single turbo maps anyone?

does anyone have a single turbo (large turbo pref) map for a 550/1680cc injector setup? Preferably one that starts well I dont plan to use it in my car, but i would still like to study how you did the injector staging, startup fueling, ignition map, and so on.

not street ported, but anything you have would be ok. I really just want to see how you managed to make the transition to using the secondary injectors smooth and a couple other things.

point5,

Here is the latest map from my single turbo car (i just put my mods in my profile, let me know if you can't get to them). I've never been on a dyno, this has all been tuned on the street with the aem uego.

My IAT sensor and idle control motor are not working, so keep this in mind. This map is fairly rich on my car, assuming it isn't too cold out.

It is starting to get warmer here, so i will be tuning again soon (after i fix the broken stuff). I'd like to check out your map if you can post it up. Some feedback would be great, so if you see anything that looks wrong please let me know.

ok, finally had a chance to take a look at your map. You are fully boost comp'd, which is cool, but i dont see how your ve table on your fuel map is the same from 2800 on. Shouldnt it reach a peak at peak torque and fall off from there? Thats what mine looks like at least. Is there another fuel trim im not seeing?

Also, what kind of resistor are you using on your injectors? I am getting an increadible amount of lag with 10ohm resistors, and the 3.2ohm resistors overload the ecu. My injector lag (staged battery offset) is around 1800 to 2000....yours is half that. How did you tune for the injector lag?

How is your driveability with your full boost comp? Im using a hybrid boost comp because ive got my low speed and highway loads finally manageable and i dont want to screw them up switching to full boost comp.

Couple things that i think might be wrong with your map settings...it doesnt seem like you have run the coolant or air temp sensor calibration wizards for the rx7. Also, the FM relay is set to only come on above 14psi. This means your fuel pump will only get 10v until you reach 14psi where it will then get 13v. For some reason my aem wont turn on this relay even if i do have it set to on so i ended up hotwiring that relay so it always gets 13v.

point5,

You are absolutely correct, the map should lean out and advance spark after peak torque (not that i am an expert or anything, but this is my understanding). I actually had several maps where i leaned it out more at the higher speeds, but i have lost those as they were on a previous laptop (this makes me very sad). The map I posted I actually had to go out and get off the ecu, this is the only map I have from last year. Toward the end of the year I ended up reverting back to a previous richer map (flat after 2800rpm) as it was getting colder and my intake air temp sensor wasn't functioning.

As for the resistors, I don't even recall what resistance they were. I bought the "Extreme Fuel System 93+" from rx7store.net and bolted the stuff on. All i remember was they were in a gold anodized extruded aluminum case. I would go out and check for ya right now if there wasn't a mother ******* layer of snow on my car right now. I have selected the "Ford Motorsports 1600cc (152lb) 5 ohm" injectors in the wizard. I asked if this was correct in a post on the AEM website, and was given the thumbs up by some dude. To be honest, I don't even know if I have significant injector lag with these settings??? I have not experimented with these settings, this is the only setting I have tried with these injectors/turbo/exhaust/IC...

The driveability seems surprisingly good most of the time... compared to nothing. Honestly i have few complaints, except the occasional stalling (my idle control motor isn't functioning). I would expect it to get even better overall once i fix the broken stuff and get it on a dyno.

Thanks for the heads up on the fuel pump. I did have the coolant and IAT sensors setup in later maps, I will have to set that again.

Would you mind posting up your map? I would like to check it out, i'm sure there is a lot I can learn from it. Thanks man!

well here is my map. it is a hybrid boost comped map. The driveablity is pretty good at low speeds and decent afr on the highway (14-15 most of the time). Tuned for 11:1 in boost.

Mods:
stock 550pri/1680cc sec bosch injectors @ 43psi base fuel pressure
walbro fuel pump w/hotwired relay
t70 turbo (super laggerific which is why my ve table is so pronounced i think)
stock ports
tuned up to 15psi of boost on stock map sensor

things to note:
my injectors are super laggy with 10ohm resistors. I tried the 3.2ohm resistors that come with teh rx7store.net kits (gold heatsink ones), but they seemed to overload the aem injector drivers. I tuned my injector lag by setting an area of my fuel map that i can reach by revving the engine to send 25% fuel to the secondaries. i then reved it to that area and noted the afr. i changed the battery offset until it reached the richest afr. Not terribly scientific, but i couldnt figure out any better way.

