hello. The time has finally come, and i am in the process of buying an rx7. I believe ive found the one i want. If you've looked in the for sale section lately, youve probably seen it too......the guy has made like 10 threads instead of bumping the original. Heres the most recent.

Its black,sunroof, with low miles on a new engine which is exactly what ive been looking for. Ive emailed the gentleman quite a few times, and learned a lot about this particular car.
a few highlights im curious about. Ive seen the 3 receipts for the work he said has been done. They date to summer 2004...and the last mileage clocked on the most recent receipt states the mileage is 60056. And now, the car has 61,652....3 years later? i asked him about it and he said due to lack of funds, the car has not been registered during that time, and only started once a week, let run for 20 minutes, and once a month driven "around town".
everything else about the deal sounds fine. The guy seems nice, and appears honest(taking pictures of the rock chips, and telling me in detail about the front speakers not sounding to good). And it is his name on the receipts. If things go as planned, ill be flying to check out/pick up the car and drive it back to FL, with a few days vacation with my family in ky along the way. He assures me he sees no issue in the car making it that kind of distance. I plan to test drive and hook up a boost gauge during the drive. Ive read extensivly a lot about the FD for the past few years, and i plan to print out some of the "buying an rx7" guides, lol.

how do you guys feel about this particular car? and the info provided? Tips and suggestions please!

that's what i thought about the previous owner of my fd. when i bought it, he seemed like the nicest guy in the world. told me exactly what i wanted to hear...the car had only 30k miles on it...what could be wrong with a 13 year old car that was babied?


then after i get the car (had it shipped) i realize that he auto-x'ed the **** out of it! had to rebuild my turbos after having the car for less than 1000 miles... grrrrrrrr

eh, over all though i did get a good deal. i just hate when previous owners jazz up their descriptions just so they can sell the car. i guess thats just life though.

I'd run a carfax on that VIN and ask him more of how he used the car.

$15k seems really low for a 95 of any kind..

i carfaxed that car a while ago. it seems pretty good for the most part, but apparently there is some kind of odometer **** up.

I had a similar experience. THe lesson here is buyer beware.

I had the carfax done. It looks like a clerical error for sure. The car had 50000, two months later during an inspection someone wrote 153000.....it failed the inspection......10 days later it passed and the odometer was recorded a little over 53000.

well. i just heard back from the guy. and im putting a deposit on it! any last words of wisdom for the test drive/ drive home, over 15 hours!

Where in florida are you? My car seemed great after i bought it, that only lasted like 3 weeks.

Im in St augustine. i have an aunt that lives in tampa. only 3 weeks huh, well that sucks! i hipe mine last longer than that.....heck i hope it makes it home! lol. I called the dealership and had them pull their records....they confirmed the receipts are all real and the work was performed, so in theory this car has a "new" motor.

i would suggest checking all the basic things about the car from the fluid levels to the headlights from the ground up. i recommend not only takin the buyer's guide but some of the FAQs along with you to study before you see the car. people can make a piece of junk sound like an immaculate car so be ready for anything. also remember its an old car nonetheless and expect to make repairs on it so always have a good chunk of change handy should you decide to buy it. i also recommend coming into contact with a rotary engine shop/mechanic who knows whats up as soon as possible.

To do away with any doubt about the "new engine" pick up a compression tester and test the engine your self. Its not that hard to hook up. There is a bunch of threads on here about how to do that with a piston compression tester (i use one).

+1, its unwise to go only on Carfax and what the owner tells you.

well im not going on just the owners word. I called the dealer that did the work. They confirmed everything on his receipts, had been done. Im planning to fly to st louis. i wonder if a compression tester would look funny on the xray machines? i dont wanna have any cavity searches! lol
