Asked me to ship him a carbon fiber scoot style hood. I didn't really want to ship the hood, but he asked. I struggled to find a carrier to ship the hood since it was one inch too large to not go freight. Eventually got it packed up and met an associate that was willing to push it through but had to pay a fine for the UPS store because they would be fined for mismeasuring. So I was willing to eat the $50 cost just to get the deal done and went ahead and shipped it. It arrived and he said he was surprised that it was shipped and needed a little more time to pay. Then he said in June that he was behind on bills and then his daily driver blew a head gasket, after an accident before that, and he'd have half or full payment in mid July.

July 9th he finally says that he opened it and the hood was damaged as told me that the hood had been damaged in shipping and he wanted a discount or to ship the hood back. I tell him that the hood was insured and to please contact UPS to see what can be done in claims. He doesn't want to and says he works 6-7 days a week and asked if $500 would be fine. 7/28 He asks to just pay $500 and just to call it square. I agree even though I have $220 in shipping costs tied up into it on a hood I was asking $450+ shipping but was going to work with him a bit on shipping. I really needed the money to go single so I agreed regardless. After the $450 offer he makes a couple posts on the forums and then neglects to return my PMs.

I don't know why I trust RX7 Club users more than other forums, but I rarely have issues and people on here seem reasonable. I'm not even sure this is a bad user or if he's just making a questionable decision. He seemed really polite and had good communication and it seemed to be going great until he was just gone. Unfortunate, but a couple months seems unacceptable to me and has delayed my build (the only reason for selling the hood in the first place). Unfortunate, seemed like a nice guy, but figure it fair to let others know of my experience with this buyer.

And I know it's stupid of me to ship something without payment so I'm partially to blame.

Yeah, it's unfortunate. Dipping into credit to finish this build so I can get back to working. It's quite stressful and having to cut a few corners that I'll have to revisit, but the car is getting close. Unfortunately I've had a couple bad transactions that have delayed my build for years. I can tell you this though, I'll never ship another hood again!

So,I am confused here.
what exactly does he owe you?..the total amount of the hood?
(you shipped without getting any payment at all?..)
By the way he hasn't been active since mid Sept.

he shipped the hood without getting payment first. Then, the buyer went silent. Not on the forum over the last two months, and the reason why is probably this hood. So the guy got the hood and didnt pay for it. Seller is owed the total agreed price for the hood plus shipping cost.

Yeah he owes me money for the hood. The hood is about 1" too large to be shipped not via freight which brings shipping up to $480ish. I found a UPS guy that would let me slide it if I paid the $50 fine that the store would get to mismeasure. I saw an opportunity to get the hood out for a reasonable price and he'd been begging me if I had found a carrier yet. Shipped it and he was super communicative and then a couple months pass by before he opens it and says the hood is damaged and he can't justify spending $500 on the hood and wants me to take a lower price (I think somewhere in the $350 range when I just paid ~$220 to ship it. I told him that it's insured and take it to UPS before time runs out. He doesn't want to take it to UPS to get a claim and asks if $500 is fair. At this point I figure $500 will suffice since I'm trying to go single right now and I really needed the money (only reason I sold the hood at all).

What really irks me is that he signed in a couple times and even posted after I inquired about the money and I was in the middle of swapping the motor and I just asked him directly if he was going to screw me over or not so that I can plan accordingly on whether to put a set of stock twins on or if a single turbo was in the budget. I'm still in the process of going single and actually had to open new lines of credit to get it done (dumb I know), but it's my daily and I was so close monetarily and desired the simplicity. Merry Christmas to this guy.
