Would this FD be a decent deal?
No pictures yet, but let me describe a car I am contemplating buying...
This FD has a very straight body, no dents at all...but it needs paint. Basically it is in several shades of primer right now. The interior lacks a few miscellaneous pieces of trim and the seats could use new covers. It's not horrible or gross to look at though. There is no engine or transmission.
I am aware of the trials and tribulations of FD ownership. This would be a project car which I could build to my own tastes basically from a clean slate.
The guy wants $3000 for it. What do heartless FDs go for?

Well... here are a few comments...
- Why is it in primer? Bad hit and rebuild?
- No engine or tranny? What about turbos and all the other underhood accesories?
In my opinion, the price is really irrelevant considering it needs that much work. If you have $10-15k to throw at it and you really have time to do that much work to a car, its OK. However, you can buy cars that don't need so much work for a decent price as well and actually drive them within the first two years of ownership...

Call me gramps!
Unless you're going to do all the labor yourself, I would reccomend against it. With a decent paint job, tranny, motor, it'll add up. You might as well save yourself the headache and buy one that is running.

Well here are a couple things in my favor on this deal:
My buddy is a painter in a huge body shop for tractor trailer trucks and he can paint the car for a few hundred dollars and do a good job if I just help him wrench on one of his own projects for a while (we've done deals like this before...he's painting my MX-6 now for $250) I also know where to get a FD transmission which needs a synchronizer or two but only has 60k on it for $75. It was left at a Mazda dealership by a customer when the dealership put a new trans in his car. It was disassebled by a Mazda tech out of curiosity and the parts have been cleaned and are organized. That leaves me with interior geegaws and a motor to find.
