Installed Coolingmist Kit! First drive impressions

I installed the progressive kit with boost trigger 4psi start 9psi full. When I receive the aquamist summing module I'll set it to follow fuel injector duty instead.

I have 2x M2 nozzles (2.8gph or 176ccm) one pre turbo and one at the greddy elbow injecting water only.

Well, the stock ait at the stock location showed good results!

It showed a nice drop in temps from a heat soaked 67C to about 43C with the first boost to redline and driving at around 30mph so not much airflow at the asp large stock mount ic (75F ambient). Driving at that speed without boost caused the temp to creep back up to 49C.

Cruising in the highway at 70mph boosting once to merge in traffic lowered temps to 40C and stayed there.

Boosted a few times and the temps went down to 33C and crept back up to 37C when I set the cruise control.

Then I got caught in traffic and the ait showed heat soak in the 50's C, as soon as I got a chance to boost and get some water in there they went down to 35 C.

So far I'm very happy with this setup! Not a very reliable scientific test but it was great to see the temps go down fast when boosting! Normally it takes a while at >50mph to lower temps when the IC gets heat soaked.

Can't tell about any power difference as my clutch is going and it slips at any boost over 4 or 5 psi

What boost are you running? What turbo? Those are good results though!!

Which turbo did you install on 1st or 2nd?

Thats a great result btw! Did you have it dyno'd before the install?

The only time I've dynoed it was a few years ago with many many less mods and a different ecu, it did 315whp at 13psi and 250whp at 9psi. Now I can't dyno until I change the clutch.

I installed the pre-turbo nozzle against everyone's advise spraying inside the M2 airbox pre-filters. IMHO this ensures both turbos get their share. The box is aluminum and gets pretty warm in the engine bay so the water mist should evaporate rather quickly. The other nozzle is at the greddy elbow.

I figured the filters are oiled so they wont really get water soaked and even if they trap some water it'll get evaporated just by the airflow going though them. This will lower the intake air temp down to at least wet-bulb temperature until the air is saturated, at that point I don't know if any further cooling will take place as the water saturated air is compressed.

If I understand you correctly, it seems you have one of your nozzles pre-intake filter? If that is the case, I would definitely advise you to change that. With modern oil-soaked filters, you will not allow the water injection to effectively do its job. When or if the filters are able to become water soaked even with the oil on them, you will hurt the air flow through them. In addition to air flow, you have lost any bit of atomization also. Keep it simple and place your nozzles post turbo and take advantage of what the water injection has to offer. The Coolingmist kits do a nice job if set-up correctly.

I'm looking to get a dual inlet k/n filter and will relocate the nozzle to the top flange of the filter so it sprays inside of it. Until I do that I'll just keep it as it is and take a look at the filters once in a while.

I like to go against the current, challenge the norm and find out new things. Rice has excellent results with pre-turbo injection, others with pre-throttle, I want both.

Pre-turbo works, along with pre-throttle. I'm sure some have an opinion as to what actually is "best", but the problem here is spraying it through your filters...when you put the nozzle 'post' filters you will notice it will be much more efficient.

still selling the pump, I lowered the price, check the fs thread if interested. I also received the fuel injector duty summer module from aquamist and will be installing it BUT the clutch is dead so I can't drive the car until I put the new clutch in...

oh and i ordered a dual inlet kn filter for the m2 box so when I get it I'll relocate the pre-turbo nozzle to spray inside of it instead of outside like I have it now.

I guess this is a noob question, but what is the summer system and where can i get it? I don't see it on Aquamist's main website. I also see that you are using it with your Coolingmist system. Does the summer work with any water injection system? Say the AEM system? Thanks!!!

There's a lot of info on aquamist's summer on some other threads. Basically, it reads injector duty cycle from both primary and secondary injectors and "sums" it to an overall injector duty cycle value to be used originally by aquamist's kit but since it has many outputs it's possible to integrate it with other kits depending on their design.

Can you send me a link to where I could buy the summer? Typing Summer in the search bar only sends me to things like summer driving or events. Thanks!

search for "summer" or "idc-summer" inside the auxilliary injection sub-forum and you'll find it. There's tons of info that you need to read. To order one you need to contact Richard from Aquamist directly as the summer is a special item, you can pm him.
