Your Favorite Modification

I am starting with a 93 touring/40K miles and would like to enjoy this car for years. Modifications are plentiful. I know about the standard reliablility suggestions, but any thoughts on aditional work? How about the recommended manufactureres of add ons, PFS? etc? The change outs are endless.

I am not interested in 500 hp but want a more reliable ride.

lightweight flywheel has been most enjoyable

amen to the light weight flywheel. I got the 11.5 from M2 and the ol' butt dyno could feel it better than any other mod I had done.

Just a question, why not the 9.5lb?

DrPJM1 07-25-04 09:12 AM

I've got the 9.5lb flywheel & the engine response is great. It made a whole lot of difference from the stock piece, fun to watch the tach needle fly up and down. Only drawback was advancing from a stop needed re-learning footwork required.

Downpipe made a great difference in underhood temps and spoolin of turbos in my car, maybe because the pre-cat was dying. i did it together with the open intake and the car felt like a new one.

As Howard said, the manual steering is a very nice mod too. You get rid of un-needed weight and in return you loose the overboosted sensation and get better steering feel. The car feels more stable as the sppeds increase.

My other favourite mod was lowering the car, again to Howard's recommendation, to 25" to top of wheelwells. Feels like the car is on rails.

HAHA For you, living in DC, you should get either Lo-Jack or a 4x4 set up to avoid the shitty pothole filled roads of Georgetown etc..
lol

100% hands down for me was installing a manual rack.

scratchjunkie 07-25-04 02:40 PM

the best mod i did sits in the passenger side and has an oral fixation.

other then that top 3 mods in sequential order would be:

1. downpipe
2. cupholder
3. gauges

Without question, the best mod is the "Cheap Bastard Intake Kit". For $70 you get a high performance intake that performs as well as the high priced intakes. It even passes smog, visual and emmissions. Best mod by far :D

Getting a SCCA membership and using my car. If you're just going to drive around on the street its reliable as is from the factory as long as you maintain it properly.

although many people never say or admit that, it is true that it is pretty reliable in stock form. MY father's is on it's last leg and it's approaching the horizon of 190,000 mile on the stock engine and turbos. And he doesn't even take that great of care of it. Hopefully it makes it to 200,000 and i can be the president of the 200,000 mile on stock engine club.

BEST MOD IMO:

Buying a PFC with commander by far..

Shows all your readings, air temp, injector duty, water temp ,boost, rpms, speed.
with peak holds.. Can drive with vigor not having to worry about Blowing your motor.

My favorite mod is my B&M short shifter. It makes the car feel a lot more solid.
