Unhappy wow just had the freakest thing happen

wow just had to vent about this. so i get in the FD like normal its been rainy the last couple weeks. i drive about 3 blocks stop at a light and the car dies.

so i think hmm maybe my warm up map on the power fc needs adjusting or something. i restart it, it takes a while cranking fires up the tach is very bouncy and car dies again, i try to rev it up it keeps reving up but tach is all over and its sputtering coughing really bad , then it dies, and wont start at all, tach doenst move at all,

so i pull ou the power fc controllor, try to do a sensor check, and it just locks up. turn key off it wont get past the apexi logo screen. so im thinking ohh great did something short out in the engine bay or something, cause my wiring harnes sisnt in the best of shape. i check things over cant find any problems. check fuses, no problems.

So i pull off the kick panel thinking maybe something came loose in the wiring to the power fc. THen i find the crazyness, the power fc is wet!!

aparnetly water is leaking down from somewhere either windsheild or sunroof or something. and leaks onto the wires in the area then drips down the hole where u plug the comander into the power fc at, and water has flowed down across the mainboard all inside the powerfc!! ****!

so im really worried its fried,i take cover off and try drying it with a napkin, i call the gf and have her head to my moms house to pick up a stock ecu for me and meet me at the car.

then luck strikes a telecom repair guy walks up and asks whats wrong, i tell him the ecu is full of water, and he says hey ive got a heat gun. so we use the heat gun and dry up the ecu, i put the covers back on and it fires up good as new no aparnt damage to the power fc.

phew lucky how insane what are the odds! i need to find whats leakign asap!

Lucky save but if I'm not mistaken they say incase of water damage to electronics, do not try to speed dry it with a heat gun or hairdryer, switch off, gently wipe the excess and let it dry by itself. Maybe that's only for mobile phones though

Put it in a big zip-loc full of uncooked rice. cheap white rice. you can also buy a tub of "damp-rid" at home depot and get a bigger bag and put it in there with it. those things can really suck moisture out of the air.

remove the roof panel and disassemble the sunroof. when you take out the rails you'll probably find rust in the four corners of the sunroof tray near the drains. mine was perforated by rust and they don't make the sunroof tray anymore! Ray at Malloy was as surprised as I was when he couldn't get this part for me.

I tried buying used ones with no luck so in the end I repaired mine with fiberglass.

Yea, I suspect the sunroof drainage. The passenger side drain line runs right down next to the ecu area. I would try to blow compressed air through it, and do as neit_jnf had said and take a look at the sunroof tray.

+1... Do the right thing and fix that before you get stranded, and Backwater Bubba pulls up and ask if everything is alright. Good thing you were able to find the leak. Where exactly was it leaking from?

i allready fixed it. who ever installed the windsheild did a bad job on sealing near the top corner, tried to flow as much sealent in there as i could, it shouldnt leak now, i still have the power fc inside of a plastic bag just incase so theres no way water can leak into it again either way.

if it still leaks i will just have a professional remove and reinstall the windsheild
