Wow, almost a productive night, until... price quote please?

Ok well today I decided to get a new battery and relocate it to the rear passenger compartment.

Everything was going pretty well. I ran the 0-gauge (at $4 a foot!) from the front of the car, though the firewall, and to the rear compartment. Took out all the interior pieces, and had my battery tray ready to be mounted. I bought an optima red top, which should fit pretty well.

So then my parents come home and my dad comes into the garage to see whats up...heres where the trouble starts...

I was at the front of my car, closer to the passenger's side, cleaning the junk off my polished intake pipes, and my dad says, "maybe if your tools wern't all over the ground you would have had this done by now." so my dad starts trying to clean up the floor and then suddenly i head CRASHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh

i look over, and my dad has knocked over my surf board and the nose of the board smashed into the drivers door of my car. where it hit, there is now a 3 inch vertical long dent in the door. its about one inch from the back of the door, and about three inches from the top. the dent is really noticable and it even put a big chip line in the paint

FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKk

my PERFECT CAR! before this, the car did not have ONE dent in it. im not joking, not even ONE MINOR dent.

i dont know if this is even repairable. what do you guys think dent removal like this in a door on our cars costs?

my dad is going to pay for it to be fixed, but this really sucks.

That sucks, but it could have been worse. It only dented one body panel, and it only did body damage.

Dent removal shouldn't be too bad, but if the metal is badly damaged they'll need to replace the door. The touch part will be matching the paint on a 10+ year old car. Might need a respray to match it perfectly.

O man if my dad did that to my car i would probably kill him. I hat how dads think that their way is the only to do things.

In vancouver there is a guy who drives around and repairs dentd and such. He does alot of repairs for dealers and such. It might bre repairable as long as it is not a crease in the metal. Call a few places and bring the car in to get a quote.

You may have to get another door skin for the car. Im guessing it wont be cheap either. The other problem will be matching the paint. Even if you paint it the factory silver it will stand out because it is new paint and it hasnet faided like the rest.

If you take it to a real good body shop they should be able to get the colour near perfect on the car.

Good luck,

PS I love your Cardomain site, some great camera work.

i doubt a dent doctor http://dentdoctorusa.com/ would be able to tackle this one, but its worth a try i suppose.

Sure would hate to see them little dings on my car which most people don't even think about. And having to repair it, now it's tainted.

Bet ya you'll always see the dent even after you repair it.

That's how I am.

Sorry to hear about the accident.

What was your dad's expression when it happened? Probably a kodak moment.

By the way, how's your bro??

yah, i have used a dent doctor before when helping my friend with a few bumps on his car, but i dont think it would do any good on this dent.

ill prob. need a new door skin it looks like...

i hope the paint isnt too hard to match...the car has been garaged most of its life, and i just hit 40k miles....i guess ill have to let the body shop be the judge.

thanks for the info guys

---

oh yah, my bros doing alot better. still a little funny looking but not as bad as before. thanks for your concern

See, if you worked neatly and didn't have your crap all over the floor, this never would have happened!

Seriously though, I feel your pain. My car has 23K, is in near mint condition and if something like that happened to me, my heart would have sunk.

If the dent has a crease in it, I doubt that a dent pro could pop it out cleanly. And since you mentioned that there is a "chip line", you should expect some paint to come off in the process. My friend has a body shop, and from seeing similar jobs done, I'm thinking that they will try and pull as much of the dent out as possible, bondo and smooth out the body work, paint the spot and try to blend it with the surrounding area as best as possible. *That* would be the least expensive way. Otherwise, you just may have to get a new door if you want it perfect. For the former, it should cost ~$400 - $500. For the latter, a lot more...maybe you can have your comprehensive insurance (assuming you're covered) take care of it?

First of you never leave your surfboard standing ANY decent surfer knows that! hehe but about 80% of them are guilty of it. I wish you luck and hate to be the bringer of bad news but silver is THE most hardest color to match and even just spray. They will repaint the whole door if anyhting not jsut try to "patch and blend" the spot.

Rather than go to one of those dent removal places I would hit up a full fledged body shop. Some shops rather than just going by the paint code have a computer photo matching thingamajigger. Um how to explain... basically they have a big computer console that is attatched to a specifically calibrated digital camera and it essentially takes a picture of your paint and then works up a perfect match to what your paint actually looks like so it automatically takes wear, etc into account. Then the computer mixes up a batch of paint specifically for that job. So I would try and find a shop that has one of those computers if you're concerned about having a match, and I would have the entire door repainted.

