Windshield wiper blade replacement

yes yes yes , lets face it its not rocket science LOL

When I got my car last year got it running , I put in new wiper blade, the rubber itself , because I have the original wiper blade that has the little windblocker thats supposed to deflect bugs from splattering on the driver side .

first question is does that really work? HHAHA

ok so my big issue is .. last year I went through 4 diff places and last one had a very old dusty rubber inserts ( which is what I'm looking for ) but it was their last one . my rubber insert broke last weekend so i do not have a wiper right now LOL

went ot the same place and they didnt have one anymore ,

and all the autoparts stores only have the whole blade to replace , not just the rubber insert if I got one of those blades .. I'd lose the little wind blocker

So I'm wondering what you guys do. those who have had the car a bit longer LOL

I'm sure I can find a replacement rubber insert on the web somewhere ,

but is there a certain brand that works better , as the brand that i bought lastyear was to say the least .. Poop .

or is that little wind deflector not even worth the effort . I havent driven the car during bug season across bug territory yet LOL

I got Bosch ones and they are pretty cool. They have holes in their metal section, looks pretty aerodynamic to me

Yeah , but I was hoping to just get an insert instead of the whole blade

I live in miami if I did that I'd never drive my car!

also the whole fact that its a DD doesnt help

I wonder if these would work http://www.ebay.com/itm/new-Genuine-GM-22688086-Windshield-Wiper-Insert-20-Chevy-/170707977496?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27befd0518&vxp=mtr Pictures are fuzzy so I cant see if the clips are there ,

But arent these things supposed to be universal??

Yeah, this is your best bet. I typically buy a couple of these at a time. Trust me, you DON'T want to not have the little wind deflector, it is the ONLY thing that holds the wiper down at high speeds in the rain.

And yeah...I am waiting for the first, "Why do you drive fast in the rain?" comment...

My car is in the garage at all times and the rubber inserts STILL just get brittle with age. I think I've put 4 blades on my car in 13 years...

I spread apart the little claw feet that hold the rubber blades in place so I can use standard width blades that are $3 a pair at the auto parts store and keep the stock assemblies with the deflector.

I like my anti-sail wing. I wish my company car had one. Keeps the blade contacted with the glass at highway speeds. As late as last year I could still get just inserts at the local parts store.

Bump with a
I just found my original blades after I thought they were thrown out years ago. Glad I searched on here for info on refills.

There is an insert for the rear as well if anyone is looking. D040673339U.

I work at a parts store... We still have the inserts, but we hide them in the back. In most cases we will say we dont have them because they are such a hastle to install. Just be convincing enough and a set may appear from the backroom overstock area

I actually work for Bosch in their wiper blade department. Pretty much you get what you pay for. Cheap blades will need to be replaced more often. Expensive blades have nicer rubber and will last longer. The important thing is to clean your window. The little bit of debris get caught on the rubber and start to build up causing streaking.

The correct sizes for the FD are 20" drivers and 20" passenger.

^ Word.

The sun and dust and grit and bird crap and sap and everything else take a heavy toll on that thin piece of rubber, real or synthetic.

I change the blades out on my cars every few months...like others haves said...they are cheap (even the "expensive" ones) enough that you shouldn't ever compromise.

Not the stock blade, but I have used Valeo blades (I get them from Tirerack) for years. They last a few seasons and actually have a built-in wind deflector that helps ensure proper contact.
