Worried about my Fuel Pulsation Dampner

I don't know if I'm just hallucinating...but I seem to be smelling a very faint smell of fuel from the engine...It is not very strong, and it doesn't smoke or anything...but I do kind of smell a fuel like odor. If my FPD went bad, would the smell be incredibly bad? Could it also be my pre cat stinking?

the pulsation damper is a gradual leak. it first will look like a stain and then progress to where mightyslashes car is, a river. you need to look at it before it becomes a problem

I had my damper replaced by a specialist while my turbos came off. He could smell fuel but I thought it was just bc it was running rich at cold startup. So, it's probably a very small leak if anything. If you can definitely smell gas, get it fixed ASAP. If not, you may get by but keep sniffing around the car once in a while.

MY FPD went out about 1 week ago. I could smell a very STRONG fuel odor at startup both outside of the car and in the cockpit. I took it in and they found the leak. It cost me about $150 for both the part and installation. usually the part is around $120 but my mechanic hooked me up pretty good. Take it ASAP, a fuel leak is a giant risk for engine fire.

79,245 miles untill my FPD went bye bye. Guys, if you smell fuel dont think it is just running rich. That MAY be the case, but always just check it out first. If you dont know what to look for just take it to your mechanic. Would you rather spend a measley $150-$175 on part or risk paying $$$ for a rebuild and ruining the value on your FD?

$150 for parts and labor for a fuel pulsation damper? That's barely the cost of the part. It's 2-3 hr of labor at least. You have to pull the UIM, primary injectors to get to the damper. I think it's close to the passenger side of the UIM, if I am not mistaken.

I had my UIM removed for some other repair and it still cost me $250 for parts and labor.

I've heard that to do it alone, it's anywhere $350-450.

Unless you have a good friend to hook you up, $150 for part & labor is WAY too low. I bought mine from Mazdaformance for around $100 (they sell for 25% less than dealers), and like djantlive said, its AT LEAST a 2-3 hour job for a skilled person.

It was around that price. I'm not sure because I had other work done (oil metering lines needed replacement), so it's sort of a guess.
