would you re-use this rotor?

A couple of months ago I chucked an apex seal, I finally got around to really look at what damage there was. Here is the rotor that I lost a seal on, whoops. Would you re-use this one?

and then my other rotor, which did not throw a seal, looks like this. This has been rebuilt, but I am very confused as to why a rebuilder would put this rotor in here since it exposes some of the apex seal. Should they have re used this rotor?

Nope. The scratch that is close to the groove would be the one that bothers me the most.

no to which, both? I'm going to have to talk to the builder about the second one.

If I were in a pinch, I'd use the first one. The second one should have been used. It's trash.

The 2nd one deff looks like it has some fresh gouges in it. It would be caked with carbon like the rest of the face otherwise.

IMO, clean it up, go to 3mm seals and don't look back. Looks like a minor infraction

Actually, now that I think about it, both rotors look to have fresh damage. You're sure you didn't blow a seal on the 2nd rotor?

Maybe the first but no way on the second. Clean up the first one, no sharp edges that could cause hot spots, then dye pen inspection to make sure there are no cracks.

seals were fine and the housing was fine, which is just blowing my mind on the second rotor. As long as you guys say the damage is fresh on this second rotor, I won't say who the builder is, I just need to figure out what caused the damage to the 2nd rotor.

It was my fault for blowing the seal on the first rotor, that one is fresh for sure.

Apex seals have been known on rare occasions to blow out of one rotor and manage to get thrown back through the exhaust port of the other rotor and cause dammage too.

I'm no engine builder, but if the dammage on the second rotor was there since your engine was built I would think the carbon buildup on the damaged area would be a little more uniform with the rest of the buildup on the rotor.

There's definitely an imprint of the end of an apex seal in the 2nd rotor. If the aluminum rotor housing has NO damage, then the rotor damage was pre-existing. A hit that hard will leave some scarring in the housing.

apex seals can go through a motor without damaging the seal groove or rotor housings so it may have been caused by the other rotor but personally i would put both rotors up as book ends. the surface that was dented will now be weaker as a result, if it were a minor gouge i would say go for it but that doesn't look minor, it looks to be a few mm deep. the other with the damaged seal groove is also junk and even milling it doesn't look like it will fix the groove up to the apex seal which will be like a blow torch on that one area under normal operating conditions.
