wind whistles over sideview mirror

All,

Has anyone experienced a high-pitched whisting sound coming from the sideview mirror at speeds above 45MPH? My 94 R2 has this problem. When I stick my hand out over the mirror the sound goes away. You can only hear it when the window is open. I try not to nitpick, but the sound is really annoying and makes driving with the window down a pain. I realize that many modern cars (e.g., E46 M3) have disruptors to reduce this kind of noise, but has anyone else seen this kind of problem? If so, how do you fix it? I don't want to tack little turbulence pods to the top of the mirror...

Thanks in advance,

-ch

I'm not much help, but I never noticed this.. I'm a non-A/C guy, so when I do drive my car, I typically have my windows down.

An easy cure is to use a strip of the "stone guard" clear laminate (normally applied to the fronts of cars to keep the paint from chipping) to cover the gap between the mirror and the base. It's clear, so it's not easily visible when applied, and since you'll almost never need to turn your mirrors in, there shouldn't be any need to remove it.
