Windshield replacement

My windshield has a >10in crack and I need it replaced. However I found that the glass repair places that everyone refer you to cannot supply a windshield in the original grey tint (they only have blue available).

Does anyone know of a place in the MD/VA/DC area where I can get the original windshield replaced and get some warranty on the work? The dealers I've talked to so far all refer me to glass repair shops...

Any input appreciated,
Mike P.

When I had my 93 VR Base repainted last year, I had new gaskets installed, as the rubber was drying out from the Florida Sun.....If your replacing your windshield, you might consider replacing the rubber gasket as well. It's a good insurance policy.

I live basically in SE PA, relatively close to your location. I have the exact same problem. It started under the driver side wiper when a rock hit it on the highway, went up about 3 inches, now is working itself to the passenger side around 15 inches. I found someone with a used windshield, but it had the blue tint at the top, and mine has the black/grey. So if you ever do find somewhere, please let me know.

Ok. I've recently been through this whole dilemma. The only way to get the gray windsheild is to go with a factory one. You have to go through a dealer to get it. Some say they can't get it. I got mine at Russel Mazda in Catonsville MD. It will cost a fortune compared to a replacement(575), but I couldn't go with a blue cheapie on a black car. The other big problem is it took a month for my windshield to come in (there were none in the entire country, so they either had to manufacture it or ship it from japan or something). So if you must have the stock gray be prepared to pay through the roof and wait. Keep in mind that the price is uninstalled and it will be another 100 to have it put in. I have heard that russel mazda has a mail order policy where you get 10% or somethig off if you are out of state and order from them. I don't know if this is somethihng that you would want to have shipped to you. I guess it's worth a call if you're out of state. I wished I had had a friend in PA order it :-)

This may seem stupid, and I may be misunderstanding the dilema here, but why not just get a $15 6" strip on black tint across the windshield?
