I will be getting a replacement windshield installed in the coming weeks. I want to order the OEM rubber trim from Mazda. However, when looking over there parts diagrams, there seem to be other bits that are needed. I've searched the forum, and I've not run into a definitive parts list of what all is needed, if any, aside from the rubber trim. Can anyone who has gone through this before chime in?

when i got mine done the installer purchased all what was necessary.

 

I bought all that Mazda stuff you are referring too (trim, rubber, clips, spacers, etc) and the windshield place used the generic stuff anyways because that is what was already on the car and switching back would cause problems (the generic trim is wider and covers/damages more paint).

Your car looks like it has been repainted- are you sure you have the Mazda stuff.

Let me know if you want me to send you the box of Mazda stuff that the windshield place will not use anyways.

 

The red car in my profile picture has been repainted, but the body shop did not remove the glass. Rather, they just pulled the OEM rubber.

In any case, I would be interested in the box of Mazda stuff you have for a windshield replacement. I will send you a PM.

 

No need to buy anything. I just had my windshield replaced by SafeLite. They provided the trim molding and it looks great. They also matched the windshield to my VIN - I have grey tint on the top.

Total cost - $203. The technician was fantastic. Highly recommend you use them and then let them take care of it. One of the best "mods" available.

 

Your post on this convinced me to do the same. However, I *did* end up buying a windshield trim from Ray a while ago. Not sure what I'm going to do with it now. I'll offer it to the installers and see what they say.

I'm also tempted to do the rear glass... a little more than the front buuuuuuut...

 

Matt, you can't go wrong and it will make a big difference. You could see if the installers will use the stock trim but they may be leery of warrantying the work. Either way, it will look great. I posted up some pics in my build thread so check it out.

Interesting on the rear glass. See what they quote you and ensure that includes the defroster in the glass.

 

I believe it was $678 for both glass. $178 for the grey windshield and they had a match grey rear glass with defrost.

^ That's not bad. Would be a good thing to do if the back is messed up. With the money we spend on stupid car stuff, replacing the glass is one good thing to do.

 

I know. My car is wrapping up paint, and the glass is out, so it doesn't make sense not too.

 

^ Go for it! If you plan on having the windows and back glass tinted, then I highly recommend you put a light tint on the front windshield as well. Had that done a few years ago after the window tinter talked me into it. Said he'd remove it and not charge me for it if I didn't like it. Turned out to love it. Keeps the glare out and the temps down and looks awesome. Was worried about night vision but no problems there.

Just had it redone on the new front glass. Cost around $80.

Ya know. I considered it, but I'm not traditionally a fan of tints. What % in the windshield?

 

I think the tinter said it was a 50. Don't know if that is % or something else. You can barely tell it's tinted when looking from the inside out but I do know it is not the lowest level tint.

 

It's 55%. Just checked the receipt.

 

I believe that means it allows 55% of the light through.

No idea. But it's lighter than the number would suggest. If you do tint the window, it's the one I would recommend.
