93 FD3S Stock body to Feed Widebody
A few months ago I decided I wanted to change up the looks of the car some. Stock body just wasn't cutting it for me anymore. My buddy had hit me up saying he had some Shine auto FEED style aero laying around so Since it was local and a good price I decided to scoop that up. Even though I think this kit is kinda over used now, I can make it my own. Working at a body shop as a Painter made this make over a little easier. Little did I know what kind of battle I was getting myself into.
Some pics I snapped while test fitting the fenders and bumper Which fit surprisingly well. Cudos to Ken at Shine auto for making quality products.
The bumper was a little rough around the edges as you can see. There was tons of blemishes to attend to.

After everything was lined up and I was happy with the fitment I figured I'd start with the biggest part of this widebody transformation... The Rear flares. I've never done to terribly much cutting and welding so The thought of learning on my FD was a little nerve racking. However I think it turned out ok.

So After I got the quarters installed. It was time to focus on the bumper. It needed some TLC.
That stupid oval hole right in the middle of the bumper drove me completely nuts. I hated it. So I got rid of it. It really wasn't hard to shave. I just scuffed it well and put a small sheet of fiberglass behind it with tape and poured resin in the hole until it was almost completely filled. When that was dry I just added some filler over top and smoothed everything out.
The top of the bumper was really wavy which I absolutely did not want to have after looking at it for so long on my old 93 bumper. So I hand blocked all the wavy spots and wiped a light coat of filler to smooth everything out and re blocked. Also there was this hard edge all the way around the bumper which seemed to be from the mold. Nothing a little 180 and 320 couldn't fix.
With all the filler work on this bumper I definitely needed a good priming... 5 coats.
Looks SOOOOO much better with out that stupid hole.... SO much better.

So for the hell of it I put a mill gauge on my my car at work to see how much paint was on the car already since I know it was been resprayed before. Surprisingly 27.3 mills on the hood and the rest of the car was about 20. That is INSANE. an average paint job is about 6mills. It fully explained the paint cracks I had in the hood roof and trunk. So this meant. I had to strip all 3 panels to bare metal, which is no fun task. 80 grit, 180 grit, an air sander and 15 hours later I manged to get it all done. It is such a slow process because you really have to be careful when stripping not to do more damage than good. Just my luck tho After I'm done I noticed really old hail damage. Right after stripping All bare metal was etch wiped and hail damage was taken care of.
You can see there are about 20 layers of different Primers, sealers, paint and clear...
You can see all the dark little spots are tiny little dents from hail. when you sand with the DA flat it will not sand out where the dent is since its lower so it makes them stand out pretty easily.
While I was stripping I decided to shave my rear wiper, and both the trunk and hood washer sprayers.
As I sanded the rest of the car I decided to shave the antenna as well. I also filled in the seam where the rocker and quarter were welded and sand out all of the rock guard which was a huge pain. Very much well worth it though

After everything was sanded and I was happy with all of the body work. Tapped it up and primed away.
The Light buckets were a little rough and didn't fit as well with Feed aero as they did with stock body which is understandable I guess. Little bit of tweaking and sanding and they fit fine. Wiped a skim coat of filler on the top to fill in some tiny holes.

So it was made very clear that my Regamasters were no where near wide enough so it was time to change wheels yet again. I decided to get something a little more flashy this go round.
Even though they look polished they are actually burning black... I was hoping for a little darker but I like them. Specs are 18x10 +22 and 18x11.5 +24.

A buddy of mine was selling an RE-Amemiya carbon GT-II wing. I wanted a wing. I had originally planned to go with voltex but this deal was too good to pass up.... I had just got an offer I couldn't refuse for my RE-Amemiya light cover which I paid 100 shipped for... and sold for 400 plus shipping . So I immediately hit up my friend and got this beautiful wing for 500 bucks. Though I thought the stands were a little short so I had my good friends at Bubbletech make me some new ones that are 12 inches.
Little bit of test fitting ...
The stands came out beautiful. Bubbletech never fails to impress!!

I painted the bumper Before I painted the car because I was just learning how to paint at this point and she wanted to evaluate my skills. I didn't want to risk any customer work so I decided to paint my bumper instead. I think it came out rather nice.
At work we are using waterborne paint. In efforts to be more environmentally friendly. However that water borne paint does some weird **** as it dries...
So after It was painted I decided to mount up the canards and splitter to see how it looked.... It in fact looked so good. My girlfriend won't let me look at the splitter anymore because she thinks ill steal it from her car and use it on mine.. which I would........... Ill just steal it and make a replica when shes at work

Since the wing canards and mirrors were carbon. and the side steps and diffuser were FRP I decided just to paint everything A custom black pearl.
Since the wing was carbon and I was painting it. I still wanted a way to show off he carbon underneath so I had a brilliant Idea..... as I was painting I slapped on a sticker on the end plates and then very slowly peeled if off before clear.
The result............

Right after coming back from a 3 day class on the paint we use at our shop.. I was told I was going to paint my own car. Which was a very pleasant surprise. However It made me very nervous. I just stared painting a few months before hand jamming parts and small stuff. Then my bumper and now a while car.
On a side note here are some pics from paint school. Not to bad if I don't say so myself.
Can't even tell this one is blended.

One Friday we happened to be really slow at work. Due to me rushing all the jobs to get done to open up this window for me to paint my FD, and it was go time!
I did a spay out with grey sealer vs black sealer and man what a difference it made. I ended up going with black.
1 coat of sealer, 3 coats of color with a drop coat to make the metallic lay out nicely and 3 coats of clear.

Fresh montego blue paint has got to be one of the most beautiful colors I've ever seen. WOW
After a long wait for tires. I finally got em mounted and balanced and slapped on. Since I didn't really have the extra 700 for r888s like I planned at the time in 255 35 and 295 30 I ended up with 245 30 and 285 30 hankook v12 evos. Lucky they were in stock. Since my wheels are higher offset and these tires are a little stretched It doesn't sit as flush as I'd like. But I'll get r888's later on this year.

For whatever reason my fans stopped working and the car would get too hot while driving. So I decided to fix it and at the same time make something cool out of an issue. So I had the good people at Edge Motorsports fab me up a custom switch panel for my fans boost controller and turbo timer.
