Tiger Japenese **MUST READ**

Do not go near Tiger for anything.

A customer of ours bought an engine from them for his FD with out asking us first and brought it to us to have installed. Right away we checked compression on the floor and sure enough the rear rotor was blown.
So I took the engine back myself to Tiger as the customer couldn't get away from work during the week.
We unloaded the engine and the Manager Jon came out and looked at the engine I was returning and said he wouldn't take it back since I had removed the ugly wrecked RHD wiring harness. I drove 2.5 hours through Toronto traffic to get turned away because a hacked up harness wasn't on the engine!!

I told them I would go back to our shop and get the shitty harness and stuff it back on, thats the only way I could return it. So I looked through the pile of FD engines for a *good* one when I came back to exchange it.

Out of the 8 FD engines I looked at only 2 had actual compression on both rotors. They kept telling me the Cosmo RE is the same engine and there was no difference and kept pushing me to look at the 13B-RE engines.

After I went back to our shop and put the harness back on, my business partner Dan drove the complete engine back to them on a Saturday. He got to Tigers warehouse at 2:55pm. They told him they could not exchange the engine since they were closed and their workers were cleaning up for the day.
It would have been as simple as pulling the old shitty motor off and putting the engine I had checked out and had set aside on the truck which was conveiniently located right at the shipping doors.
They turned him away, again another 2.5 hour drive through Toronto wasted for absolutly no good reason.

If that wasn't enough, in the shipping area they were pressure washing dirty old scum-bag engines and immediatly shrink-wrapping them to skids ready for shippment!!

In the office I overheard one of the desk jockies talking to a customer about a 20B, he told the guy on the phone that a 20B will directly fit into his '07 RX-8 with no modifications. "Direct swap" he said.

I almost puked.

This business is the most shadiest place I've ever dealt with.

Please for the love of everything Rotary, do not do business with TIGER.

Joe

laserkei 05-23-08 04:11 PM

Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep away from those guys.

Hitokiri_Gensai 05-23-08 06:52 PM

i always thought they were shady... never delt with them and now i know i never will!

thanks for the info.

iasc300 05-23-08 11:28 PM

everything ive heard about tiger is bad- i dont know how they are still in buisness

flipside27 05-24-08 12:28 AM

i was litterally about to call them on teusday to order a front clip, THANK YOU!:icon_tup:

JustJeff 05-24-08 12:36 AM

I had a couple conversations about buying a S5 13B and from talking to the guy things just didn't seem right. He seemed like a bad person to buy from....even on the phone.

Thank God I walked away from that deal.

BigWillieStyles 05-24-08 10:43 AM

do they have a website, im curious now.

dark_sado 05-24-08 11:03 AM

thanks for the info I was on there site last week looking into a 13BT to sawap into my 88 GTU, now my search continues o well.

That sucks when you run into a business like this. Its really sad.

R.P.M. 05-24-08 07:46 PM

I'm really glad I could help out. As long as nobody buys anything from them, they will eventually go out of business.

Post this link to other car clubs in your area and spread the word.

I'm sick of hearing about people getting screwed by Tiger Japenese. Lets get these guys to close their doors for good!

R.P.M. 05-24-08 07:54 PM

The most recent thing I've heard from a customer with a T2 was that Tiger would sell him a *rebuilt* engine and install it for $1800!

I told him about how many people have been screwed by them before and if he takes his car there, it will get hacked up and they wont be able to finish it. Then he'll end up with a car worse than he had before and be out a bunch of money.

Honestly, everytime I heard the name Tiger mentioned I throw up in my mouth a litttle....

p4nc7 05-25-08 10:42 AM

My dad has been there once, and he won't go back. From what he told me, they put oil into the engine before giving it a compression test. He had asked for an engine to be compression tested as we were looking at starting a project. They told him the oil was for "lubrication".

Once he told them he wouldn't buy anything unless they could show him an engine that was tested WITHOUT pouring oil into the combustion chamber. They told him no, and pretty much cussed him out.

To their credit, my dad did tell me the manager was polite when he first went in there. lol.

Try Corksport, I didn't get an engine from them, but they were bringing in a load of them. I waited for the next shipment and unfortunately all their S5 engines were parts engines. To there credit they were VERY upfront and they don't just send out sloppy engines.

Natey 05-25-08 12:50 PM

From what I've heard, these guys have a pretty good rep.

Rocking Rotary 05-26-08 09:19 PM

Yeah they suck dont buy form them I got a blown FD engine at full price!

Morondongon 05-26-08 09:31 PM

that's what i like about this site that everything comes to the light.... I wonder what happened to Acostamotorsports.com

immanuel__7 05-26-08 11:35 PM

I was going to buy an S5 off them as well in 2006, they changed there price 2 times. did not seam to know what they where talking about. and wanted to sell me a "direct fit 2Jz engine" or there dual turbo 13B re engine, but the ecu was an extra 600$ on top of the 2600$.... the more i called the more i noticed how bad they where.
i did end up getting an engine from Toronto JDM they were cool ppl and delivered it to north of London for 50$ it had good compression but i ran out of money so i sat to long and the oil seals got stuck on them but the engine is in MINT COND!!

Terrh 05-27-08 08:02 PM

TIGER JAPANESE SUCKS!

deal with them, and you'll get ripped off

my "working " R32 Skyline cost me over $6000 more than the purchase price before I could drive it again after the motor blew up, 12 hours after I bought it!

And of course, they wouldn't do shit for me.

