go on in a few weeks but you never know....good painters are always late....you just have to be very patient with your painter.

Well stated Jacob. I delivered car to paint shop on June 15 so it may 6-7 months in-and-out.

Looking good Tom, I've mulled over the whole 'convert to hardtop' idea on my BB '95 car...... I don't need the paint work so will probably just convince myself to enjoy the sunroof

Didn't know you had a build thread for your car! I'm looking forward to seeing it come together. Let me know if you ever need help when you get it back.

Hey Johnny.....I think it going to look as good as yours.....I may just put it back together without the engine and just leave it in the garage TO LOOK AT.

Yes!
I curse every time someone posts a nice Black R1 FD on the forum (prefer '93 interior/dash), but I never actually want to own another Black car (maybe if I had a live in detailer).

I like the red seats and red carpet for the contrast in the BB FD though. The Beige... I just can't...

Thanks for the reply. Always good to hear the many member preferences and as they say "if we all liked the same color combos it would be a boring FD world". I like a red interior too but mint red is so hard to find. This interior will be all black with Tan seats/carpet, my personal preference.

BB/tan or CW/red were my preference when I was looking for an FD, I ended up with a BB. The tan interior don't get a lot of love on here, but it's a different story at car shows.

Looking forward to see the end result.

Looks like they're doing a great job in the spray shop .

I was never a fan of the montego blue until I owned one, now I quite like it. Cant really beat brilliant black if the paint is good & clean, though .
