I just drove my car yesterday which was an auto now has a manual w/ 9.5 lb flywheel,and i was expecting some it to be hard to drive. It seemed like alot of the posts about them say that the rpms drop as fast as the go up.I also got a new clutch put in so i didn't get on it hard from a stop,but normal driving like 4,500 rpms and under,i let go gas and push in the clutch and the rpms come down slow,like driving a normal stick on any car. I couldn't resist and i redlined it in 2nd then shifted to thrird and saw the rpms drop quickly,but it didn't really slow the car down at all cause it threw the rpms right back up there. So the way i see it ,is that it only drops quickly after 5,000 rpms. Ofcourse i only drove it once,and i din't drive it hard,but the 9.5 lb flywheel is very streetable. Just my 2 cents

 

so how did you like the acceleration?

 

anyone thaty says a flywheel isnt streetable needs to sell their sport car and buy a camry

I've had my lwfw for over 3 years and I love it. Beat the **** out of it and it always looks fine (had the motor out of the car a little bit in the last year ).......

Hey Street King I love your avatar, it cracks me up everytime i se it.

 

I've heard lightened flywheels were a great street mod, but they aren't so great at the drag strip as it's hard to launch the car and keep it from bogging.

 

A new clutch and flywheel have a break in period that should be followed. It insures that the surfaces match up properly. I suggest that you check with the manufacturer to find out what that procedure is. You don't want to screw up your nice new equipment.

I like my light flywheel setup too. Very streetable. Not much different than stock.

 

I bought the clutch and flywheel combo from SRmotorsport for 918 shipped. It's ACT clutch and pressuer plate with a indglo flywheel. The acceleration is way better than what i had before. AS i stated it used to be a auto. I can't compare it to stock flywheel. But i definately love driving it. I'm also breaking in the clutch so i'm not driving it to hard. I just redlined it once.I don't think that would cause any damage. I know i'm suppose to break the clutch in for 300 miles,but i was just told no hard launchs. So technically i can shift at high rpms. I try to keep it under 5,000 rpms shifting,it's just so new to me.

Kyle, I recommend going the lightweight flywheel route when we do your motor. Big time difference in acceleration in the lower gears. I have a ton of passes on my lwfw, and it still looks fine. You just have to alter your launch technique a bit, no biggie.
