Yet another 99spec taillight conversion thread

I'm planning on doing a 99spec taillight conversion this weekend. My question is what are the diameters of the circles in the oem 99 taillights?

http://www.jsott.com/rx-7/lights/index.html

I found here that jscott used 80mm circles for brake lights and 75mm for turn signals.

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...rcle+taillight

And this is another one, maybe the silver is misleading but the circles look slightly smaller.

A lot of these threads are old, I was wondering if there are still some guys out here that do the conversion (with the same level of quality than rx7even)?

If not I guess I'll go for it myself.

i do.

i've done sets for at least a dozen forum members now.

also, i have not had ONE set of lights leak/fog. i've also "fixed" a few sets that were done by other people.

i also got the exact measurements for placements of the circles, so they are as close to 99spec as possible (a lot of people get the size right, but the placement wrong.)

search for more info from happy customers or drop me a PM if you're interested.

I'm in Turkey so I can't send you my taillights and back so I'll have to do the conversion myself. Would you be kind enough to pm me the diameter of the circles and distance between the circles for placement?

Just to pick a nit, they're NOT 99 spec taillights. Mazda made the change to the round taillights in '96. So, technically, they're '96 spec taillights.

How about something like this?

I used to convert lights back in early 2000 and this was my one off project. Also, I don't paint so its reversible... not that many of you would go back to non- circular lights.

I just did mine today... maybe 6 hours from start to finish, with maybe only two hours of actual work. I couldn't find my compass, but one of my beer mugs had an 80mm mouth and one of my tea cups had a 75mm mouth... score! It's an easy mod... biggest obstacle was softening up the adhesive with the heat gun and not getting the strings all over my lenses. Everything else was cake.

I just dont get it. Are the 93-95 square taillights that revolting to you guys? I guess converting them is cheap enough, but I couldnt imagine buying them new.

I find the 96 spec so much nicer, the original ones are fine but they look so plain compared to the other ones now, the thing is that as you say spending $500 for headlight is just not in my budget (for a rad, cooler, shocks etc yes, but headlight freak no!).

That looks very cool and gets the David Hayes LED ricer mod approval! Now how about making it like the BMW lights, where the harder you depress the brakes, the brighter the lights get? That would be the ultimate.

Tom I need to send you my tails and cluster! I like how your work turns out. You gonna be around Albany this spring/summer at all? My brother has a pretty cool project he'll hopefully have finished in time if you do.

Wow first time I'm hearing about this, that'd rock but would pump the price up at the same time I assume. Which BMW has those lights? I've seen almost all models on the road but never noticed that.
