until now there really hasn't been a perfect clutch package for our single turbo FDs. the Exedy Hyper Twin double disc is an absolute jewel as to engineering and build quality but someone made a major Cracker Barrel decision as to frictional surface. it is pretty much either engaged or it isn't.
welcome to feather. and totally joyous driving in stop and go.
not only does linear take up put a smile on the driver's face but it also a help to our overstressed transmission syncros. i have called ACT annually for over a decade asking them for a double and here it is.
clutches are a big deal in FD land. our motors are small and make big power. small motors have small flywheels. small flywheels have small frictional area. in order to hold more power you need either a stiffer spring, a higher coefficient of friction or more frictional area. two of those factors are not friendly to street dual purpose driving.
Exedy added frictional area (double) and a higher grip/cermatallic surface.
ACT added the area BUT stayed w the friendly organic lining. Happy Driving.
but organic lining... will it hold? i can answer that. in 2013 i swapped in a Tremec T56. a couple of years ago i upgraded to a Magnum F. since Exedy declined to modify my clutch discs i called Mcleod and they said they would be happy to adapt their RST double. organic lining, springs. super happy for 12 years. organic lining. OE pedal, lots of feather... happy around 600+.
so organic is fine.
take a good look at the engineering on this package. lots of patents. the hub that serves both discs is amazing.
very trick
all modular
this one is going to spend some time at Barber Motorsports Park
i hope you enjoyed the pictures. i wanted the community to see what a nice job ACT did.
in anticipation of reaching 500 w my two Garrett TO4 setup (2006) i bought an Exedy Hyper Single. it still is a gorgeous piece/ billet cover, cerametallic disc. and it slipped at 500.. you can only do so much w a single 240 mm frictional area unless you up the spring pressure..
if you are on a single turbo setup w a single disc this is your next clutch.
i am a vendor and do sell them but primarily i just want the community to see what ACT is now offering for our magnificent cars

I have about 90 miles on this setup from act and it's great. I replaced a exedy twin disk zm022sd. Clutch pedal pressure for the act twin is lighter than the exedy by far. Its engagement is like their single plate street disk clutches, smooth and consistent. Modulation is very progressive. Zero noise / rattle (I did have the disks staggered in the exedy and it was quiet also ) .
I will add using the feed big bore slave I am running makes the pedal effort, laughably light. Think lighter than the OEM setup. T1ss-mz01 is the model I am using. Holds 590 ft pounds and comes with a new pilot and throwout bearing as well. It also shaves 7.2 pounds off compared to the exedy.
the package is lighter than the Exedy primarily due to the Exedy intermediate plate. someone went a bit crazy. the Exedy is a casting similar to a brake rotor complete w internal fins. it is gorgeous and no doubt works well as to heat dissipation but it weighs lots. ACT simply uses a flat plate. no surfaces separated by an internal cooling passage, no fins.
here, again, my experience w my Mcleod RST double is instructive. in service starting 2013, beaten on pretty good and still perfectly flat, still the same plate... and still, lots lighter than brand E.

"I go CD009, but maybe they make one for that, too."
the answer is a probable yes. i discussed my situation w them at the PRI and they said they would be happy to make me a rotary package w Tremec splines. it is on my to do list but currently the list is pretty long.
Happy to see you chiming in on this one, Howard. I have this same clutch setup sitting on a shelf waiting to get swapped out this winter (maybe later this month if I'm feeling it). I've currently got the ACT HD plate and their 6 puck sprung disc. I'm hoping this is more easily streetable than that is while being just as capable. Seems like it's a winner.