Good God.....get over it....it is just a dent! ANY good body shop can fix it. And if that is the only dent in your car since you have owned it, consider yourself lucky.
Cars WILL get dents and dings and stone chips and bird **** and hail damage.....lots of nasty things can happen.
You have to ask yourself if you want a car you can drive or to simply own a "garage queen", terrified that your "perfect car" might have something happen to it.
You should feel privileged that your dad allows you to even use the garage, in my opinion.

he should feel privileged that his dad lets him use the garage? Yeah its nice of him to let him use his garage, but that doesnt justify him denting his car. My father helped with the turbo conversion on m car. Throughout the process he would just toss tools on to the cloth that was protecting the fenders from damage. Everytime he would do something like that, i would flip a nut and say "dad, wtf man, cant you be a little carefull with my car" He would respond with "oh, stop being such a baby its not hurting it". Needless to say, after all the work was done to my car and everything was cleaned up, i now have about 10 little dents/ripples on my passenger side fender and about 5 on the other side. Not to mention a deep, inch long scratch on the passenger side from when he would leave tool on it and try to lean over it. I was pissed. My car had only a couple very minor dents and dings on it before this. Now if you look along the fenders it looks like crap with tons of ripples. I feel your pain man, at least your father is going to pay for the damage, wish i could say the same about mine. It all happened because of complete carelesness, and would have been easily prevented if he would have respected my wishes of him being a little more carefull. So because of my parents are letting me use thier garage for my car, does that justify his carelesness? For the amount of money in damage, we could have easily paid for storage somewhere for the winter, and bought a car cover to keep it out of the sun.

Sorry about your dad being careless with the tools, but in Fujikuro's case it was an accident. His dad probably knocked into the surfboard trying to squeeze through. Anybody could have knocked it over. Surfboards, ladders, skis and snowboards should never be just leaned against a garage wall anyways. You learn that quick in earthquake-prone California.

it cracked the paint, so the dent needs pulled and re-painted. about $950.27 at a reputable shop. since the dent is only in the door they dont need to paint the 1/4 panel or other parts of the car to blend it in.

Justify? It was an accident, his father is willing to pay for the damage, and regardless, who left the surfboard in a position where it could fall onto the car in the first place?!? When Fujikuro owns his own garage, he'll no longer have to worry about anyone else knocking surfboards over onto his car.

Welcome to the school of "If you want it done right, do it yourself". If you weren't happy with what was going on, why didn't you just tell your dad you'd handle the rest of it yourself? Don't expect someone else to treat your car the same way you would.

Well said, Jimlab.

I don't know, maybe I am just getting old and crotchety, but the original post just sounded like a spoiled little rich kid whining, in my opinion.

Any decent one....

My rear quarter was creased in in a parking lot incident. Cost to repair panel and repaint the rear of the car -- $2400. Albeit this was at The Works, one of the top shops in the Cali Bay Area.

Also, several years ago when I lived in Indiana, someone hit the door of my 79 RX-7. The total cost came to about $1200, including a new door panel and painting.

That's for sure. I even hate to see fingerprints on mine.

Any passenger who try to access the car always try to hold on to the edge of roof, and I don't care who it is I tell 'em "don't touch the car!"

I'm such an ***.

its a car. its fixable.
if your dad dropped a hammer on you or your kid's head, then i would say you have reason...

BTW, i think i remeber a thread started by your father. it was along the lines of "my son does'nt appriciate anything" then he went on to say that he doesnt realize all the money he has put out over the years for you for food on the table, a roof over your head, and clothes to keep you warm, something about surfboards, money for going out with your friends... i dont remeber everything, but it was a long list of things he has done for you...

lol ok guys dont tweak out at each other over who thinks who is to blame.

maybe i should explain a little more..

1) the surf board was not even near the car, my dad moved it when he first came into the garage and left it standing up near the car while i was on the other side of the car. it fell after he moved it...

2) battery relocation is complete!!! just finished tonight and it came out great. only complaint: when my radio is turned on with the volume really low, you can hear the electrical interfearance noise because the power cable runs down the center of the car and past the radio amp. doesnt really bother me though because i dont listen to the radio that quiet anyway.

the new battery really helped out alot though... my turbo timer works again, the engine doesnt do the 600-700rpm up and down rev at idle anymore, my lights dont dim when i put the brakes on...etc..

will post pics tomorrow maybe.

in the end its just a car...

my dad has been having **** loads of health problems and i regret all the times i neglected him and got in his face when i was a testosterone filled rebellious kid. especially after all the **** he's gone through to take care of his family.

fix the car, tell him thanks and be happy he is around and cares enough to try and take the time to be with you. life is short.

my dad dropped a chair on my bmw last year and fucked up the fender and hood. i'm glad i had the maturity to not give a ****.
