Question about mixtures...

Hopefully someone will be able to shed some light on this for me. I was laying in bed the other morning half awake and started thinking, when you mix water with alky does that make the fluid un-combustible? Or do the molecules seperate once they are sprayed into the chamber and atomized? Question being because if it doesn't combust when mixed, then why mix at all? Why not just run straight water? And if it does seperate once in the chamber then of course you still have the combustability properties of the alky which would require not such a strong ignition system to fire thru all the water. I might be under some misconception about having to upgrade the ignition when running water. If someone could help me out. Thanks.

methanol/water mixture does not form an azeotrope.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azeotrope

the flammability of a mixture of the 2 depends on the bulk volume temperature of the solution. Boiling point of methanol is ~65C, the closer to this temperature, the more the methanol will distill off, the more flammable it will be. A vent tube from the methanol tank to the outside of the car will solve this problem.

to run 100% water, you will need a really accurate means of dosing your injectant due to the extreme high latent heat of vaporization. AFAIK, the only system capable of doing this is the aquamist HFS-5 or the aquamist 2D system - both using a high speed valve that pulses in sync with you fuel injector, delivering a constant water/fuel ratio. With accurate control of water injection, you will not need an arc welder to ignite the charge

here is a review from al/dynoflash about this highly accurate injection system - he has tuned more mitsubishi evolution than any other tuner
