Thumbs down Hinson Motorsports My two thumbs, your two thumbs, as many thumbs down as possible

On or about September 23rd, 2008 I called Hinson Motorsports and ordered a Yellow Top 75/25 battery becuase, well, they had the best price around and it's a battery. A few days later I got a box, that was blatantly recylced from a few prior deliveries. Inside the box was a battery surrounded by newspaper and looked like it was about to fall out if the box. For all I know it did as the "box" was completely wrapped in packaging tape.

As soon as I saw the battery, still in the "box," I knew it was a 34 series and wouldn't fit. I have a billet hold down that is machined specifically for the 75 series. I called Hinson and spoke to Seth who really didn't know anything. Brian got on the phone and tried to convince me that it would fit. I had already tried fitting the battery before I called becuase I knew that Hinson wouldn't want to eat the shipping both ways on a battery. After about 15 minutes of arguing with Brian and finally convincing him that it wouldn't fit despite "only being a mere 9/16"" off in size I went down to Fed Ex and sent it back.

A few days later I got a call from Seth saying that they didn't have any 75's in stock and they didn't know when they would be coming in. Fine, I wasn't in need of it at the time so I opted to wait. Every two weeks I would call to see if they had finally recieved a battery. It's not like I'm asking for a nuclear reactor to start my car, it's a battery that I can walk into any number of stores & buy right then and there. Every two weeks I get the same bullshit story that they don't have one, and thier supplier doesn't know when they are going to get one.

Today Seth called me, which is what promted this post. He wants to send me a 34 series battery. Now, after waiting nearly 3 months for a battery, why would I suddenly now take the one that won't fit? They still don't have an answer from thier "supplier" as to when they are going to be getting any more 75 seriers Yellow Tops in. I'm not sure who their supplier is, but I'm beginning to think more and more that there "supplier" is an unattended truck.

This is not out of the ordinary for Hinson either. I have a very good friend of mine wait 2 and 1/2 months for an engine swap kit. He would call every two weeks as well and every two weeks he would be told that they'll have it built in a weeks time. This is a product that they manufacture in house and have COMPLETE control over the production of. In my eyes, there is absolutely no excuse for a company to take an order and then wait over 2 months before they start thinking about making it.

In the end my friend got his kit, I however was billed and paid for, a battery, that I have been waiting on for 3 months. Ridiculous.

Are you talking about hinson supercars? Yes everything i've ordered from them came poorly wrapped, but it came quickly and on time, and nothing damaged. As far as their kits go (with all the suppliers of swap kits) they are made in batches and as such take time.

When I ordered my FC swap kit, it took two weeks, my FD kit from Samburg took 2 months, because it was still in fab.

And dynotested/Blaines subframe.... well some folks are still waiting a year and a half later.

edit:

Looks like you got banned so I guess you won't be replying. But I'd suggest you just cancel the order, take a refund and go buy it somewhere else.

Temp vaca.

Yes, I am talking about Hinson Supercars. I understand things being built in batches. What I can't understand is a battery not being in stock for 3 months or them telling my buudy two weeks every two weeks. This isn't some aweful 80's comedy, it's supposed to be a legit business.

I'd rather not cancel the order as they had the best price and they've had my money for over 3 months. It's a battery. It's nothing special. It's a 75/25 Deep Cylce Optima. I'm not asking for the impossible. Just for them to honor an order.

Thanks.

And thanks Brian. I've bought quite a few things from him in the past and have always been more than pleased. Let me go back to my CC statements and find out exactely what I paid for that battery shipped and then I'll hit you up PM style. Thanks again Brian.
