Yet another way to do the stock airbox mod

I have followed previous discussions and opened up my airbox for better breathing. I thought I would take up some bandwidth and post three pictures showing how I went about it. That is, if I can get them to upload...

The bottom line is that a nice powder-coated aluminum "duct" is available from electronics parts suppliers. It is a type of electronic project box with a sliding lid. It is easy to whack off a part of it and mount it cleanly.

Thats an interesting idea. Looks like it should work nicely. How will you remove the airbox once it is sealed to the new duct? Maybe you should not seal it.

I designed a shield that does something very similar. Since it doesn't seal, the airbox can be removed as if it were stock. Mine also also brings in air from the nose of the car. Info here:

Have you had a chance to test it yet. That should make a big difference in your cars performance. Nice job!!

Its ghetto fabulous!

Seriously, good "lateral" thinking. Clean.

The Right Stuff gasket maker in the cheez whiz type dispenser is awesome for sealing gaps.

Regarding the sealant I am using...

It is the black stuff that is about the diameter of a pencil and comes on a roll. I believe is also used for glass and I got my last roll down at NAPA. Its tacky and pliable but does not harden. It just peels off if I want to get the airbox off.

No particular reason why the small gaps should be sealed anyway. My biggest concern is that I might get some whistling under full draw/boost.

This is great. I bet with a K&N flat style it will flow VERY close to M2-variants.