FelixIsGod29X 05-28-08 11:54 AM

Ah always had such a good feeling about how crappy they were. They had a FD they were selling for cheap at one point. I e-mailed them saying if you can provide a compression test i would buy it the next day. I never heard from them and sent quite a few more e-mails. Obviously they never got back to me, i bet the engine was indeed blown.

Rx-7fetish 06-01-08 02:24 AM

HA! i was just reading through the list of junk one of there 13b comes with and appearently it comes with a "complete head" lol

(mophead) 07-12-08 10:42 AM

tiger

i saw this thread after puchasing a S5 TII swap from them the motor hadn't been cleaned and was damn sure it hadn't been tested but to my luck i got the motor droped it in and it runs fine i guess its just the luck of the draw but one thing is for sure after seeing how they treat there customers i will not buy from them again a $1200 risk now thats scary

CarzArKoo1 07-13-08 10:03 PM

shit, thanks for the heads up, i was about to look forward to them. search continues, hope to hear more about better sites.

darkblaze 07-17-08 07:59 AM

can some one check out http://www.enginelandinc.com/enproducts.asp fpr me i have to help a friend on a swap for his 240

sleepyspeed 07-24-08 05:58 PM

I can vouch for Tiger sucking also. Almost two years ago I bought a H22 for my old accord when I got it it had a full oil pan of sludge, broken ringlands, one cracked sleeve, froze balance shafts, and spun cam journals.

shm21284 07-25-08 06:44 AM

These guys also fucked me. I purchased a 13b REW over ebay, and they sent me an s5 block. I had to threaten paypal action and other ebay actions to get 400 bucks back, which still wasn't enough money back for an s5 block. they claimed they "sent me the s5 block and sent the fd block to someone in washington." bullshit.

Then, I checked compression (hooked the starter up directly to a battery), and the rear rotor had somewhere around 30psi. I took the turbo off and looked inside, and it was rusted to hell, so I filled it with pb blaster. Eventually, I was able to pull 70 psi, so I found the engine to be OK.

These guys are scum bags. Never, ever, EVER send your money to them.

There's an excellent engine importer from Texas called jdmenginescorp. They sent me an immaculate motor for the right price.

immanuel__7 07-29-08 08:13 PM

i got my S5 from www.torontojdm.com, 50 $ shiped to london, ontario. it was clean and in good shape, i had to rebuild as I let it sit for 1 more year and the oil controle seals got stuck but when i did have it running it ran fine and flawless..

ha ha, just went to tiger's site, all the rotaries have "complete heads"
and then i got curious, so i went and looked at some of the other motors available, the 2jz gte from the supra came with a 5spd and was only good on 94 and up models, wtf, i just left at that point

streetRx7 09-25-08 07:14 PM

Thats funny as hell^^^^

thats becasue they take 2jz motors form soarer, and mark II and try to sesll them off as supra motors, the block and head are the same but cams, injectors, ecu are all different. also the oil pans and different, an the tranny are all 5 speed for the soarer and Mark II

Thank god for this post, i was pretty close to buying an RX off them, but just the cars in general looked shady i could just imagine the motors:scratch:
Does anyone know a good place in the Toronto area to buy an FD?

Marek 10-20-08 10:57 PM

Friend of mine bought one off them. Agree 100% with Joe; shady business. Sure they'll sell you a FD for 7000 but it wont be worth it. There are still dents and forklift marks from transport. If you are in Ontario it would be better to import to BC and then pay for the transport yourself. I used Hanson's Forwarding to ship my FD and other then a radiator being stolen (which was reimbursed more then full) there wasn't any problems.
Don't buy from these shady places, if you want to get an engine spend the money and go to a reputable shop like RX-7 specialties or RPM. May seem like a hard way to justify the extra $1000 but quality speaks for itself

l3eltinck 10-21-08 08:51 AM

ill be another one to say hell no to tigerjapanese...

they just seem to have absolutely no knowledge about the products they are selling.. all i remember is calling them a few times last year and laughing at them when i was in the market for a 1jz vvt-i because some things i saw on the website i thought were maybe an honest mistake..

i dont even want to go into it from there i think you get the point from other peoples' comments..but yea if you want a good laugh call them up and ask some technical questions

Terrh 11-06-08 12:43 AM

I'll bump this since tiger is somehow still in business, ripping people off.

RiceFx306 11-07-08 07:27 AM

Wow you had me worried.

Thanks for the heads up though.

Yes their warehouse is in Toronto Ontario Canada....

rebelsoldier1860 12-13-08 03:44 PM

I bought a 20v 4age, from those pieces of shit and it had more sludge than any motor i had ever seen!! It had been sitting out in the rain for proboble years, The valves were stuck, it had broken throttle botties. Go to hell stupid f n tiger.

KKMpunkrock2011 12-29-08 02:56 AM

just goes to show, always do your research before making a major purchase.

MazdaRX7.ws 02-10-09 03:54 PM

Bump

eff_three_see_es 02-20-09 07:01 PM

my buddie got a h22 from them for his prelude, super low compression on all 4 cylinders. i almost ordered a motor from them too, until i heard that....and now this thread! im staying far away now.

KKMpunkrock2011 02-20-09 07:03 PM

just another example of why you should ALWAYS do your research before making a major purchase!

wow, that's almost exactly what I said two months ago.

raffer 02-22-09 04:56 PM

THUMBS DOWN on bad sellers !

rebelsoldier1860 02-23-09 08:19 PM

FC_EDDIE 03-05-09 02:26 PM

My brother ordered an S5 T2 motor and dropped it right in. Ran perfect then sold the car a year later. he was just one of the lucky ones I guess.
