I don't really have any problem with it. Children don't have any rights here in the US. I have more of a problem with the Australian gun laws personally. Kids without experience learn the hard way... they get killed or injured. Blame it on those damn video games!

No, it's a way to keep dumb ******* kids from doing stupid **** in their high powered cars that mommy and daddy bought them. If you can't see how this is a good thing then there's something wrong with you.

and your bike isn't a VTR996. 996cc is your displacement, the model number is VTR1000 (VTR1000F if you want to get technical, the F is for Firestorm; the name it was marketed under outside of the US).

****!

I haven't heard of any new laws restricting what you drive as a learner, I call major BS.

Move to Western Australia if thats the case.

The only "new" laws that have come out lately are in relation to power to weight, which makes it harder to drop a highly modified 13BT into a completly stock early model RX car like the 3's or 2's etc...which can usually be sorted and licenced if you upgrade the braking system anyway...

I haven't heard of any laws restricting what cars learners can buy...thats ****!

Laws have been around for a while now in certain states

This is the NSW list
Basically boils down to Maximum 6 cylinders, no turbo / supercharged vehicles.

Hey guys,

I think these new driving/power output rules apply all over Australia as of 1/7/2007. I live in Queensland but it definately applys in Queensland. They actually inspect the vehicle before your allowed to drive it and if necessary they will dyno it to make sure it does not exceed so many horsepower.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Notice under Mazda in that list, it says nothing about a standard 13b Mazda Rx-7????

Like the post above says.

Its for V8 & forced induction cars..

N/A RX-7 = YES
turbo RX-7 = NO
N/A RX-8 = YES

Plenty of P-platers getting around in RX-8's now that they are dropping in price on the used car market.

As for the power-to-weight rules, they have been around for many years now & prevents you from installing a 13B turbo engine into a lightweight RX-3 or anything else under 1100kg. Although a 12A turbo is still fine.

The laws are in place to protect the people around you, from you. At 15, you are a statistic, although, 15 is too young to drive [alone] for another 2 years.. And i seriously wouldnt put it past our government to increase the laws by then.

I will just add that i have seen Green P platers driving 8's and turbocharged cars around, as well as one i saw driving a nice blue 99 spec FD... With the plates sticky taped to the back of the car...

There are exemptions available (employment, family car, owned the vehicle prior to restrictions), but more than likely it is just drivers coming towards the end of their provisional license. Remember the restrictions only apply to provisional licenses issued after 11 July 2005 and the minimum period you spend on provisional licenses is 3 years, but you can spend up to 4 years if you wanted too .

i would cry at this law, because it really feels constraining (as if the existing laws aren't enough) but then again the sports car community/enthusiasts have kinda brought this upon themselves. how many teens (aka idiots) have driven around with their fancy new 7's and 8's, or any other cars thinking they're tough, cool etc and wanna prove themselves and impress the chicks. hopefully this will put those fellas in their place.
