Question Running Adaptronic Base map

Hi guys,

So I was wondering if it would be safe to run the adaptronic base map BUT increase AFR to run more rich, my logic is that way i dont lean out and blow the engine.

My mods are:
*BNR stage 3 turbos
*Thermal Engineering cat back exhuast
*K&N drop in filter
*Adaptronic ECU

Thanks,
Moe Greene

Well it has been a long time but the Adaptronic base map is okay but you may run into some things that might bother you. The main ignition is good for getting around town and the boost region isn't too bad either. Idle is one of the main concerns of this map.
I guess I should ask what injectors you are using and what ECU are you using specifically?
I have my tuning progression thread as does Skeese and one other fellow on here that I would highly recommend looking at. I used Eugene for tuning and most people still use WARI.

A few concerns about the base map for me:
Wastegate control is at 100% duty cycle which means your car will run a lot of boost and I would recommend setting it to 0% to run wastegate pressure and start from there if you are doing the tuning.
I remember the idle effort after start up and the air conditioning gains being way too high so when you first start up the car, it will rev to roughly 3 grand if you still use the thermowax rod like I do (It saves some time tuning imo). Turning on the AC would also make my car surge and bog hard because the effort was way too high.
The transient throttle also needs to be addressed for throttle stabs and quick throttle applications. The table was way off for my stock ports and the async gain didn't work right until around 180% gain or so.
The cruising cells like to be in the high 80s and in the 90s for VE readings. I personally have my cruise cells tuned to 14.0AFR for cruising at 60 and about 13.5AFR for 70 as these results gave me decent fuel economy and reasonable EGTs.
I recall the cranking values also being extremely rich and needing work to get the car to start consistently well.

Just keep in mind that it is a base map and needs a lot of polishing to run like a stock car. Be sure to set proper engine protection and keep an eye on those AFRs!

Here is my tuning progression thread. I am in Oregon and it was cold and wet when I tuned but the car still ran fantastic all summer! This is basically bolt ons and 12psi with stock ports so keep that in mind.

This is another thread that used twins (I think either 99 twins or BNRs). It helped me out quite a bit.

Here is Skeeses thread. He is using a single turbo in this build thread but you might find some useful info.

Good luck and have fun!

Adaptronic has the ability to get a quick base map if you do not have one also. So maybe watch the video on him showing how to do this. I actually had someone put my ECU in and tune it for me. So I had the base map. I just went in and fine tuned it after a little bit of learning. I wish I wouldn't have pad to get it tuned though. I was able to do a much better job fine tuning my own car since I was willing to put the time and effort into it. I think just putting the car in rapid learn while in CLOSED LOOP will help you get a base map. You would need to take some nice easy drives at 1st while it learns. You just set the Target AFR correctly. This works really well. After this you can set it to the slower learn where it makes slight changes and not as rapid. However when I went back and looped at the fuel map instead of it being nice and smooth it was hilly a little. So for a final tune I would not use the learning feature however it will run real well with those features when I used them the car was nice and smooth. And you are correct to make sure you are a little richer and the tuning will correct when you drive it. There are easy methods of changing the fuel when you get into making changes. You do not want to just change 1 cell at a time. You want to raise or lower a larger area. You can select multiple cells and raise or lower them at once to keep a smooth transition. Like the other poster posted links that have some good information in them. I talked with Skeese and he helped me get started. I ended up using MEGALOGVIEWER. I think adaptronic has a feature that works like this as well, but I didn't use it.
