wow very nice job! it's beautiful!

XLR8 11-17-09 11:30 AM

This build is ridiculously clean. I want to compliment you greatly on the work!!

nismo_gts4 11-27-09 03:07 PM

Wow looks great. I wish i could swap a 20b in mine but to much $$$$$$

Banzai-Racing 05-25-10 02:57 PM

Update:

We had a chance to do some break-in boost tuning on the dyno today. She put down 510rwhp and 424 TQ @ 12 psi with a very conservative tune. This was done on a Mustang dyno with 93 pump gas

We will get a few more miles on it and bring the boost up some more, as well as lean it out a bunch.

not bad at all for such a conservative tune...well done banzai

This could have been PM'ed to him, Tiger ;)

It's a limited edition RX-8...... has twin turbos from the factory.

P.S. Just kidding about that last part :D

no_more_rice 05-25-10 07:20 PM

That is a mountain of a power curve - nice work.

I honestly don't know how anyone can handle more than 500 rwhp in an FD, except at a dragstrip. Are you running a stock trans? Isn't it going to break? Have you considered a "dog box" racing transmission?

http://www.peak-performance.net/content/view/219/88/

Banzai-Racing 05-25-10 08:08 PM

We build 500+ hp cars all the time. The stock trans can hold up pretty well until after 600hp, when the torque exceeds 600 they break often. This one is freshly built and is holding up fine for now.

500rwhp is a very nice "streetable" power level as long as the suspension, tires, brakes, etc have all been addressed. We have taken care of all those areas with this car, so it is super easy to drive and a ton of fun.

mdpalmer 05-25-10 10:01 PM

We demand video of said dyno pulls :) j/k Congrats, bet that thing is a handful!!!!! Some pretty ridiculous torque for a rotary. Good stuff.

no_more_rice 05-25-10 10:18 PM

I'd rather see a video of this thing pulling a Z06

A 13b can do that easily with a single. Agree with Ipohboy, a ZR1 would be a better match.

The FD chassis should have had a factory option for the 20B but without, it makes installations like this very special. And you have built a special car.. I would keep the stock hood; it makes it that much more integrated.

Regarding the belt contact patch on the water pump pulley - expect any slippage issues?

Banzai-Racing 05-26-10 04:33 AM

Sorry no vids, we will get some the next time it is on the dyno. I didn't even think about it.

We plan on keeping the stock hood. We have also added an idler pulley since the last pics, so there would be no belt issues.

Red95FD 05-26-10 11:05 AM

If I had the money, I swear I'd have you do that to my FD. That is the ultimate RX7.

RX7 Pride for sure!

Montego 05-26-10 12:05 PM

wow nice! Hey I got a dumb question...

How come you never see 3 rotors with GT35Rs? You know quick spooling but smaller turbos. Are they not achieavable for some reason?

The reason this came about is because I was discussing with a friend a fantasy life where I would wouldn't want a HP monster (600+ RWHP). Instead I would opt for the quickest spool possible, and be perfectly happy a 3 rotor at a modest boost level.

I'm guessing this is a ~$35k upgrade with big brake kit, suspension, and beefed up transmission, isn't that about what Pettit charges? That said, you would have endless fun hunting down 911TT and Ferraris with this thing....I just saw a Ferrari yesterday with a custom plate that read "ANY?NOW". That guy needed to be humbled.

With the increased flow of a 20B, I can't believe a 35R would be efficient....

calculon 05-26-10 01:18 PM

FWIW, the smallest I've "seen" is a GT40R.

Nice! Beautiful install . Are you guys going to bring it out to the Dream Cruise this year? I thoroughly enjoyed drooling over your 'vert last year :icon_tup:.

You can do this with stock turbos, the above mentioned wouldn't even be in the same zip code against the Banzai Racing FD. :)

Rick, I will talk to Steph for you, I am sure she would love to get you this conversion for your birthday. Only problem is the rock you are going to have to buy for her birthday is going to break the bank :)

35R is just a little too small, configure two of them maybe. Room is pretty limited

We might make it up there this year, depends on the schedule at the shop.

Ryan, you need to come down for a visit. Bring the FD this time and we can retune it to 400rwhp. :)

Starfox07 05-27-10 10:09 AM

Do you guys fab peripheral port housings?

Awesome, awesome FD.

Montego 05-27-10 10:36 AM

thanks for answering guys. I'd figured it wasn't the best option since I never seen one.
