well, I was driving home tonite, and I think my motor took its last leap. It has 89k on the original motor, and rebuilt turbos. I was driving about 40 mph, then the car just slowed way down on its own. I tried giving it a touch more gas, as I downshifted to compensate, and the gas pedal became super unresponsive, followed by a whiff of some kind of burning smell (I was too worried to really think of what it might have been, I really couldn't pinpoint the smell). As I flicked the hazards on and pulled over, the idle was lumpy, nearly wanting to stall out and the exhaust was smoking. I let it cool down for a little bit, then shut it off.
Well, what it felt like to me, was the turbos failing, but the turbos sounded like they were spooling fine, (no boost gauge). However, what it could also have been described as is the clutch not wanting to hook up, or something like a tremendous drivetrain loss, or just speed and engine loss. It slowed way way down from what I remember as I drove it towards the side of the road.
I made a post before about my problems with the motor, so heres its history if u may have missed it. My gas mileage was about 160-170mi to a tank, along with eating about 4 quarts of oil per 700 mi. or so. I could hear coolant rushing through the heater core, and would get an add coolant light often, however only when clicking over to ACC, and would very rarely get it when driving. Replaced the AST and associated lines. Drop in K&N filter, otherwise completely stock. I can't think of anything else at this point, so I may have left details out. I have no cash, and dont know what the hell Im gonna do.

Sorry to hear that.
Based on this it sounds like time for another powerplant.

Stevey, I hate to say this, 'cause you sound like a really nice kid, but your avatar says it all.
If you are broke, why would you be thinking about an
optional porting job (anywhere from $300 to $1,000) or a 20B (up to $40K) when you need a basic engine rebuild just to get you back on the road? (MINIMUM of $5K to have someone do it for you and do it right)
Time to selll and cut your losses if you can't stay in the game. It sucks, I've been in your shoes before.
Some day you'll look back on your situation and still be pissed off that it happened. I did it twice, once with a motorcycle and once with a jeep. I'm a slow learner.
Yeah, I'm also not very sensitive.
, but I call 'em like I see 'em.

if you have no money dont think about a 20b thats way too much for someone who has no money. you might want to do what im doing. my motor blew and im getting it rebuilt with new seals and lots of other goodies but call chris at rotary and he can help ya out they are the best shop in the states.
alright, thx for the help. I had no idea that the 20b would cost nearly that much, I just wanted to see how much it may cost. OK. I guess a rebuild is what I'm going to be looking into. Might be even looking to possibly sell it as well, either before or after a rebuild. My thoughts are scattered right now, so if I get it back, I may actually wanna hang onto it, but we shall see. So, being that I'm incredibly discouraged from this recent mishap, anything that I should try to do other than just saving cash up?

Dont quote me on this, but aren't mazda remans supposedly really terrible? I was thinking of doing a rebuild, at mazdatrix long beach, CA. I'm down here in San Diego, and dont really know where I could take it to get done. From this point, is it really better to get a whole new motor as opposed to getting it rebuilt? Im talking in the sense of motor longevity, whats gonna last longer? Of course there are many factors that are involved, as far as what I may or may not want to do with my re-built/reman motor, but again, what would be the best price if I wanted to keep the car running as reliable and as long as possible aside from obviously performing the proper maintenance? And not being terribly heavy with the gas pedal?