I dont have an egt. I tuned the knock control based on readings i got during testing. I think i chose around .6v to be considered knock and retarding from there. No idea if this is correct or not, but most knock sensors are up to 5v so .6 SHOULD be conservative, but have no data to prove this.

since i dont have an egt, the timings are mostly taken from the stock powerfc map for modified vehicles. It is a tad more conservative than that map at higher boost levels though.

ooh, and the fuell differance map is messed up. 75% is not the optimal differance between 550 and 1680cc injectors...even though 1680/(550+1680)=.753 and there for 75% of the fuel should be going to the 1680s, aem's calculation of this is obviously differant and i think the number you really want is around 68%. I havent change this yet becuase if i do its going to require me to retune my boost range.

Im sure there are other things wrong with it that im not thinking of right now Comments and feedback are greatly apprecieted!

yo,

.5, i took a look at your map, it looks pretty good. I haven't had a chance to really tune on my map lately though. The last couple weekends i spent fixing both known electrical problems on my car. The IAT was easy, i had the wrong connector hooked up to the sensor (not sure which connector it was) but it reads correctly now. Today I got the ISC working. Not sure where the problem was but it was not receiving power at the B/W wire at the connector, so i ran a wire from the 1B pin on the ecu (swiched 12v) to the B/W wire at the sensor. It is so nice having the ISC working, the car idles smoothly without stalling. Before i had to have the mixture at 12:1 or it would idle erratically, so far i've leaned it out some and it still idles.

Have you guys messed with the accel enrichments at all? I noticed significant differences between yours and mine .5chink, mine being much richer. I think I may try your settings because sometimes when i open the throttle rapidly it pegs rich on the o2 gauge and stumbles. I was thinking about doing load based accel enrichments instead of tps based. What do you guys think about this? It seems like load would be better than tps for a turbo car, but what do i know.

Hi guys, im alittle off the subject but wondering. I have had the powerfc w/ datalogit in the past and kinda know my way around it, I was just wondering how come not many guys here use AEM? is it that hard to tune? is it safer then the power fc as far as knock retard timing? I have heard the Power Fc doesnt have knock retart is that correct. I am looking forward to purchasing AEM cause I've heard it is easier to install the wideband. The powerfc w/ datalogit I had lots of problem trying to configure the wideband to work. LC-1 wideband.

cooperf1: so for the accel fuel pump i would maybe find something inbetween yours and mine. Mine goes lean off idle when i get on the gas quick which causes a hesitation. This is something im working on.

rx74evers: its not that its hard to tune, quite the opposite actually with boost comp and the amount of data logging you can do. Problem is that the base maps are totally bogus and its hard to get really good info for the rx7. The aem can do so much more than the powerfc, but unfortunately it isnt as well documented for our cars. Hopefully we can change that! And yes, it is easy to install a wideband on your aem.

point5, have you ever had your car on a dyno, or do you plan on tuning it on a dyno? I think i will be visiting a dyno maybe later this year once i add a few more parts.

rx74evers: I think no one uses the aem, because no one uses it. There is no real knowledge base or community of users for the rx7, unfortunately this means you are much less likely to find someone with a similar setup as yours to use their map as a starting point. It sure doesn't help that the base map is complete garbage, i think this really gave the ecu a bad name and kept it from catching on ever because people (like myself) were not able to plug it in and start their car up. I've read several stories of people giving up on it before they even had the thing working. For me it wasn't a big deal, because i was planning on messing with it for hours anyway, but that pathetic base map really makes aem look bad. I do think it's really a great ecu however, and it's cake to setup the aem wide band with it as well. If i had it to do over again i would still get the aem.

ok..a new and improved map! This one is fully boost comped, but i did it slightly differant than most people. For this map i have two seperate boost comped sections. One for boost and one for vacuum. This gives me better control over both sections than just using throttle compensation alone. i switched turbos (to a 60-1) and havent tuned the boost section much yet. I added 15% to my old map in the boost section just to be safe.

keep thread alive haha..

so the rx7store 3.2 ohm resistor overload the aem? which resistors did you end up using?
