I work from home so I don't need a "daily driver" per se. However, I do drive my FD everytime I get a chance. I put on maybe 500 miles a month on her.

You do realize that rotarys that sit up for extra lengths of time tend to have more carbon flaking problems than a rotary that are driven all the time? I got my Fd with 65k back in January of 2003 and have put nearly 40k in it in 3 years daily driven. It runs better now than it did when I got it. The previous owner never drove it enough. People don't realize that cars tend to have more reliability problems when they sit up compared to cars that are driven regularly.

You could DD a dump truck if you really had the urge, as long as you don't expect it to provide the same fuel economy and relaibility of a Honda Civic. Sheesh, use a little common sense people.

Having said that, whenever someone pops up asking if you can DD an FD, more then likely they don't have the financial means or the mechanical savy to make it possible. If they did, they wouldn't be trying to grasp some tiny bit of comfort/reassurance/ray hope out of people's responses.

Therefore, if you have to ask - no.

My cym has barely 45k on the odo and it runs and drives like it's brand new. You don't get carbon buildup problems from leaving the car in the garage, you get carbon problems from driving it like an old lady. the previous owner of your car probably never put their foot down in the car... I don't drive my FD much, but when it's on the road I definitely make sure to clear it's throat a few times. More miles does not equal reliability...

My FD is currently my daily-driver...

my bro's been driving my Honda. >_>

~200 miles a tank, whooo..

Eh...at least it's only an 8 mile drive to/from work. Rush-hour traffic hurts me, though.

I don't think the FD makes a great daily-driver. Gas mileage is killing me. I'd rather be spending that kinda money on mods, but even if I had my Honda back, I'd still want to drive her a few times a week; Weekends, short trips to the pool hall, fun shtuff like that. The honda would basically be my work car and used for longer trips........like driving to my mom's house.

^_____^

My ideal situation is to have a '91 clean black/white FC as my daily, and the FD as my weekend. You know...keep it in the family...rotary style.

I never said carbon build-up, I said carbon flaking. That's two totally different things. The internal carbon build-up on the rotor faces becomes more powdery over time when the engine sits up. When you fire it up, pieces of carbon flakes will break away from the engine. Would you want dust circulating around your engine? This forms small scratches over time and "could" lower the compression slightly. This is also how engines carbon lock(ask me how I know). Besides when I say cars tend to have more problems when they sit up, I wasn't just talking about the engine itself. The cooling system gets more corrosive when the water isn't circulating.

I have only had my car for about a month and it has 83K on it, however I use my car as my work car delievering pizza three days a week on average and drive to school in it everyday. I saved my money to buy a nice car that I would actually drive every day why would you not drive it after spending money on it, to me it would be like buying a house and not living in it because it is too nice.
P.S. I do have the fastest delievering car, beat that stupid supra

My first FD back in 97 was my daily, used it everywhere from rain to sun to snow, loved it, no major issues. Sold it, regretted it, bought another one in 2000. More recently had a 2003 GTI for my daily while driving 90 miles/day, fun car nice little turbo. Finally we moved my office...now got rid of the GTI since it is only 20 miles each way and just use the Jeep and the FD. Probably 25% FD 75% Jeep - I figure all bases covered w/ the Jeep & RX-7 - I have a convertible, 4x4 and pure speed car!

I work 5 days a week, and there is no way in hell that Ill drive it there, so mine isnt a daily driver. But I do drive it as hard as I want with no fear of breaking it. And in the off chance that I do, Ill just fix it.

After 3.5 years and 32k miles, my car is no longer my DD. And I'm very happy it's not anymore. Driving your FD to get the grocery store or to the gym or whatever and parking it in the typical parking lot with narrow spaces and careless ******** gets very old....

Just a fun street/track car now.
