To add fuel to the fire...
The buyer's comments about these parts not being useable, I must disagree. If the parts can go together and allow the engine to run well, then I define that as being useable. Not always ideal, but useable. So yes, a turbo manifold with a crack is useable.
Oh, I found pics of a turbo manifold for sale. Let's check it out.

Wait, what's that...a crack? in a series 4 turbo manifold? NO WAY DUDE, it can't be. take a look at the pics, there are very pronounced, and normal cracks in the manifold.

While I may not have any actual relevance to either party here, I have dealt with Kevin many, many times in the past, and even though Ive never met him in person, I know he is of good character and consider him a friend. I know he would never ship something out that wasnt usable. To the OP, you got at least twice what you had paid worth of parts, and you are complaning because it was shipped to you dirty? Come on man, seriously.. If you wanted brand new parts and everything spotless and clean, cough up the money and get an engine from a high end builder like pineapple or racing beat. Kevin provides affordable rebuilds and parts for alot of the community that doesnt have the cash to go and spend $6-10k at these other places, and thats not to say that Kevins work is subpar or not acceptable in any way, but you get what you pay for. Im sure Kevin will agree with what Im saying, why should he take the time and professionally clean everything he sends out, when they are used parts that can be almost 2 decades old, and hes not making much/any profit? You act like you didnt get what you paid for or got ripped off, which just isnt the case. Im sure if there is an actual defect or malfunction in any of the parts, Kevin would be happy to work with you. But complaining because they arent clean is just assinine....

Hell, you could have easily spent $2600 worth of time defending yourself from this pukes accusations. I don't see that anything was done wrong by Kevin and i have gained a lot of respect for him lately.
And Wizzbangca, it seems VERY obvious that you are a skilled rotary engine builder/mechanic. Why didn't you just build the engine yourself to your own standards. I am sure you could have done it for less than $2600? You could have saved a lot of money and would have known it was done correctly.

Since when is a cracked exhaust manifold usable? How about cracked wide open grommets? Ok 100,000 + miles rubber will be useless. That's why I bought all new rubber stuff anyway and am shipping out the injectors for cleaning. A cracked exhaust manifold? Aw hell no. That's lame. Again, you wouldn't sell that on the forum, you definitely wouldn't accept that free, why would you expect anyone else to? The $2,600 includes usable parts, how come the exhaust manifold isn't usable? Yeah, mounts, but cracking isn't usable.
Face it--you got a good rebuild on a shortblock, and you got a ton of other parts thrown in for free. Take what you got and make it work the way it was advertised:
IT would not be a bad idea to go over a few key areas of the engine later on. These include fuel injectors (cleaning and new rubber), water pump, thermostat, etc. These parts will be in good, useable condition when they leave here, however they are original with 100+k miles on them.
You're telling everyone that putting filthy parts on a clean block, possibly getting the external part mating surfaces on the block and external parts dirty again, assuming the mating surface were cleaned, maybe even tracking the filth into some of the internal engine stuff, all good assembly practice? Yeah, sure. You just screwed yourself on the cleaning argument. Condition does not matter? Again:
Quote:
These parts will be in good, useable condition when they leave here
Also means: clean enough to assemble.
Quote:

2--clean enough to assemble? So, are you telling me that it wasnt clean enough to assemble? Then WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DISASSEMBLE ALL OF IT TO MAKE THIS THREAD? Seems to me that you dont even know what it "also means", based on your own actions and your words here. It obviously came to you assembled, and since he put all of it on that shortblock, there is no doubt that it was "clean enough to assemble", bonehead....
Looked at the apex seals through the exhaust ports, clean, seat looking. The block itself ought to run great.
The oil pan gasket leaks. Leaks pretty bad. Yeah, there are a bunch of ideas on sealing the oil pan. Everything you said affirms: you should know better than to let the engine go with a very noticeable leaking oil pan gasket. You confirmed you know how to seal the oil pan. Why is mine leaking after 25 hours of run time? I'm owned?

Will work for horsepower
I would imagine Kevin would like to make enough money to do half the work and use all new parts! But then were would those people without 6,000 to 8,000 go to get even close to a fair product. I paid three times the amount you did and i got pan gasket in a box. Everyone better hope Kevin doesent get fed up and take construction forman job. Hes got the laungauge down!

Slight digression from the topic at hand, but I can't let this go unanswered as the Kerry/Swift Boat embroglio clearly showed in 2004...

It looks like he bitch slapped you to the curb.
It looks like that only because I didn't want to pursue the matter any further, I assure you, dumba$$.
I am sure you will meet the right guy some day.
I'm sure you're barking up the wrong tree looking for a .....well, I'll just keep walking at this point...

I just don't understand how someone can pay so little and expect so much!
Hey Kevin I would like to buy a used S4 N/A door moulding from you. You mind throwing a BJ in there and maybe a trip to Disneyland?

This guy sounds like a dufis that bought my 88gxl last year. Got a clean as hell, very reliable fixed up car that had just about all the major before and after sale work done to it. The whole time he is looking at it and even after he buys it all I hear is stupid nit-picking "oh the brake fluid looks dirty!" "This car is not as clean as what you are selling it for" (3,200 for a rust free, excellent paint, excellent interior, every leakable external seal and gasket replaced plus clutch and tranny work, and relatively low milage motor & chassis (124k)).
Even after he buys it I hear about through e-mails and actually a phone call "oh I am fixing some stuff that was neglected" which in reality was dumb-*** non important crap.
And the whole time he talked about how "his was so much nicer and cleaner" then mine... So why did you buy mine douche bag? His would to have been close to show room condition and original for that to be true. GOD DAMN DUMBASS RX-7 PEOPLE!

$2600 is a felony. You stole that. I've spent way more than that in my swap, and Kevin did the work on the rebuild. It didn't come back to me looking like a 2007 year model motor, it looked like a freshly rebuilt 20 year old motor. I was 100% satisfied with the work that Kevin did on my motor, and would do business with him again. As a matter of fact, I WILL do business with him again. Hopefully it won't be that soon, but I can get a little happy on the throttle. Oh, and my manifold is cracked too, whammy.

I often wonder why these major shops like RR are messing with these kind of 'ecomony builds'.
I am by no means trying to bash kevin, I dont even know him.
He obviously has a well respected business, and enough work. But like he said. These enigines are a minimum or 15 years old. These parts only get worse. its harder and harder to find rx-7s that are actually running well. With that being said, maybe THIS is the reason why there are more and more of these types of rx-7 owners. It's not that we are all getting stupid and picky, (maybe we are) but it's that it's getting harder to get your moneys worth when buying a rotary.
I bought my first 7 in 99. I paid 2400 and it was the CLEANEST rx i've seen in a while (especially for that price). All stock and ran GREAT for the 3 years I owned it.
Bought my second one in 06. paid 4500 for it and... well you may have seen my thread...
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...8&page=1&pp=15
I feel bad for both parties in this situation.
The buyer was expecting more from a well respected builder (2600 is a little bit of change/ he did get quite a bit for that price).
And the builder techinically delivered what was stated and then some. (all business owners know that these garuntees and contracts are made to protect THE SELLER).
Maybe these motors are getting too old for these types of re-builds.
I am not trying to offend anyone, just a little objective 3rd party opinion/observation on the matter.
ps: the buyer is complaining about some real nit-picky stuff. All the periferials arent the sellers problem, but maybe they should come UN-installed.
