window motor bad?

Has anyone had one of their power window motors go bad? It seems that my passenger side one is. At first I thought for sure it was a loose connection, it started after I removed an ancient radar detector that had been installed in the car I recently bought. I had to move things around where the Power FC is located.

The window wouldn't go up or down but if I'd hold the switch either up or down it was putting any electrical drain on the car, you know how it slows down the speed of the windows going up if you do both windows at one time rather than one at a time. It doesn't do this, so it seems that the motor isn't getting power. Well when I pulled off the door panel and tested everything out I found that the last connection before the motor has power when the switch is used, and that the power goes through the connection (I tested this by poking through the insulation of the wire after this last connection). So there either has to be a broken wire or bad motor right?

But it's like when people get in and out of the door it rattles something around and it will work again, and at FULL POWER. Then if I leave the door alone it will continue in that state, until someone gets in the passenger side or the door gets jiggled around.

Does this seem odd to anyone else? I'm going to have to take the thing out I guess and check that there are no breaks in the wire. But if it is the motor do I have to go new or have some of you had them rebuilt?

Sorry for the long post, thanks for any help/comments/suggestions.

it does not put a "drain" on the car because the motor may be open. the connectors could also be loose but i assume you eliminated this possibility. you can take the motor apart and clen the brushes with some alcohol

ok so the motor is user servicable? my father seems to think the brushes are somehow bad, and that's why soemtimes it works and other times it doesn't, it almost has to be a wear related failure since nothing in there has ever been replaced, unless they did an incredible job hiding any evidence.

just check the plug to the switch, as far as I know when I was changing out my mirrors, the window wont work if the window switch on the passenger side is not connected properly, try checking that first and see what happens

Lots of times the shock of the door closing will jar the contacts in a power window motor and get it back working again. I often can hold the switch on and slap the door panel with my open hand and get a skewed motor to come back to life. A skewed motor can draw current but its not normally enough to load down the alternator. If it does surely it will make some slight noise which may be herd in quiet surroundings.

I pulled it all apart today, and cleaned the brushes then tried reassembling. Fun with a capital F. I was going to do a write up when I thought it had fixed the problem, but it stopped working again. all that work for nothing.

anyone have to purchase one in the past? price? part number?
