american moving out to australia for work
a buddy of mine is looking to apply for a job to become a miner in Australia for 143k a year. He wants me to go into it with him and put some cash away. Some hard work for big rewards.
What does rent look like? How much is gas going for right now? How good is the healthcare system down there? How much is taken out in taxes?
Also what does anyone know about these opperations that hire guys from the states and fly them down to Australia? Do they provide living quarters? All i know about it is word of mouth from my friend.
I dont have too much going for me right now and Im not married or have any kids. Im not sure how interested i am in this until i get more info. I've been looking online but would love first hand views from you guys if you know anything. thanks for your time.

Hey mate,
The mines generally look after you, depending on the locality of the mine, the company will fly you in and out and in a fair few cases you'll have accomodation supplied too, usually in the form of a house with a couple other miners living in it. Rotations can be 5days on 5 off, 2 weeks on 2 weeks off, etc, just depends.
Health care is top notch, if you're hurt or sick the hospital will take care of it. no insurance bullshit.
We have a goods and services tax of 10% this covers the majority of stuff you'd spend money on.
Renting a nice place in suburbia will be about 400 a week.
If you do head over, i'd recommend setting a budget, you guys over there can afford to live fat, you get value for money, here... well $4 will get you a cold soda

Where are you looking at moving to in Australia, its the same size as the USA
Western Australia (WA) is the Money state at the moment, lots of well paying jobs. Mines are a long way from city of Perth though, most of the high paying jobs in are in Karratha, Port Hedland, Meekatha which are all serveral hours flight away. (Perth, Western Austalia)
A friend of mine works in Karratha, today is was 42deg C and 60% humidity, and thats not considered overy lot for Karratha. He works 3 weeks on (7 days per week, 12 hours per day) and 1 week off. Fly in Fly out (FIFO)
Breakfast and Dinner are supplied (resteraunt quality) and he has his own company supplied donga.
Company supplied accomodation is a must, Rent in Karratha and Port Hedland is about $1200 per week for a shity house
